Multiplying Fractions with Whole Numbers.

We’re going to show you how to multiply a fraction with a whole number. Here is a problem.
4/6 x 24This is the whole numberThis is the fraction.
First you place a 1 under the whole number like 24.
4/6 x 24/1
Then you compare the denominator and numerator 24 and 6 like this.
4/6 x 24/1
Then you try to figure out the GCF that goes into 24 and 6 equally
4/6 x 24/1
So what does go into 6 and 24 equally…..
Right, number 4 goes into 4 and 24 equally. So then you divide 4 into 4 and 24 which is 1 and 6 in this case. Then you change 4 into 1 and 24 into 6 like this.
4/6 x 24/1
4/1 x 4/1
Then you multiply the two numerators and the two denominators like this.
4/1 x 4/1
16/1
