fundraise to expand their facilities. Find out what the club has to offer you and yourlittle one’s on page 14. Our article on page 17 provides an overview of some of thesports available to babies, toddlers and pre-school children with page 19 homing inon the benefits of swimming from a young age and page 24 bringing you news of anew martial arts centre and what it can offer your tots. Even our pregnancy articlefocuses on being active looking at exercise while pregnant.

And of course, we have thrown in a couple of competitions where you can winfamily tickets for days out at Sacrewell Farm and Nene Valley Railway.

Without further ado, get a well needed cuppa, sit back and enjoy this issueof Jolly Tots.

By the time you read this hopefully the dark mornings and evenings will be behind us as we emerge fromhibernation with a bounce in our step as spring reaches the air!

I love all the new life that spring brings and find it a great time to get out to enjoy the great outdoors and getactive. Getting active is the key theme that runs through this issue of Jolly Tots. I, like many others, was totallyinspired by the incredible achievements that occurred in the awesome Summer that was London 2012 when wehosted the Olympics and Paralympics. The games brought us many things, they put a smile on our faces, theymade us proud to be British, they made us look at disability in a whole new light and they produced a wealth ofnew celebrities - not famous for appearing on reality tv but for their sheer determination and hard work that gotthem to the medal podium - famous for all the right reasons. The games hopefully achieved what they set out todo and inspired a generation! I therefore thought it apt to dedicate this issue to try and inspire our young onesinto sports and exercise from an early age.

We kick off with an interview with the much loved Louis Smith, a local lad who done good - very very good! Louisvery kindly took time out of his Strictly tour to answer some questions for us. We also thought it apt to supportwhat Louis Smith refers to as his second home, our local Huntingdon Gymnastics Club, in their efforts to

For the past few months Gregory has beenchallenging members of the public to keep astraight face in his presence. A small amount ofthe time he plans his acts of merry-making butgenerally, Gregory's wit presents itself innocentlyat the most unexpected of times through hisinquisitive mind.Recently, we were on a busy train and had takena seat next to a man reading a book. As Gregorysat on my lap peeling a banana, from nowhere heloudly piped up, 'Mummy, do badgers eatbananas?'Somewhat puzzled, I explained to him that theyprobably don't as bananas don't grow in the samekinds of places that badgers live in.He considered this reasoning for a while and thensaid, 'What if I find a badger and take a banana tohim; will he eat it then?'While I tried to think of a sensible answer to hisquestion, the man beside us and several otherpassengers had tuned in and started to giggle.'I'm not sure,' I replied, conscious that I now hada bunch of people potentially waiting for aninformed response, 'he might do but sometimesanimals can't eat certain foods as they might geta tummy ache.'Happily Gregory quickly thought of a solution tothis problem, 'Well when we get a tummy ache,we go and try for a big poo don't we Mummy?'By this time the previously silent carriage haderupted into fits of giggles and I was leftspeechless. Happily, my awkward moment wasbroken when a man began to sidle past us downthe isle.Mummy,' Gregory began, 'why has that man gotno hair? Is it because he's a baldy?'. Well that wasone way to change the subject...

These days Louis Smith needs nointroduction. Born and bred inEye, Peterborough, Louis took upgymnastics at an early age andspent many gruelling hourstraining at Huntingdon Gym Club(HGC).

With three Olympic medals to hisname, Louis secured the title ofBritain’s greatest ever gymnastafter his flawless performances atthe incredible 2012 Olympics.

It seemed that overnight Louisbecame a big hit with the nation-particularly the ladies and hasmore recently shot to fame forwinning Strictly Come Dancing.

Louis is our local boy done goodand is a great role model for ourchildren.

Louis very kindly took time out ofhis Strictly tour to answer somequestions.

How old were you when youstarted in gymnastics?I was about four when I firststarted gymnastics.

At what age did your coachrecognise that you hadexceptional ability and couldbe an Olympian?I was always quite naughty at gymand it wasn't until I was 14 andwon the European Championshipsthat my coach realised I had thepotential to do a lot more.

What would you say thebenefits of starting gymnasticsat an early age are?Well, gymnastics has kept me fit, healthy, and given me thediscipline and organisation to beable to do the things I do now.

Have there been times whenyou wanted to quit?Yes! I think it's quite normal to

have doubts and bad days butgenerally I have always had adream to be the best I could beand this has kept me going.

What has helped you stayfocused and determined tosucceed?A lot of reggae, friends, family, having goals and a group oftraining partners that push me tobe the best.

You have referred to HGC as‘so much more than a facility’and have called it ‘a family andcommunity’, how importantwere these aspects in keepingyou focused?I have spent thousands of hoursat the Huntingdon Gym and lovethe community of people that I cancall my friends and family; mysupport network. It is so good tobe able to train with all ages andabilities, to have them follow yourcareer and be a big part of theprogress you make.

What would your advice be toparents of pre school childrenlooking to get their little onesactive?Go visit a gym like Huntingdon andhave fun flipping and flying in asafe environment. Many greatgymnasts started out in thesekinds of classes and I think thatgymnastics is the best sport to useas a base for all other sports.

Having being diagnosed withADHD from an early age andbeing on Ritalin, do you haveany tips for parents withchildren with ADHD?Do something active! I had alow attention span and got boredeasily but gymnastics kept meinterested and was the perfectway to channel my limitlessenergy.

We understand you wereoffered a choral scholarshipbut turned it down forgymnastics. How hard wasthis decision at the time anddid you ever regret it?It wasn't a difficult decision atthe time. I was good at singingbut I loved gymnastics and Icould still keep singing in theshower! After three Olympicmedals I have no regrets andwho knows, I can always goback to singing...

How were you able tobalance your school work, time with friends andtraining at the gym? With difficulty. Gymnastics is amassive commitment involving30 hours per week of training.School work was often done inthe 40 minute daily car journeysto the gym, and a social lifeoutside of gym always tooksecond place.

Who was your role modelgrowing up?I’d have to say my mum.

How are you coping with allthe publicity and media sinceyou've become a nationalhero - not to mention all thescreaming girls? It’s not really a chore! I’m doingmy best and enjoying everyminute. I’m not a national hero;most of them are in Afghanistan.I’m just a guy who swings hislegs round a horse and dances abit......

We hear you are having ahouse built with a secretroom - what are youintending to have in thisroom? It’s a secret.....

Will we be seeing you backat Huntingdon Gym?Definitely. I miss the gym butlife is too crazy at the moment. After the strictly tour I hope tobe able to get a bit of mygymnastic fitness back and sayhi to some friends.

As well as a fashion line, setting up a gymnasticleague and completing yourhouse, what else will you befilling your time with thisyear?I’ll be enjoying my new houseand working on a number of newprojects that we've got in thepipeline. So watch this space!

Thank you Louis x

Embrace the subject or dread it; potty training is something we’ve all been throughas children at different ages (although happily we are unlikely to remember it.)Prior to disposable nappies I’m sure that we were trained as soon as possible forpractical reasons but it would have been unlikely that this was done much beforethe age of two years (despite what our mother has told us) simply becausechildren are not ready emotionally or physically to cope with potty training before18 months. Girls are generally ready sooner than boys. I do not profess to be anexpert; all I can do here is to share my experiences of my own children andobservations in the nurseries.

Personally I’ve never wanted to potty train my children ahead of when they areready, purely because this does minimise the number of accidents the child islikely to have. That said, our time potentially spent mopping and washing isreduced and from the child’s point of view, less puddles means less chance ofknocking their self-esteem and confidence. Talking of which, when potty trainingis underway, sticker charts and rewards work wonderfully well, in conjunction withregular trips to the potty and toilet-training friendly clothing – no dungarees withjumpers over the top!

Probably my best tip follows the experience of my ownchildren. My eldest son showed absolutely no interest inusing the potty. The weekend he turned three I asked himto start using the potty, which he did with no ado and justa couple of accidents thereafter. My daughter wanted topotty train at around two and a half years old, simply sothat she could wear pretty knickers which she did after afew months of a few puddles. However, my youngest sonshowed all the signs of staying in nappies, I believebecause he could eventually wear his school uniform overthem. At three and a half he decided to discard thenappies, both day and night and has never had anaccident in the five months that has passed since then.So from three children, there were three very differentresponses to potty training at different ages.

Thus my advice here is to try not to compare your toddlerwith their friends or siblings. Your child will potty train intheir own good time as and when they are ready to do so.

Gurjit Singh from Paston, Peterborough asks:

What age do you recommend I start to pottytrain my son and do you have any helpful tips?

A Spotlight on:Huntingdon Gymnastics Club

Many people local to Huntingdonmay know the gym as a greatchildren’s party venue and haveperhaps been there for a party ortwo. However, the summer of 2012was a defining year for the clubwhen it shot into the limelight duringthe Olympics and became widerrecognised for its excellence inproducing world class gymnasts suchas our local born Olympian LouisSmith (see interview on page 8). Ithink most will agree that this clubtogether with Louis Smith has reallygiven us locals something to beproud about.

I popped along to visit the gym andspoke to head coach, Paul Hall, about gymnastics and to find outwhat is on offer for babies, toddlersand pre-schoolers but also to findout if things have changed at theclub since receiving worldwiderecognition at the Olympics and tofind out their future plans.

Paul explained how you don’t needto be the next budding Olympian toenjoy the benefits of gymnastics and

HGC has always been accessible toeveryone from babies to adults anddisability groups.

He went on to say that everyone canbenefit from gymnastics and it is agreat introduction to physical activitystating:

‘Gymnastics is afoundation sport that

underpins all other sportsand children who start offin gymnastics will find itmuch easier to move into

other sports such asnetball and football’.

Gymnastics can teach a child selfdiscipline, self control and basicinteraction while they are havingfun. It is also obviously great forflexibility and co-ordination. Paul alsoreferred to research that shows if achild is introduced to exercise froman early age they are more likely tocarry on with exercise throughouttheir life

Get Your Pre-schooler on theRight Track

Babies ProgrammeThey start them young at the cluband have structured andunstructured sessions for differentage groups. I was surprised to hearthat the youngest age is eight weeksthat can attend their Baby Sessionson a Friday morning. The sessionsconcentrate on a basic introductionto movement and they focus onutilising motor skills relevant to thebaby’s age. It also covers babymassage and yoga. Paul stresseshow parents really enjoy theseclasses as they make great bondingsessions between parent and baby.

Toddler and Pre-school ProgrammeOnce your baby graduates to being atoddler and is walking, they offerstructured and unstructured sessionsfor up to five years. The structuredsessions are coach led and themedeach week, for example they may bebased on a trip to the moon or avisit to the farm and here your childwill be introduced to some of theequipment such as the trampoline. This class serves as a springboard tothe afterschool gym programme theyoffer to school age children.

They also offer unstructuredsessions for toddlers to five yearswhere your child can let off steamand run around and play in a safeenvironment.

It’s Not Just for ChildrenIf like me you think you have to startyoung to start gymnastics then thinkagain as they also run adult sessionswhich welcome beginners with one

For more than 35 years our local HuntingdonGymnastics Club (HGC) has provided opportunities forthousands of people to stay healthy, to enjoy sport, tomeet new people and to achieve excellence. By Chrissy Brown

man starting recently at the age of50.

If however you are happy to leavethe gymnastics to the children, they have a cafe where you canrelax while your child is at theirclass.

Have Things Changed Sincethe Olympics? We then went on to speak aboutthe impact the Olympics has hadon the gym. Paul said therecognition and publicity that theOlympics brought had a massiveimpact on the club and has alsoput Huntingdon on the map for apositive reason. As a result of thepublicity, they have had a big influxin the number of people going tothe gym and joining theirgymnastic programmes and aremore than ever desperate toexpand their facilities to cope withdemand.

Expansion PlansIn order to achieve their expansionplans of a new building in theadjacent field they have embarkedon a massive fundraising mission toraise 100K. Other monies for thebuilding works will come fromvarious grants. Paul spoke of thegreat response they have alreadyreceived from some localbusinesses and the local paper, TheHunts Post, who have really gotbehind them to provide supportand publicise their campaign. However, they have only reached atenth of their 100K target. WhilePaul is very grateful for all the helpand support so far received, he

stressed they are desperately inneed of a lot more financial help asthere is still a long way to go. Ifyou would like to donate you canby texting BEAM99 £(and theamount) to 70070 or visiting –www.localgiving.com/charity/huntingdongymclub, or perhaps youwould like to support one of theiryoung hopefuls Harry O’Driscoll, age 12, who trains at the gym andis so passionate about raising thefunds that he has vowed to sleep inhis tent until the funds are raised.Harry is now over five months intothis challenge and still going strongdespite the harsh winterconditions. To read more and tofind out how you can support himsee page 34.

Secret to the SuccessI was also keen to know Paul’ssecret behind Louis’s success.Obviously while hard work,

perseverance and natural talent arekey, he mentioned the importanceof having a winning mentality anda belief that you can win. WhilePaul played down his role, I had astrong suspicion that he, as Louis’scoach, also played a large part inLouis’s success.

Up and Coming HopefulsTo end the interview I was keen tofind out if Paul had any up andcoming future Olympians for Rio2016. He said Daniel Keatings andCameron McKenzie are workingtowards Rio and there are someothers that could potentially makethe cut. He also spoke of a busygirls’ programme which has somepromising talent, so I guess we will‘watch this space’ and hopefullysee more world class talent comingout of our local gym club!

Paul ended by saying:

‘The next Louis Smithcould toddle through the

door at any time’.

If you and your children have beencurled up in your hibernation boxesover the cold winter months, thenyou wouldn't be the only ones! Aswe begin to dust ourselves downand slowly tiptoe into spring, it's agreat time to cast our minds backto the most exciting event of lastsummer, the Olympics.

A key feature of London’s bid andsubsequent planning for theOlympic Games was a commitmentto 'inspire a generation'. Itcertainly did not disappoint aschildren from all over the countryhave found inspiration fromsporting stars who have becomefamous almost overnight off theback of their fantasticachievements.

In and around our area, we arelucky enough to have a great rangeof clubs, classes and leisurefacilities available to us meaningthat children can reap both thephysical and mental benefits ofactive sport; whether they’redeveloping new skills, getting fit orlearning to set themselves goalsand compete against others. Withthat in mind, it's time to get yourlittle ones out there and getinvolved!

If you're a parent of a young baby, you may be wondering how your

tiny tot can benefit and what is onoffer. From a very early age, babiescan enjoy having their sensesstimulated and to begin to socialiseas they start to make sense of theworld around them and they canstart some sports from just a fewweeks old.

SwimmingA fantastic way to start out is withbaby swimming, which they canstart in the first few weeks of theirlives! Why not pop along to yourlocal leisure centre or a speciallytailored swimming class to get yourbaby acquainted with the water?Whatever the age or ability of yourchild, swimming is a potentially lifesaving skill, so it’s a good idea toget them into the water as early aspossible to enjoy a splash about asoften as you can. See page 19 toread more about the benefits oftaking your babies swimming.

GymnasticsGymnastics is another sport whichis beneficial to get involved in early. As your child grows they can joinclasses which are tailored to meetthe needs of their age and ability.

Gymnastics is a great way to buildcore strength, keep fit and healthyand achieve personal goals.Children will have the opportunityto work as a team, building

relationships with and supportingothers. There are a range ofsessions which are designed togive infants a great start, encouraging active play andfocused activities to aide importantdevelopment. There are also babygym clubs locally that start your totfrom just a few weeks old! Contactyour local gymnastics club to seewhat they offer.

CyclingIf the great outdoors is more uptheir street, how about someenergy burning exercise? We allknow that cycling is a really goodlow impact way of keeping fit - butthe other benefits are endless.

Whilst out and about on a bikeride, your child can learn about theworld around them and how to ridesafely building up important roadawareness. Babies can start todevelop co-ordination and grossmotor skills using a ride-on vehicleas soon as they have a sense ofbalance. From there they can learnfurther control and peddling skillson a tricycle until they are ready toadvance to a small bike withstabilisers. There’s very little in life thatcreates a greater shock to awoman’s system than having ababy. Your body and mind willhave gone through the mill; you’llbe pretty tired (and maybe a bitemotional); you might even feel alittle adrift from the world.

So probably the last thing onyour mind is the thought oftaking any form of exercise. After all, isn’t this the time, morethan any other, when you’veearned your right to those threeextra biscuits?

However, for most women, around six weeks after givingbirth is a great time to startthinking about exercising again. Many new mums find sheddingthose post-baby pounds achallenging experience. But ifyou take the plunge soonerrather than later, you’ll find itmuch easier to regain as much ofyour pre-baby physique aspossible. Swimming with yourbaby not only provides a greatworkout for you and yournewborn, but it’s also a magicalbonding experience.

one of the most complete andbeneficial activities, as well asbeing one of the few things youcan do with your baby from birth.

Just half an hour of swimmingwill provide you both with a greatphysical workout - buoyancy andwater resistance mean that you’llboth exercise more muscles, more effectively in water than onland. And all that lifting yourbaby up in the air, swishing themaround and moving through thewater is great for toning thosearms and can burn an impressive300 calories!

Splashing around“The skin-to-skin contact thatswimming with your babyinvolves is one of the best thingsyou can do to bond with yourbaby,” explains Debi Hogston whoruns multi-award winning WaterBabies classes acrossPeterborough and Cambridge,“and being in such a cosy, intimate environment reallyenhances the bonding process. It’s believed that physical contact

reduces stress and boostsfeelings of wellbeing, for parentsand babies alike. Babies lovebeing in water and swimmingfrom birth is entirely natural. After all, they’ve just spent ninemonths in the womb!” It’s a greatidea to start from as early aspossible; not only does swimmingmake babies stronger, butmovement has crucialneurological benefits. The firstyear of life is a time when thebrain grows the most rapidly, with every action stimulating itsgrowth, strengthening nervefibres and making it functionmore efficiently.

Swimming with your baby willintroduce them to a life long loveof staying healthy and fit, whilsthaving a great time too! Whatcould be better?

When choosing a childminder, one of the key decisions to makeis what type of environment youwant your child to be in. Somechildminders try to mirror theroutines of a day nursery, othersprovide a ‘second home’ for thechildren, while ensuring thatthey follow the Early YearsFoundation Stage guidelines.Have you considered achildminder who has their ownchildren at home? If so,remember to take into accounttheir child’s age and howdependant they will be on theirmother, (your childminder!) butalso how their child could begood company for yours.

Do you need full or part- timechildcare or simply someone whois able to carry out the dreadedbefore and after school runs?!Bear in mind, that if thechildminder provides an out ofschool service and your child isnot of school age, they will also

be going on the school runs andwill have older children aroundfor a few hours each day andmore often in the schoolholidays. Most parents view thispositively and believe it is a goodway of your child getting used tochildren of all ages.

I t i s impor tant toknow what your

ch i ld w i l l be do ingdur ing the day .

You should ask what activitiesthey carry out and if they takethe children on any trips, such asto the park or the localswimming pool. This willgenerally depend on how manychildren are in the childminder’scare at any one time.

It is sensible to spend somequality time with the childminderwhile they are working beforemaking any decision, to give youthe opportunity to see how they

work. It is stronglyrecommended that you bookyour child in for a couple ofsettling-in sessions before theirstart date.

Ensure that the childminderprovides parents with anoverview of the day or has adiary system so that you can beinformed of your child’s day andstill feel involved and also makesure you have a copy of theirpolicies and procedures. Most importantly, you must feelcomfortable with yourchildminder and be able to getalong with them - if you don’t,then it won’t work.

When you discover you’repregnant you might feelthis is the one time in yourlife that you can put yourfeet up and relax and forgetabout the gym for a fewmonths! However stayingactive during pregnancywill not only boost yourhealth but is also likely tomake you feel morecomfortable as yourpregnancy progresses.

During the first months you maywell feel more tired and if youare suffering with pregnancysickness you might also lackenergy to exercise. Howeveronce you get past that, manywomen find some exerciseduring pregnancy helps them tokeep fit and healthy andcertainly in the last few weeks, can also help with relievingpregnancy aches and pains andhelp you sleep better.

If you have a more complexpregnancy or if you are unsurewhether exercise will be safe foryou due to particularcircumstances then always havea chat with your midwife first.

If you already exercise regularly

at the gym, through a sports clubor class, always make sure thatyou tell the instructor that youare pregnant (even in the earlystages). Research shows themain negative effect of exercisein pregnancy is that there is thepotential for aerobic exercise(which is strong enough to raiseyour temperature) to havenegative effects on the baby orpregnancy in the same way thata raised temperature frominfection might. To avoid this youmay feel that you will need tomodify your regime. It isrecommended that contactsports are avoided after the firstthree months of pregnancy aswell as horse riding, skating, skiing and cycling, due to therisk of falling.

Even if you have not doneregular exercise before, thismight be a good time to start. There are many specialistpregnancy exercise sessionsavailable – from yoga forpregnancy to classes whichincorporate preparation for birthtogether with exercise. St NeotsLeisure Centre also offerAquanatal sessions, run by amidwife. These exercise

sessions in the pool have theadded benefit that you gain relieffrom the extra weight ofpregnancy by being in the water(and a great taster for thebenefits of using a birthing poolfor pain relief in labour). As wellas the benefits of the exerciseyou may well find such classes agreat way to find friends who arehaving babies at the same timeas you which may proveinvaluable in those first monthsafter your baby is born. Youmight prefer to use one of themany DVDs on the market, demonstrating exercise forpregnancy, or just go for a walka few times a week. Whateveryou choose, remember that youare helping yourself and yourbaby, and it can be a greatchance to get some time toyourself.

Hicks Karate School of Excellence celebrated tenyears of running their full time martial arts school atthe end of 2012. Although Chief Instructor andschool owner Andrew Hicks has been teaching formore than 20 years and training in martial arts formore than 25 years in many different styles includingLau Gar Kung Fu, Sport Karate, Tang So Doo andKickboxing. Sensei Hicks currently holds a 3rd Dan inSports Karate and 3rd Degree in Kickboxing.

Hicks Karate has taught over 1500 students over the pastten years, producing over 40 black belts, 12 worldchampions, 19 European Champions and over 20 BritishChampions. Some who have gone on to become full timeMartial Arts Instructors, Sports Instructors, teachers andnewspaper/children’s TV channels sports nominees. Theyhope over the next ten years to double that.

Hicks Karate has recently moved into their new purposebuilt full time family martial arts centre - The TechnologyCentre, Vicarage Farm Road, Fengate, Peterborough, PE67RH. It is the biggest martial arts school in the areaoffering 30 classes a week from their full time centre aswell still offering classes in multiple locations aroundPeterborough and surrounding areas. With over twohundred full time members as well as teaching in localschools within the Cambridgeshire area. They offer classes:

Pre-school (3 – 5 years old) Little Ninjas ©At our school the Little Ninjas have their own belt systemseparate to our normal curriculum grades and their lastgrade is the first grade in our children’s programme. Thismakes the transition into our children’s beginnersprogramme very easy once they have completed our LittleNinja syllabus. We work on eight major skills when trainingour Little Ninjas. Each class, we will cover one of theseskills with a wide variety of activities that are fun and atthe same time educational. We make learning fun. Martialarts is much more than kicking and punching, it’s being thebest that you can be in everything you do, just like a BlackBelt.

My own daughters have been a huge influence in helpingme realise that martial arts has huge benefits at home, school and in day to day life. They have been Little Ninjassince the age of three. Like me, other parents arerealising the benefits of Martial arts for their children at anearly age and the Little Ninja syllabus has it all. It really isa programme that the children love and that parents lovetoo as they see many external benefits. As an instructor Ihighly recommend implementing a pre-school class intoyour martial arts lesson schedule.

Karate 4 Kids (5 – 12 years old)Our Karate 4 Kids programmes teach the fundamentals ofmartial arts in a fun and friendly environment incorporatingour eight keys: Discipline, Respect, Focus, Self Defence,Confidence, Perseverance, Dedication and Black BeltAttitude. We have had great results in the dojo withoutstanding grading results, on the national circuitproducing British, European and World Champions, outsidethe dojo with improved grades, focus and behaviour. Wecontinuously teach this programme in our martial artsschool and in the after school programmes aroundCambridgeshire’s schools.

Teens Kick (13 – 18 years old)We learned very fast that teenagers need to be taught in acompletely different way and developed our programmefocusing on fitness, self-defence and discipline, motivatingand driving students towards their individual goals.

We incorporate many aspects of our teen class as well assome of the fun and games we teach in our children’s classinto our adults Kickboxing, Ladies Only Kickboxing, FitnessKickboxing as well as circuit training and private tuition. Itall helps to keep martial arts classes new and exciting aswell as keeping students motivated.

SENSEI ANDREW HICKSINFO: If you would like to know moreinformation about any of our programmes andthe way we teach it at Hicks Karate School ofExcellence Peterborough you can contact HicksKarate School of Excellence.

New to St. NeotsMy partner and I came up with the idea to open a babyclothes shop around Christmas time in 2011 and in June2012 Cots 2 Tots was born.

We wanted to do something for ourselves and found thatwith the ever growing population of St Neots and its lackof variety in the way of clothing for babies, there was agreat opportunity to open a baby clothes shop. We haveboth been amazed at the success of the shop and athow well it has taken off and hope that we will continueto grow.

At present the majority of our stock is aimed atnewborns to 23 month olds, however we are slowlyintroducing the next age range which will go up to 4years.

Our new spring/summer range is gradually making itsway into the shop and the stock looks amazing. If youlike what we have in store already then you will love thenew range!

Hopefully over the coming weeks we shall have awebsite where not only can you just browse, you will beable to purchase as well.

Look out for our web address on the shop front. See youin there soon!

Martial ArtsAll of us like to bring out the bestin our children and have themconduct themselves in a respectfuland considerate manner and withthat in mind, there’s a range ofmartial arts that children can takeup from an early age. Martial artsis an ancient method of trainingthe mind, body and spirit to act asan entity to ultimately teach theindividual self defence, competition and physical strengthand fitness. There are a range ofmartial arts for your child to learnand each type practices a differentfocus. It’s worth researching themand calling some local clubs to findout what might suit your child.

FootballMany little ones like to have a kickabout in the park, so why notallow them to transfer their ballskills and take up an active teamsport? Great for confidenceboosting and learning social skills,

football is popular with both boysand girls alike. There are localclasses which take children fromjust 18 months.

DanceWe are fortunate enough to havea wide variety of dance classes inand around our region and there’s

a dance style to suit everyone!

Starting from toddling age, children can undertake classes andworkshops to improve their agility, motor skills, confidence and aboveall enjoy themselves! You can even

find ‘Mother and Toddler’ classesand learn the ropes together.

And for Mums and Tots...If you’ve recently given birth orfind yourself unable to get to thegym due to lack of babysitter, never fear as there are localfitness classes availible whichallow babies and toddlers to joinmummy whilst she gets a goodcardio workout. Look out for funclasses that involve being outdoorsand doing the fitness with yourbuggy or pram.

Take time to let your child find outabout different sports andexperiment within the huge rangeof activities that are available tothem. It will soon becomeapparent what they are good atand what they enjoy doing best. You never know, you might just bethe parent of a budding Olympicathlete!

Help Harry12 year old Harry O’Driscoll who trains at HuntingdonGymnastics Club for 18 hours per week (and a lot more in theschool holidays) is doing his bit to help raise funds for anextension and refurbishment of the existing gym by camping outin a tent until the funds are raised.

Harry started this great feat on the 24th August 2012 and despitethe awful and very bitter weather conditions he has not spent anight inside. Come rain or snow, at bedtime Harry can be foundin his tent in the garden.

He said, “We need to to raise£100,000 as soon as possible...The Club is like a secondhome to me as I spend so muchof my time there. So I am doingmy bit by camping in my tent foras long as possible.” So far the club have raised 10K and Harry has raised over 2K.

Harry would be delighted if you could help his plight by sponsoring him:www.justgiving.com/Harry-O-Driscoll-2012
