• Converse were especially made for basketball.

• Converse were introduced in the 1910’s.

• Chuck Taylor started wearing converse in 1917.

• During World War 2 Chuck Taylor sneakers became the official sneaker of the US Armed forces.

WHO WAS CHUCK TAYLOR?

• Chuck Taylor was born June 24, 1901.

• He was an All Star himself.

• He retired in 1968.

• He died June 23, 1969 one day before his 68th birthday.

CONVERSE….These are the converse they used in World War 2.

These are older high top converse.

MODERN CONVERSE!!!!

These are converse worn in the 80’s.

FACTS…• Converse were not very popular until Chuck Taylor

adopted them as his preferred shoe.

• Classic black converse are the most popular but Chuck preferred white.

• Customers demanded more variety from the shoe.( Particularly for the shoe to match the basketball teams colors.)

• Soon they were made in different fabrics such as leather, suede, vinyl, denim, etc.

FACTS (CONTINUED)…• Other styles of the came later such as the low

top converse and later the knee high converse.

• Converse were bought by Nike in 2003.

• Later they made new converse with no laces, held up by elastic.

• Many bands adopted the shoe a fashion trend in the 70’s.
