library.langwarrinparkps.vic.gov.au PREMIERS’ READING CHALLENGE 2018 We have 2 weeks remaining to complete our reading challenge. Keep on reading and we will have the final results following the conclusion. BOOK WEEK WOW, wow, wow! What a tremendous week we have had celebrating Book Week together. With the national theme being: “Find your Treasure”, we spent the week doing just that. We welcomed hundreds of students, teachers and families through our Book Fair in the Library and sold a record number of books. The school will benefit immensely from these generous sales in the form of many more new books and resources to encourage student reading. Thank you to the wonderful parents, as well as Mrs Guest and Mrs Dooley from our Finance Office that all gave up their valuable time to assist. Our whole school Character Dress Up Parade was a sea of colour and celebration as we saw and heard of book inspired poetry, songs, costumes, stories and just simple laughter. Our Foundation students transformed into Fairytale characters and thrilled the crowd with a rap song. There was plenty of evidence of imaginations running wild and we could not be more pleased with the whole school community effort and support. Mrs Agius was catching us all out all week with her spontaneous announcements of D.E.A.R! Everyone had to Drop Everything And Read so books have been at the ready! This morning author royalty visited our lucky Year 4’s and 5’s: Mr Morris Gleitzman. He inspired students about the art of story writing and reminded us all of the important role stories play in all our lives. He taught us that through imagination we can do anything, go any-where and tackle challenges that make us stronger. Mrs Barrett and Mrs Hopper painted a mural to mark his visit which Mr Gleitzman was most humbled by and happily signed with a message to our school. This will be displayed in our Library for many years to come. This afternoon we welcome families back, this time into our classrooms to be a part of ‘Literacy in action’, to conclude the weeks events. Students are looking forward to sharing lots of literacy activities. Please enjoy just some of the many photos we captured this Book Week. A sincere thank you to everyone that made this the success that it has been.

VISUAL ARTS

BOOK WEEK ART As part of our Book Week celebrations each year level has been working with one of this year’s Children’s Book Council Shortlisted books as inspiration for their various art projects. They have worked so hard on these creative pieces which you may have seen at our Parade yesterday and are now on display in the Library for all to enjoy. Our Year 6 students created the amazing Book Week banner pictured below which decorated our stage on Parade day. Mrs Hopper put the wording on our Morris Gleitzman mural and during his visit today we hope he will sign this as a keepsake which will be put up on the Library wall. It has been such a busy yet rewarding few weeks in our Art Rooms.

SRC (Student Representative Council)

BLUE CARPET AREA REJUVENATION The Student Representative Council has been collecting suggestions from the students all year on ways we can make our school even better. We have received lots of suggestions about how we can improve the Blue Carpet Area. The SRC is helping with this but we can’t do this alone, we need your help! We have decided to ask for donations from anyone who is willing to donate any material that can be sewn up to help the students beautify our Blue Carpet area. We can use any material that we can sew or stitch together. Remember, we don’t need any ornaments, just material please. We are grateful for any donations. All donations can be sent to Mrs Barrett in the Art Room. Thank You! Grace R, 5/11 On behalf of the SRC Tea
