DEPUTY’S REPORT by Mel Fenton

Wow, what a fantastic week we have had! It all started last Thursday with the Captains and Prefects speeches for 2020. All the students spoke so confidently and really showed the school that they would be outstanding student representatives. Congratulations to all the students who participated in any stage of this process, every one of them can be proud of their efforts. Our K-6 Presentation Day was a wonderful event acknowledging the achievements and hard work of our talented students in a range of academic and extra curricular areas. A special mention must go to our 2019 Captains and Prefects who expertly compered the assembly. Thank you to our hardworking P&C and our Kororo families that attended the Carols by KororoLight on Tuesday. It was a great deal of fun and there was even a special visit from an “Aussie’ Santa. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the students, families and staff for a fantastic Semester 2 at Kororo Public School. It has truly been a privilege to become a part of such a caring and inclusive school community. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday.

Ethics classes at Kororo Public School

Could you be an Ethics Teacher at Kororo Public School in 2020?

In ethics classes, children learn how to think logically, how to disagree respectfully and how to support their arguments with evidence.

Children discuss topics such as:

Fairness

Imagining how others feel

How do we treat living things?

What is laziness?

How do we disagree in a respectful way?

We are always needing volunteers so that ethics classes can be made available for all families who have requested them. Ethics teachers facilitate discussions. A teaching background is not required. Full training is provided by Primary Ethics, the not-for-profit organisation approved to design curriculum and training for the ethics program. Training consists of a two-day workshop and short online modules. Lesson materials are provided.

An ethics teacher training workshop will be held locally in Term One 2020 on 22nd and 23rd February.

Suitable volunteers have an interest in children’s education and the development of thinking skills and must be available on Fridays from 9:15 – 10:45am each week to teach a half hour class at Kororo PS. A small amount of weekly preparation (printing and reading through lesson materials) is also required.

If you are looking for an opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our school, please visit primaryethics.com.au and/or contact Gemma Brooks, Primary Ethics Coordinator for Kororo Public School, 0421 950 928, email: [email protected].
