Nat’s News!

As we head into the last few days of Term 3 it is daunting to think we are three quarters of the way through 2019. Our

Year 6 students have only one term left in Primary School and our littlest ones will soon be in Grade 1. Next term we will

start transitioning our 2020 Foundation students one day a week and the Year 6 students will be involved in some

transition days to their prospective secondary schools.

Plans are well under way for our classes for 2020. If anyone knows of students who are intending to enrol next year or

are leaving the area we really need to know. Our enrolment numbers will decide if we have 4 or 5 classes.

I hope all of our families have a safe and restful break. I especially wish the Bentley and Phillips families well on their

moves interstate and hope the transition goes as smoothly as possible. We will certainly miss Taj, Harlii, Blair, Ethan and

Liam at Katunga Primary School.

This Friday we encourage students to come dressed in ‘Footy Colours’ as a bit of fun to celebrate the end of term. A

reminder that school will finish at 2.15pm on Friday.

Thanks to the staff, students and school community for an excellent term. The positive team attitude towards learning

makes Katunga PS a special place to be!

Have a great week!

Nat

$20 Boss – please note a change of date for market days

This Semester the Grade 5/6 class has been learning about businesses and becoming entrepreneurs through the $20 boss

program. They have planned their own businesses and with a start-up of $20 each and set about building it. Students are

required to stick within the budget and earn enough to repay the $20 plus a $1 interest. Any profit will be donated to a

charity of the student’s choice.

To help students achieve this we will be running a market in weeks 8, 9 &

10 (05/09, 13/09 & 20/09). The market will be at lunchtime and will be

available to all classes. Students will be able to purchase cakes, drinks,

have their nails painted and participate in games. Items will range in price

from a $1 to $5.

This will be a good opportunity to begin teaching children about being

financially responsible, discussing pocket money, jobs, savings and

managing their money.

Headlice

There has been a reported case of Head Lice in the school. Parents are asked to check their child/children’s heads and in those instances where head lice or eggs are found, treat your child’s hair. We ask for parents to be diligent in the process so as a school we seek control before it becomes a problem. Please thoroughly treat them and then continue to make follow up checks for eggs over a seven to ten day period. It must be noted that one head lice can lay hundreds of eggs. Children with head lice can be re admitted to school after head lice treatment has commenced, there is no need to miss school. We will be conducting Random head lice checks this week. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the school. Head lice are common in school-aged children and are the most adaptable of creatures. Information brochures are available from school or from The Department of Education and Training website. Helpful hints :

- Using a conditioner and comb method regularly is the best way to detect head lice and minimise the problem also

- Tying back hair can help prevent the spread of head lice.

Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER)

Students from our school will soon be undertaking (or have recently undertaken), an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of <<$>> per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
