help protect the environment.
Did you know? The Calanques National Park is the first national park in Europe to contain land, sea,
islands and several towns. To follow the rules of the Calanques National Park:
In town: how about choosing to walk, cycle or take public transport where possible?
In the countryside: never drop litter. Smoking and starting fires is not allowed. Respect plants and wildlife. Don’t pick plants. Don’t leave the marked-out paths.
On boats: don’t drop any litter in the sea, and watch out for Posidonia meadow (a protected species of plant) when dropping an anchor.

Sea and beaches
On the beach: Don’t leave anything on the beach - clean up your spot before you leave it.
Marseille is a seaside city with lots of lifeguarded beaches where you can swim, go diving, chill out or play at being a dolphin or a submarine.
Activity ideas: On the beaches in the summer, everyone, kids and grown-ups, can try out a range of different sports, from tai chi to bodyboarding, go karting to paddle boarding.
Starting from the Vieux-Port, the closest beaches are two small sandy beaches, les Catalans and le Prophète great for a chilled-out swim.
A bit further, you’ll come to the big Prado seaside park. There weren’t always beaches here. Amazing! The 26 hectares of green space and 10 hectares of coarse sand and fine pebble beaches were partly made from material that was dug up when the metro was built. You can swim, play, do some skateboarding or take a ride on a carousel and also have something to eat or enjoy an ice cream... it has everything you and your family need for a day on the beach!
Another great beach for all the family is Pointe Rouge. It’s the largest sandy beach and is further away again but still accessible by bus.
On the other side of Marseille, to the north, after the little port of Estaque, you’ll find the Corbières beaches, surrounded by greenery. These fine sand and pebble beaches are partly shaded, great for when the sun is very strong.

stay safe in the sunToo much sun between midday and 4pm in the summer is not good for you. It’s best to protect your skin
with sun cream and a t-shirt, your eyes with sunglasses and your head with a hat /cap.
You should get your torso and neck wet before going in the water to get your body used to the change of
temperature. You mustn’t swim straight after a meal. You need to drink water regularly.
Always stay where your parents can see you, whether on the beach or in the water.

Lifeguarded areawith no dangerSwimming is dangerousbut there’s a lifeguard: don’t go into the water without letting your parents knowNo swimming allowed:you must stay on the sandNo one allowed on the beach or in the water because of pollution
Next stop - adventure! Just like your parents, you can explore Marseille the way you want to over 24, 48 or 72 hours with or without public transport, with the Marseille Pass for kids! You can go up to the Notre-Dame de la Garde cathedral on the little tourist train, travel around the city on the Colorbüs sightseeing bus, take a boat along the coast to the islands and explore the If Castle, discover everything there is to learn from the museums and lots more surprises!
Low prices for children - and parents! Where to find the Marseille Pass: • At the Marseille Metropolitan Tourist Office and Convention Bureau, 11 La Canebière, 13001 Marseille • On the Marseille Metropolitan Tourist Office and Convention Bureau website: marseilleexperience.com
