Spended 5 days experimenting with different edids, driver and tv settings and want to share my results.

After reading this manual you can say goodbye to colorbugs and get nvidia 3d vision interleaved output.

What hardware I used: LG 42LW4500 Passive 3DTV and Nvidia GeForce 9600GT 512Mb.

Software: Windows 7 SP1 with all updates, nvidia drivers tested: 285.62 and 295.73

Investigation.

Colorbug exists when PC sends to LG TV HDMI signal. Disabling extension block in EDID eliminates colorbug and PC sends DVI

signal without extra HDMI information. The bad guy here - LG TV, not Nvidia. LG TV incorrectly receives HDMI signal in all input

modes even in PC mode. When PC input enabled LG TV must disable all image enchancers but it doesn`t do this. The result -

slightly blurred image. When we got one line of pixels, the lines over and under glows too and this causes colorbug. Glasses filters

source line but don`t filter over and under lines!

HDMI mode without glasses: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/828/hdminoglasses.jpg/ - image blurred.

HDMI mode. What you can see through left lens: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/141/hdmileftlens.jpg/ - unwanted

glowing lines being seen for left eye.

HDMI mode. What you can see through right lens: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/59/hdmirightlens.jpg/ - right eye can

see clear image.

DVI mode: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/4/dvinoglasses.jpg/ - image sharp and crisp!

First of all, if you want to fully fix LG colorbug be ready to sacriface audio over hdmi. With colorbug fixed it simply will not work

because nvidia driver must operate in DVI mode.

UPDATE: You CAN get HDMI audio working by connecting extra video output to receiver. Read more here.

Colorbug removal consists of two parts:

First, edid override, that removes extension block, disables audio over hdmi and removes huge amount of colorbug.

Second, LG settings trick, that emulates LG remote 3D button and removes remaining colorbug after overriding edid.

Here is solution sheet.

1) Connect your 3DTV to PC and power on it.

Download and run http://www.entechtaiwan.com/files/moninfo.exe

Find and select your 3DTV in the list at left. You should watch strings with Real-time label only. See attached image for my

example.

Attached my modded LG 42LW4500 3DTV EDID override with Acer ID and removed colorbug for 42LW4500 owners. You can just

install it, apply LG settings trick and got colorbug-free image

Personally, for my TV I needed to set Sharpness to 56 in Game and ISF mode to make LG settings trick work.

P.S. Important note for LG, and, maybe, other brand TV. Don`t forget to set Black level in TV settings to high after EDID fix

(if you disabled extension block)

Big thanks to Mocca/Butmuncher for initial LG colorbug investigation, explanation and fixing!

Shii, thanks for sharing this detailed guide, I'm sure that owners of Passive 3D LCD HDTVs will find this very useful, especially

if they are using their TV set for playing games in stereo 3D mode...

hey shii - first of all - thank you very much for your great and very detailed guide!

I have pretty much the same tv (55lw4500) - i have used your created inf file for the 42lw4500 + lg trick

The picture is miles better, but i find it kinda strange that i have still got some colorbug/ghosting.

My ISF sharpness (vertical/horizontal) is at 60 - of course i have messed around with some settings..but 60 seems the best

for my tv.

What ISF settings have you made - color, sharpness v/h and so on?

Maybe it`s because of the inf file...but i thougt it should be the same..cause only the size differs.

kind regards!

Are nvidia driver recognizes your TV connection as DVI after installing new inf and rebooting? This can be checked in the

Display/Change resolution section of Nvidia control panel (see attachment for example with latest 295.73 nvidia driver). Did

you notice decreased amount of colorbug after installing inf and rebooting with both sharpness - 50? Can you check the same

content in overunder or side-by-side mode to get referense image, as it should be seen without colorbug? Notice, that any

3dtv CAN produce a very small amount of ghosting even in frame-packing colorbug-free mode.

About ISF sharpeness - you only need to tweak vertical sharpness. Horisontal does nothing with colorbug.

My inf should work with any LG Passive 3DTV, i think.

My other settings are:

Game mode:

Backlight - 75

Contrast - 90

Brightness - 55

Sharpness - 56

Colour - 50

Tint - 0

ColourTemp - 0

In advanced settings all off, Gamma - medium, Black level - High, Real Cinema - On, Colour Gamut - Wide

ISF Expert1 mode:

Backlight - 70

Contrast - 98

Brightness - 58

H Sharpness - 50

V Sharpness - 56

Colour - 52

Ok, I should write a little more about fast checking for colorbug.

First, download StereoPhoto Maker and attached image (unzip it).

Select your 3DTV as primary TV, start StereoPhoto Maker and open image guitar hero 3 - 2 - esrb t pegi 12+.jps with it.

Click Stereo/Intarlaced/Row Interlaced, press "J" and enlarge image to full screen (Enter).

Now check image for ghosting - focus on right girls twin tails - it shouldn`t ghost at left and right. Check another parts of

image for ghosting. You can fine-tune your tv settings with this image opened.

My results:

Original LG colorbug without fixes - http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/7023/lgcolorbugnofix.jpg

LG colorbug partially fixed with EDID inf override - http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/7123/lgedidfixonly.jpg

LG colorbug fully fixed with EDID inf override and LG settings trick -

Hi!

I too have a bit of colorbug after installing the inf-file and using the LG settings trick. (v-sharpness=55 in expert1 in HD-DVD)

But i found that i get completely colorbug-free by changing backlight or contrast after using the LG settings trick (e.g. using

LG settings trick, then change backlight from 100 to 99 and back to 100)!

Thanks alot for your work on investigation and attached inf-file! (and butmunch/mocca for his LG settings trick!)

hey shii - thx again for your help

i have done everything according to your guide, but still..theres a fair amount of color ghosting (especially at the girls twin

tails (left and right) - purple ghosting)

I really don`t know..how this is possible..or how i can fix this.

What firmware is on your TV right now? - 04.60.26 or the only-russian version - 04.60.27??

@Vittoria

How`s that possible?? - after you have done the lg trick - you can`t set anything without reseting the picture settings, which

were carried over from the hd-dvd label isf setting.

kind regars

Hmm, maybe it differs form TV-type and/or firmware version. My TV is 55LW659s and firmware is 05.10.05.

What i see is:

In PC mode there is no colorbug but i see the clear white bug.

In all other modes there is no clear white bug but colorbug.

The inf-file enables me to use interleaved 3D mode with nvidia 3dtv play.

The LG settings trick removes the clear white bug, but a bit colorbug is then visible. (v-sharpness gets set correct, but

probably "something else" gets set that introduces a bit colorbug)

After that, changing backlight or contrast in PC mode removes the introduced colorbug. (v-sharpness stays same, the

"something else" gets corrected)

Very strange.

Hugezilla, answer my questions from the post above, please. Did you disable all image enchancements like Edge

Enchancement in Advanced settings? You can also test for ghosting in 1080p60 and 1080p24. In 1080p24 I can change

Sharpness even with PC mode enabled on TV.

I`m using 04.60.27 firmware.

Also I must agree with vittorio - maybe colorbug differs form TV-type and/or firmware version.

When I tested LG settings only V Sharpness resolved colorbug problem. Backlight, Contrast, Brightness and other didn`t

change anything.

@Shii

jap, the tv is recognized as DVI Monitor plus i have applied your settings...and as I said..there is still some colorbug.

I`m running at 04.60.26 firmware, cause xxxx27 is only for russia avaiable - should i consider appliying xxxxx27???

@vittorio

Interleaved mode is only avaiable at PC-input mode, as far as i know..cause when i swith to HD-DVD example...the 3d picture

looks messed up.
