IN ONE WORD, what does theManhattan Area Chamber ofCommerce mean to you?
Attending an event, seminar orcommittee meeting with theManhattan Chamber in 2014?You may be next to share whatthe Manhattan Area Chamber ofCommerce means to you.
What would your one word be?
When asked “What do you feel is themost important benefit you receive frombeing a Chamber member?” our members responded…
• The opportunity to visit with members of the community about the opportunities to improve the quality of life.
• Being a member gives me networking possibilities I might not otherwise have.
• The educational opportunities offered by your seminars.• Networking.• The information that keeps us abreast of what is happening
in the community and resources.• Referrals.• Representation on politics that effect business.• Information.• Community knowledge flow of information.• Advocacy by the Chamber on the major growth and
promotional issues.• Training, seminars, being involved with committees.• Meeting other members in the community.• Access to community/military leaders.• Visibility.• Promotion of a strong business environment.• Relationship building.• The fact that they work hand in hand with us. Can always
call back and forth and always get the answer we are looking for. All are the utmost professionals and they do a superb job!
• Connecting opportunities with people in the region.• They let people know we are a new Manhattan business.
Introduce us to others and let us be involved with ribbon cuttings.
• Having a voice in areas that I would not be able to have as a small business. Being part of the larger group allows my opinions to be carried to a more influential and larger audience.
• Building a stronger community.• Chamber membership is where to join and meet other
vested community members!
The oldest business district in Kansas is turning125! In 1889, a simple book store sat on the cor-ner of a muddy, desolate street where studentscame from miles away to locate textbooks andschool supplies. Over one hundred years later, that book store is the hub of a thriving shoppingand dining district in Manhattan, Kansas. With 25stores , 39 restaurants and numerous bars locatedin this area, it is one of the most common attrac-tions of The Little Apple®.
Join us in helping Aggieville celebrate their 125thBirthday by attending the Birthday Street Fair andDance on Saturday, September 20th, 2014 in theheart of Aggieville. It will be the perfect scene forfamily and friends to celebrate the life of one ofour favorite community areas. Some events willinclude a Maker Faire and craft festival, the firstever Ferris Wheel in Aggieville, an antique carshow, a State Fair food cook-off, a giant donutbirthday cake, performing bands in Triangle Park,
K-State athletes showing off their skills in funnysports competitions, and historical tours of thebusiness district. All of these fun events lead up tothe main evening attraction: lighting up the streetsof Aggieville. The entire length of Moro Street inAggieville will have lights strung back and forthfrom all the businesses, creating an ultimate facelift to the already beautiful district. These lightswill remain to showcase the charming vibe ofAggieville.
Along with all of these entertaining events, theAggieville 125 Committee is urging the commu-nity to consider making donations in a fundrais-ing effort to fix parking, sidewalk conditions andstreetscape. This wonderful district has existedand grown for 125 years, with hopes that it willcontinue to thrive for years to come.
For more information on the history behindthis area, check out “Aggieville 1889-1989: 100
Years of the Aggieville Tradition”, by Dan Walteravailable at Varney’s Book Store in Aggieville. Tofind out more about the Street Fair and Dance, visit www.aggieville.org or call 785-776-8050.
