A $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Diana Marie Boh-lander has been authorized by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly.

Bohlander and her son, Ty Bohlander, are suspect-ed of killing 64-year-old James McFarland, whose body was discovered alongside a rural Cherokee County Road on April 30, 2017.

Ty Bohlander was apprehended in Santa Monica, California in late March and has since been extradited back to Kansas to face murder charges.

“We have been work-ing closely with Santa Monica investigators and believe Diana to still be in that area, frequenting homeless shelters. The au-thorization of this reward by Governor Kelly will strongly aid in our efforts to locate and subsequently apprehend Diana Bohland-er and bring her back to be tried for the crimes she is accused of committing,” concluded Sheriff Groves.

Governor Kelly’s Ex-ecutive Order, 19-06, was filed by the Kansas Sec-retary of State on April 9, 2019.

Governor authorizes reward for murder suspect

the American Third Army liberates the Buchenwald concentration camp, near Weimar, Germany, a camp that will be judged second only to Auschwitz in the horrors it imposed on its prisoners.

As American forces closed in on the Nazi con-centration camp at Buch-

enwald, Gestapo headquar-ters at Weimar telephoned the camp administration to announce that it was send-ing explosives to blow up any evidence of the camp–including its inmates.

What the Gestapo did not know was that the camp administrators had already fled in fear of the Allies. A prisoner answered the phone and informed headquarters that explo-sives would not be needed, as the camp had already been blown up, which, of course, was not true.

The camp held thou-sands of prisoners, mostly slave laborers. There were no gas chambers, but hun-dreds, sometimes thou-sands, died monthly from disease, malnutrition, beat-ings, and executions. Doc-tors performed medical experiments on inmates, testing the effects of viral infections and vaccines.

the horror film The House of Wax, starring Vincent Price, opens at New York’s Paramount Theater. Re-leased by Warner Brothers, it was the first movie from a major motion-picture studio to be shot using the three-dimensional, or ste-reoscopic, film process and one of the first horror films to be shot in color.

The House of Wax launched Price on his long and successful career as a star of horror movies. It also jump-started the ca-reer of Charles Buchinsky, who played the support-ing role of Jarrod’s mute servant; he would go on to achieve international fame as Charles Bronson, star of innumerable action mov-ies. Earning an impres-sive (by 1953 standards) $4.3 million at the box of-fice, the movie sparked an explosion of similar 3-D thrillers, including The Mad Magician (1954), also starring Price.
