2010 SEC TournamentMarch 11-14 Sommet Center Nashville, Tenn. The 2010 Southeastern Conference Men's Basketball

Tournament returns to the Sommet Center in Nashville. It will be the third time that the arena has served as thehost of the SEC Tournament, having also hosted in2001 and 2006. The Sommet Center, which also is thehome of the NHLs Nashville Predators, opened inDecember 1996 and has hosted more than 12 millionguests. It has become Nashvilles No. 1 venue for large-scale musical produc-tions, as well as one of the nations most highly acclaimed entertainment andsports venues. Seating capacity is approximately 18,160 for basketball games.

The winner of the 11-game tournament receives the SEC's automatic bid to theNCAA Tournament. The tournament seeds, conference championship and divi-sion titles are determined by the 16-game conference schedule during the regu-lar season. Teams are seeded by their divisional finish and features EasternDivision-Western Division matchups in every game should the higher seed wineach contest.

Atlanta served as host of the inaugural SEC Tournament played following the1932-33 season and did so again after the 1933-34 season. The event washeld every year through 1952, with the exception of 1935. After a 26-year lay-off (1953-78), the tournament was renewed in 1979. The 2010 tournament

will be the 51st in league history and the 32nd since the renewal. The SEC has shown extraordinary balance in the tournament, evidenced by

the fact that a different school won the first seven titles after the renewal. Theevent has helped set the stage for SEC teams in the NCAA Tournament, as 22of the last 29 tournament champions have advanced to at least the Sweet 16with five of the last 13 going on to win the national championship. Since therenewal in 1979, the SEC Tournament Champion has failed to win at least oneNCAA Tournament game only four times.

Kentucky leads the league with 25 SEC Tournament titles. Alabama is sec-ond with six, while Tennessee ranks third with four. Florida and Mississippi Stateeach have three championship trophies. Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, OleMiss, Vanderbilt and former league member Georgia Tech have each won oneSEC Tournament championship.

Three SEC players active in 2009-10 have recorded triple-doubles, includingtwo that accomplished the feat last season. Arkansas sophomore CourtneyFortson recorded the second triple-double in school history when he had 20points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists against North Carolina Central on Dec. 10,2008. Tyler Smith became the first player in Tennessee history to record a triple-

double when he had 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against UNCAsheville Dec. 3, 2008. Mississippi States Jarvis Varnado recorded a triple-dou-ble with 10 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks against Kentucky in 2007-08. According to KenPom.com, in 2008-09 eight of the SoutheasternConferences 12 teams ranked among the 90 (out of 344 total) youngestteams in the nation. Ole Miss (344), Arkansas (340), Vanderbilt (338),Mississippi State (321) and Florida (312) each rank among the 35 youngestsquads. Throughout the history of mens college basketball, the SoutheasternConference has captured 10 NCAA Championships and four NIT titles, puttingthe SEC as one of the nations top basketball conferences. Of the 60 starters at the 2009 SEC Tournament, only 11 were seniors. The SEC won 72.6 percent (135-51) of its non-conference games in 2008-09,including 54 of its last 74 games.

Two SEC schools ranked in the top four nationally in attendance for 2008-09. Kentucky led the nation with an average of 22,239 fans per game andTennessee was fourth nationally with an average of 20,483 per game. Amongthe leagues statistical leaders, only five of the top 30 scorers, five of the top30 rebounders and two of the top 15 assist-men were seniors. Every team in the SEC has made at least one NCAA Tournament appearancein the last seven editions of the NCAA Tournament. The SEC is one of just two conferences in the nation to have all of its teamsranked at least one week in the Associated Press top 25 (excluding preseasonpolls) since 1999-00. Simply stated, every SEC team has been a top-25 team

nationally at one point in the last 10 seasons. The ACC is the only other con-ference that can make this claim.
