KIDS CORNER SHOWCASE
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear friends, As my kids continue distance learning, I am beginning to wonder are they really learning anything. All-day long they stare at a screen and when I am not looking play video games. There were some articles this week basically saying homeschooling is torture for all those involved. As parents, we continue to keep our kids safe. We remind them that they must constantly wash their hands. My body has absorbed so much soap and disinfectant lately that when I pee it cleans the toilet. Sometimes we take our kids for granted. As a community, we tend to focus on the well being of the adults. Other times we push them aside, and at times they just surprise us. Sammy, while either being fed up with school or just bored, decided to do something productive with his time and help out. He is drawing, mostly superhero characters, and selling them for tzedakah, all proceeds going to Chai Lifeline (email me if you wish to see his portfolio). I guess he is learning something after all. Sammy also wanted to contribute to this week’s bulletin. (See his latest drawing in the bulletin). It would be great if other children could send us some artwork, we will try and post some to the bulletin. One of the bright spots this week was Yom Ha'atzmaut. It was fantastic seeing the community coming together and celebrating. Mizrachi did a tremendous job of putting together an excellent program remotely. Even though it was not live, the program had all the elements that it usually has, plus some new content. It was great having the past Shlichim doing a musical Hallel. Everyone who took
part can attest that it was very moving. Yasher koach to all those involved and especially to Rabbi Mazer for putting it together. My thoughts turn to leadership this week. I look to the USA and see Donald Trump (who I like) say stupid things like injecting Clorox into your veins to kill the virus, to Trudeau, Ford and rest of world leaders. Everyone is trying to figure out when and how to open the economy. The numbers in Ontario have been trending downward this week and looks like social distancing is working. When will they ease up or when will we open, I do not know. What I do know is that we need to keep looking out for one another and helping wherever we can. We are in a stretch of waiting, who knows what's next - be strong, continue social distancing. Let us hope the numbers keep on dropping that that province will re-open soon. If anyone needs anything, please reach out to us we will try and help where we can. May we continue to build on strengthening friendship, community and helping those who need. As always, stay strong, safe and healthy. Shabbat Shalom
Alan
