Train no 06055 comprising 15 general second class coaches will leave Tambaram at 09.30 hrs on Nov 3 and 5 and ply via Chengal-pattu, Melmaruvathur, Tindiva-nam, Villupuram, Vridhachalam, Ariyalur, Srirangam, Tiruchy, Manaparai, Dindigul, Kodai Road, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Satur and Kovilpatti and reach Tirunelveli at 9.30 pm the same day. In the return direction, train no 06056 will leave Tirunelveli at 9.30 am on Nov 4 and 7 and reach

Tambaram at 10.15 pm the same day.

Wearing stilettos or pencil heels might be fashionable but it can have an adverse affect on health, especially bones, and may lead to major health hazards like degen-erative arthritis -- also called osteo-arthritis. According to study from, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), wearing high heels every day for long hours can lead to cumulative damage of bones and emerge as a leading cause for arthritis. Osteoarthritis, one of the most common chronic and long-lasting joint condition, is caused by joint damage where the cartilage breaks down, causing the bones within the joint to rub to-gether. This leads to pain, stiffness and other issues. Women, espe-cially those who are below 40, are

coming to AIIMS with such joint pain-related issues caused due to wearing of high heels. If ignored, these may lead to severe health problems which might need sur-gery to be cured. High heels cause unequal weight distribution on the foot bones, exposing those areas of joints to bear weight which are normally not designed to do so. This results in painful foot condi-tions like bunions and meta-tarsal-gias -- also known as fore-foot pain. Wearing heels generates pressure on knees and toes and they start aching if heels are worn for too long. The calf muscle is also stressed continuously, the study added. High heels can cause major joint problems

Fire and Rescue Ser-vices personnel in the neighbourhood

can now heave a sigh of relief thanks to the Su-preme Court’s order re-stricting bursting of fire crackers for only two hours this Deepavali. In Tamil Nadu, the govern-ment has said that crackers could be burst between 6 am and 7 am and between 7 pm and 8 pm on Deep-avali day.

Usually the personnel attached to the Fire and Rescue Services Station in J J Nagar, Mogappair East, remain extra alert

round the clock on the day of Festival of Lights to combat accidental fire in the neighbourhood, espe-cially in and around areas where there are houses with thatched roofs. This year that extra vigil needs to be paid for an hour each in the morning and eve-ning, assuming that there are no violation by resi-dents in adhering to the Supreme Court mentioned two hour deadline for bursting crackers.

Asked about the apex court’s direction and how it would impact their work-ing on Deepavali day, V Elangovan, Station Offi-cer, Fire and Rescue Ser-

vices, J J Nagar told Mogappair Mail: “We be-lieve that this year the

number of fire accidents could come down drasti-cally because the number of hours the crackers could

be lighted has been re-stricted to an hour in the morning and another hour

in the evening. We will re-ma in ex t ra alert during t h o s e t w o hour window per iod pre -scribed by the Tamil Nadu Government.”

Nonethe -less Elango-van and his team of dedi-cated Fire and

Rescue Services personnel are leaving nothing to chance. “We will not be complacent at all. In fact,

there will be no compro-mise in the arrangements to be made on Deepavali day. Like every Deepavali, we will remain fully alert round the clock and we have made all arrange-ments to meet any exigen-cies on that day.

The only thing is we expect fewer number of distress calls to come,” he explained.

In fact, leaving no stone unturned the Fire and Rescue Services Depart-ment has gone ahead with all precautionary exercises. “We have been conducting awareness programmes for school children in the Mogappair neighbour-

hood on how to burst crackers safely. We have insisted that children keep a bucket full of water, a bag of sand and sacks nearby while lighting crackers so that in case of any fire mishaps in can be combated immediately,” he said. The demonstra-tions for a safe Deepavali were conducted at the Government schools and Velammal School in Mogappair East and West. “The school management and students cooperated and showed a lot of inter-est. We distributed pam-phlets on safe cracker prac-tices to them,” Elangovan said.

Whatever be the number of po-lice eyes put on

watch it will not be suffi-cient for the Greater Chen-nai police, to do justice when it comes to detection and solving a crime.

With more than 50,000 closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) function-ing in the city, the Chennai City Police Commissioner Mr A K Viswanathan had announced that the num-ber of cameras be in-creased to 1 lakh. It is a fact that even with this insufficient number of cameras, is proving to be a lifeline for police as it helps them in nabbing the accused.

To attain the mammoth target, city police had ear-lier started to seek public and welfare associations’ help in installing CCTV cameras facing the road. Big corporate houses were even asked to support the police by providing cam-eras under their Corporate Social Responsibil i ty

(CSR) funds. At a function held in

Mogappair East on Thurs-day, City Commissioner A K Viswanathan inaugu-

rated CCTV Cameras, coming under the Nolum-bur Police station (V-7 ju-risdiction). Those present were Dhinakaran, Addl

He has sponsored 100 cameras. Though it may be only a part of the project, this will do a world of good for the safety of those living in Mogappair.
