We, Indonesians, can never really avoid
the crazy heat and soon to be pouring rain-
drizzle—thanks to the impromptu weather
change nowadays! —but after all, we just
need to prepare each day for both. Little
black dress, sheer fabric, and kicks, oh
my! These street style looks make us itch
to try out a fun and unexpected black pa-
rade for this holiday season! Without seen
too bright, we prepare for sunny yet driz-
zly days with something more casual, neat,
and still on holiday flavour.
Today we’re wrapping up our resort col-
lection with the famous Keena Pearce and
his holiday inspiration. Click through our
slideshow for knowing more how Keenan
feels about being an icon to generation of
urban youth people. While we wholeheart-
edly join your vibrant summer vibe, it’s time
to show that everyone has their own blacks
including those of Korean-victim. Rather
than fretting over any imaginable shortcom-
ings in the gloomy summer, we’re in favour
of addressing the issue with simple fashion
fixes without seen too obscure.
Cheers,
Dwimayu BudinastitiEditor in Chief

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?Bristol, UK. When I was 4 years old, I moved to Indonesia, until now.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT BRISTOL?The place is peaceful and the average age there can be up until 85. So you can imagine how nice and cool that place is. Typically the places have the same shapes and the people there are friendly. Every morning you can see the grandparents take a walk and greet each other.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT INDONESIA?The varieties of culture are very attractive and unique. Wherever I go, I always surely long for Indonesian food.
WHAT FOOD DO YOU LIKE MOST?Umm, it’s a good question, but I will choose Nasi Gila. Really love it.
IF YOU COULD TRAVEL WITH SOMEONE, WHO WOULD YOU LOVE TO HAVE AS A COMPANY?Johnny Depp. Because he seems to have nice personalities, one of my favorite actors. He’s artistic and unique too.
WHAT WOULD YOU ASK?How is it being artistic, famous and as a person, human being. I want to ask about his daily life excluding the exposed issues.
WHAT STUFF DO YOU ALWAYS BRING DUR-ING THE TRAVELLING, EXCEPT CAMERA AND PHONE?Books. Especially about psychology, because I am interested in how the brain works. Reading books is also a form of therapy. When we read book, we will get into it and will able to imagine and get drawn into the stories in the book.

WHICH ONE DO YOU LIKE MORE WHENTRAVELING, MOUNTAIN, BEACH OR CITY?Anything, each one has its uniqueness. Beach and mountain, we can see the beauty of the world from how it was created in the beginning. The beauty by nature.
SINCE WHEN HAVE YOU LIKED TRAVELLING?I have been fond of it since I was a child, be-cause my mom loves travelling. She has been to some great places in the past, so I have good reference on which good destination and beau-tiful places should I pick first.
WHY DO YOU LIKE TRAVELLING?Because I can see how the world works in the different way. Points of view from people in each place must be different, how life is in every place and that’s interesting.
WHAT PLACE HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE UNTIL NOW?Karimun Java. I went there about 4 years ago when there were just a few people there. Being backpacker, I used bus and train for the trans-portation. It was really beautiful there. I had ex-perience living with the local people there dur-ing the 4 days and it was so great.
IS THERE A COUNTRY THAT YOU’VE NEVER BEEN BUT ARE DYING TO SEE?Brazil. Because it is one of the famous coun-tries and I’m curious about the social status differences. Which obviously happens between rich and poor people there.
YOU LOOK SO CLOSE WITH YOUR FAMILY. WHAT’S THE MOST INTERESTING THING FROM TRAVELLING WITH YOUR FAMILY?Well yes, we are close in a unique way. Usu-ally when I am travelling with my family, we will have our own way. Busy with our own different destination. Come to a place and we’re sepa-rated to go alone without each other to different destinations and then we’ll get back together.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING TO PHOTO-GRAPH WHILE TRAVELLING, AND WHY?Actually, capturing photos means we capture what we want to memorize, the moments during the travelling. But I prefer portraits that candidly capture the daily activities of people there, it’s interesting. I also have another project called “Citizen People”. The photos tend to describe-more daily life, capturing human by nature.
WHICH ONE DO YOU PREFER, TRAVELLING ALONE OR WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS?I prefer to go alone.
WHAT’S THE GREATEST ADRENALINE PUMPING-EXPERIENCE YOU’VE EVER FELT WHILE TRAVE-LING?When I tried bungee jumping in Gold Coast, Australia.
YOU LIKE DIVING, DON’T YOU? SO FAR, WHERE’S THE BEST SPOT TO DIVE?Kanawa Island, it’s still so pure. The corals are
great and there were varieties of fish.
IS THERE ANY SPORT THAT YOU REALLY WANT TO TRY?I really want to try American Jetpack. It looks so fun and different.
DO YOU HAVE SPECIAL RITUAL WHEN YOU’RE TRAVELLING? LIKE BUYING THE LOCAL GIFTS AND OTHERS?Nope, I don’t. I prefer to keep everything in my mind. To be something that I can always re-member and memorize.
member and memorize.
I WOULD NEVER GO ON HOLIDAY TO PLACE LIKE …….Well, as a matter of fact, I would like to visit every place. Even Uganda which is for sure not people’s popular destination, still there must be something new I can learn about there, from the life and the people.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST GET INTO DESIGNING?We don’t actually call it designing. Our approach is more to just provide all the basic needs instead of creat-ing something new or the-it-style. Calling us a designer is a bit too overrated, but thanks!
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A SO-NOT-CALLED-A DESIGNER?We don’t have any pressure to create a follow trend product. It’s exhausting to create something distinctive from the others, vice versa we just sell human needs, some basics.
WHAT’S THE MOST INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE YOU’VE

HAD SINCE STARTING KOTONE?Communicating and dealing with the tailors. Frankly we’re mentally taught by all those broken promises and misconception. It’s hard to put ourselves in their shoes.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST MEMORABLE INTERACTION OR CONVERSATION WITH A CUSTOMER THAT YOU’VE SERVED?
There’s only few customers that know what they want, while the others don’t exactly have clue which and what they want. Mostly only know that they’re interested with our products, so they come up with some funny ques-tions like “I have a huge shank, so which one will suit me?”. Or “I wanna wear these pants to a party, what is the best one for me?”. Frankly, sometimes we don’t have much time to answer these questions, so we pre-fer to let LocalBrand.co.id handle them.
IF KOTONE COULD BE WORN BY ANYONE IN THE WORLD, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHERE?The hottest couple Ashton and Mila Kunis while they’re having a fine dine with preppy attire. Moreover while
they’re cuddling in super comfy and breathable fabric Kotone.
IS THERE A CHARACTERISTIC IN PEOPLE WITH CER-TAIN STYLE THAT STANDS OUT TO YOU?Nop. Kotone is about people who don’t give a damn what others think. Who don’t think much about what they wear and how they look.
DID YOU STUDY DESIGN OR ARE YOU A SELF-TAUGHT?It started back then when we just need some ba-sic things, yet needed to buy them with an insane price. So we decided to make our own and found it much cheaper! Made it many, then we sell them. So we basically are self-taught by something that we need. More like a basic instinct as urban youth with a budget limitation.
WHEN DID YOU GET YOUR FIRST SELF-MADE CLOTH?Eid Mubarak dress. All in white and long sleeves without any body-cut.
“ I T ’ S E X H A U S T I N G T O C R E AT E

WHAT WAS IT? WHAT ARE YOUR MEMORIES OF THAT TIME?When we were child. We found the dress that we like on the magazine, crop it, and ask a tailor to make one as the pretty model wore. The result was not even close our expectation.
WHAT WAS YOUR PLAN B IN PRODUCING CLOTHES?No clothes in our plan B. We create shoes and purses in the B world.DO YOU LISTEN TO MUSIC WHILE YOU CREATING FOR KOTONE? IF SO, WHAT ARE SOME TRACKS YOU KEEP ON REPEAT? Actually we listen on 8tracks, so we can’t play them in

very high rotation. They only allow us to play a playlist less than 3 times hahaha. But our keywords are always 60s, 70s, happy, or oldies.
THIS IS YOUR SECOND COLLECTION, WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?Basics. Is that too short? So Basic for 2014 then haha.
NAME THREE ITEMS THAT EVERY GIRL SHOULD HAVE IN THEIR WARDROBE?Kotone highwaist, Kotone sweatpants for men, and v-neck boyfriend white tee.
WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO STYLE FOR A KOTONE MAKE-OVER PROJECT?We don’t make over someone, as with Kotone only you can already feel safe. You can never go wrong with Ko-tone. So we choose to make someone as Miley and Bieber, we guess they will be just all right in Kotone.
WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO COLLABORATE IN THE FU-TURE?
A backpacker community. Travel in basic clothes yet comfortable, what can beat something like that?
WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN AS START-UP BUSINESS?Well design, good in business.
