Message from the Principal
How fabulous was our first disco! It was so exciting to see our children utilising our amazing gym. Big thumbs up to GROW WRPS, our staff and all of the parents who made it such a successful community event. We are looking forward to our next GROW disco in September.
Today Ben and I are working with our school cluster group and what a privilege it is to work with such positive and like-minded school leaders. Our cluster of schools is us, Clearview, Rolleston Primary, Weedons, Lemonwood Grove, Kingslea School, Rolleston Christian School, West Melton, Burnham, Waitaha Special School, Rolleston College and is open to all of our Early Childhood Centres. Our cluster vision is Communities Collaborating to Grow and we are planning for some exciting future projects which will benefit all of our learners.
You don’t need to bring your own chair to assembly tomorrow! Yah

Board of Trustees Update
Its been over a month now that the Board of Trustees has come together from the election – firstly, thanks to everyone that stood and to all that voted – and congrats to the Board appointments. At our first Board meeting we basically introduced ourselves and had a quick facilitated session on governance, and then the Board elected a Chair. The Board comprises Simon McDermott (Chair), Lee-Ann Irving, Joe Bennett, Sam Forward (Parent reps) and Rebecca Lambert (Teacher rep), with Sylvia Fidow as Principal, and Trish Hann as Secretary. You can view some information on the Board on the West Rolleston School website! We have a program of activity to undertake this year with a strong focus around student achievement. The Board is your representatives on issues related to how the school is governed – it is worthwhile reading about how a Board operates and what we can and cant do as parent representatives – see http://www.nzsta.org.nz/accountability/board-responsibilities there is heaps of information about this on this website also. The Board is still canvassing the MoE and the Selwyn District Council for resolution on the street frontage on Dunns Crossing Road – can we suggest everytime you see a local Councillor you express your dissatisfaction with the current time its taking to get the actual work done (as it sits with them)! Suffice to say the MoE are also quite passive on this – but we remind them frequently of their responsibility. We would also like to lend our support to the GROW team who are setting up events and activities in our school – its fantastic to see the disco, milo and toast, sausage sizzles and the like taking off – and the amazing response from our children and parents. It goes to the heart of creating a community around our school – and certainly enriches the school for everyone. I know they are focused on raising funds for the school and we all appreciate this. A major focus going forward will be a new playground area for our older children – so watch out how you can help!! Only a week left of school – so we can all recharge. It seems to be that the year is going really fast, and that the school is growing nicely. Planning is underway for the Y5-8 students for next year, and we are also lifting our sites to current student achievement and plans for any improvements in this area. Finally – if you want to discuss anything with the Board feel free to talk to a trustee. Simon McDermott (Board Chair)

Situation Vacant
The Selwyn Aquatic Centre’s swim school is extremely busy and we need further swim instructors. We thought it may be an opportunity for some of your school community parents who are home during the day, to consider as a part time job while their children are at school. “The Selwyn Aquatic Centre is very busy with school and after-school swimming lessons. We are currently looking for enthusiastic people to join the swim school team to help with these lessons. If you have some spare hours during the day (perhaps while the children are at school), and/or Saturday mornings, please contact the Swim School Supervisor on 3472 937. All training is provided and flexible hours are offered.”
