Security informa-tion

Siemens provides products and solutions with industrial security functions that support the secure operation of plants, systems, machines and networks. In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is necessary to implement – and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security concept. Siemens’ products and solutions only form one element of such a concept. Customer is responsible to prevent unauthorized access to its plants, systems, machines and networks. Systems, machines and components should only be connected to the enterprise network or the internet if and to the extent necessary and with appropriate security measures (e.g. use of firewalls and network segmentation) in place. Additionally, Siemens’ guidance on appropriate security measures should be taken into account. For more information about industrial security, please visit http://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.

Siemens’ products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure. Siemens strongly recommends to apply product updates as soon as available and to always use the latest product versions. Use of product versions that are no longer supported, and failure to apply latest updates may increase customer’s exposure to cyber threats. To stay informed about product updates, subscribe to the Siemens Industrial Security RSS Feed under http://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.

1 Library Overview

1.1 Fundamentals about PLC data types

PLC data types are user-defined data structures which can be used several times in the program. The structure of a PLC data type is made up of several elements of different data types.

There are the following possibilities of using PLC data types:

As data types for tags in a tag declaration of code blocks or in data blocks.

As templates for creating global data blocks with the same data structure.

In S7-1200 and S7-1500 as template for creating structured PLC tags.

1.2 Address space (control and feedback interface)

Modules occupy different addresses in the process image of the inputs and outputs, depending on their configuration. Depending on the mode of operation (e.g. Counting), the process image of the inputs can be defined as control interface, while the process image of the outputs can be defined as feedback interface. The structure of the address spaces (control and feedback interface) is described in the modules’ respective technical manuals.

The library LPD (library of PLC data types) provides these control and feedback interfaces in the form of individual PLC data types. With the PLC data types, you can create PLC tags and via them structurally and symbolically access the input and output area in the user program.

1.3 Parameter data records

With the TIA portal, you parameterize the modules in your project. In doing so, you define the modules’ properties via various parameters. You then load the configuration to the controller.

With the optional parameterization in the user program, you can transfer the parameters via data records to the module in the operating mode RUN. The structure of the parameter data records is described in the modules’ respective technical manuals.

The library LPD (library of PLC data types) provides the structure of the parameter data records in the form of individual PLC data types. With the PLC data types, you can create tags in the data blocks and then generate data records that can be transferred to the modules via the WRREC instruction.

With the RDREC instruction, the data records can be read.

3 Using PLC data types with DI 16x24VDC HF as an example

3.1 Address space (control and feedback interface)

In the operating mode Counting, channel 0 and channel 1 are used for counting. To control the Counting function directly via the control and feedback interface, you need to do the following:

Create a PLC tag of the "LPD_typeDI16HFCountControl" type and assign the start address to the module outputs.

Create a PLC tag of the "LPD_typeDI16HFCountFeedback" type and assign the start address to the module inputs.

Figure 3-1: I/O addresses of the DI 16x24VDC HF module

Figure 3-2: PLC tags with the addresses of the DI 16x24VDC HF module

With the PLC data types, you can now structurally and symbolically access the input and output area in the user program.

3.2 Parameter data records

From module firmware version V2.1.0 or higher, you can use the channels 0 and 1 in the operating mode "Counting” or "DI”. All other channels are usable as default inputs (DI).

This example describes how to parameterize the first channel of the DI module as counter.

For this, create a parameter data record of the PLC data type "LPD_typeDI16HFDataRecCount" in a data block. In the PLC data type, the required structure of the data record is defined.

Enter the desired parameter values into the column "Start value”. The values in byte 0 and byte 1 are fixed and must not be altered. A description of the parameters can be found in the technical manual.

Figure 3-4: Parameter data record for channel in operating mode "Counting”

The parameter data record is transferred to the module via the WRREC instruction. The data record number depends on the module and channel.

Figure 5-6: Parameter data record 0 to module DI 16x24VDC HF

The following applies for the module DI 16x24VDC HF:

Configuration 1 X 16-channel: Data record 0 for channel 0, data record 1 for channel 1 ... Data record 15 for channel 15

Configuration 2 X 8-channel: Data record 0 to 7 for channel 0 to 7 (submodule 1) Data record 0 to 7 for channel 8 to 15 (submodule 2)

For channel 0 and channel 1, the data record can be chosen for operating mode Counting or operating mode DI

For the channels 2 to 15, the data record can be used only for the operating mode DI

Using the supported PROFIdrive telegrams in the data block

If you create a technology object (TO) for an axis, you can select "data block” under data connection. In the selected data block, a tag of the "PD_TELx” type must be defined. "x” stands for the telegram number.

To create a data block for the data connection, proceed as follows:

1. Create a new data block of the "Global-DB” type.

2. Mark the data block in the project navigation and select the context menu command "Properties”

3. Under attributs, deactivate the following attributes and confirm the change with OK

– "Only store in load memory”

– "Data block in device write-protected”

– "Optimized block access”

4. Open the data block in the block editor.

5. In the block editor, add a tag and under "Data type”, Enter "PD_TEL5”, for example, for the standard telegram.

Figure 4-4: PROFIdrive telegram in the data block

Using the supported PROFIdrive telegrams in the tag table

With the PLC data types of the supported PROFIdrive telegrams, you can create PLC tags in the tag table and via them structurally and symbolically access the input and output area in the user program.

To create PLC tags for the input and output area, proceed as follows:

1. In the tag table, add a tag and under "Data type”, Enter "PD_TEL5_IN”, for example, for the input area of the standard telegram 5.

2. Under "Address”, enter the configured start address of the input area of the standard telegram or drive. The addresses can be found in the properties of the standard telegram (see Figure 4-5) or in the properties of the drive (see Figure 4-6).

3. In the tag table, add a tag and under "Data type”, Enter "PD_TEL5_OUT”, for example, for the output area of the standard telegram 5.

4. Under "Address”, enter the configured start address of the output area of the standard telegram or drive. The addresses can be found in the properties of the standard telegram (see Figure 4-5) or in the properties of the drive (see Figure 4-6).

Figure 4-5: PLC tags for PROFIdrive telegram 5

Note You can use the data type, e.g. "PD_TEL5_IN" in the tag table, only if the data type exists in the project navigation under "PLC data type”. For this, you previously need to use the data type in a data block.

During the compilation, the data types not used in the project navigation under "PLC data types” are deleted.
