Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace YDL-Whittaker, February 3–March 10

Hey, Peanuts fans! Charles Schulz’s classiccomic strips featuring Snoopy as theWorld War I Flying Ace will be on displayin the Community Room at YDL-WhittakerRoad from February 3 through March 10.This exhibition is great for the whole family and includes 40 of Snoopy’s boldestadventures in his transformed doghouse–now a Sopwith Camel airplane. FollowSnoopy on his imaginary adventuresthrough the skies of Europe sparring withhis archenemy, the Red Baron. Join us fora reception on Tuesday, February 8 from7–8 pm to view the exhibit and enjoysome light refreshments.

To celebrate the Snoopy exhibit, we’rehosting a Peanuts Drawing Contest. Usepencil or ink on white paper and turn

What Makes LifeWorth Living: Life is So GoodThe subject for the2011 Community Readsis “What Makes LifeWorth Living.” Thebook selected to illus-trate this theme is LifeIs So Good by GeorgeDawson and Richard Glaubman. In thisremarkable book, 103-year-old GeorgeDawson, a slave’s grandson who learnedto read at age 98, offers valuable lessonson life as well as a fresh, firsthand view ofAmerica during the 20th century.

We are pleased to host a free presentationby Richard Glaubman (Mr. Dawson haspassed away) on Saturday, January 22 at 1:30 pm in Washtenaw CommunityCollege’s Towsley Auditorium. Glaubmanhas appeared on “CBS Sunday Morning,”“Good Morning America,” the DiscoveryHealth Channel, and numerous regionaltelevision and radio stations.

Life Is So Good has been a selection ofboth the Book of the Month Club and the Literary Guild. Book groups at YDL-Whittaker will discuss this book onThursday, 2/3 at 10:30 am, Tuesday, 2/22 at 7 pm, and Monday, 3/14 at 7 pm.
