Viking Voice A newsletter for and about HRA students, parents, alumni, and friends
Summer 2014
Debi Akin was recognized at the Rotary Club of Donelson-Hermitage “Service Above Self”
awards luncheon earlier this year. The award honors local educators who have demonstrated
the Rotary’s model of service. Recipients are nominated by fellow teachers, students, and
school administrators.
Dear Parents, Friends, and Benefactors,
Holy Rosary continues to support and encourage the development of our children within
our Christ-centered community based on Catholic tradition and academic excellence.
As a 2013 U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School, we offer an
academic program that instills high standards and achievement for our students. We
work together with our families towards two unifying goals: to get their children into
heaven and into college.
Thank you for making this wonderful Academy possible! We need your support to
continue our educational programs and keep tuition affordable for our families. God bless
you and your generosity!
Peace,
Betty Reynolds, Ed.D.

contributed to the 2013-14 HRA+ Annual Fund Campaign.
Donations for this year’s campaign, gifts for tuition assistance
(assisting 51 students), and support from community partner
programs totaled $31,638. Because of the generosity of everyone
who participated, we are able to purchase 60 iPads and two
charging carts with each cart including a central computer for the
teachers. Thank you for your support!

Blue Ribbon Ball Volunteer Committee:
Race for Education– Our Race for Education was held on May 28th and was a huge success! Students had a great time and
ran many laps, with Brian Hock (his hair dyed Viking blue!) leading students in lap after lap around the gym. Bryan Bennett
provided Italian ice treats for the students. Thanks to the many generous supporters who donated on behalf of our students
we raised $25,795. With this money we were able to make several advancements in technology for the school. We increased
our bandwidth from 3Mbps to 100Mbps, added additional Wi-Fi appliances to improve our guest Wi-Fi signal, upgraded the
network patch cables throughout the building, supplemented the funds given to HRA+ to provide iPads for classroom use,
installed projector speakers in each classroom, and installed a mini-computer lab for Title I students. Thank you so very much
for your generosity!

The Holy Rosary Academy Library is a hub of student and community activity. From library class to bible study, the
library is a great space for learning! We have been blessed with a tremendous amount of support over the years.
We are supported with gifts of time, talent, and treasures. Our Fall and Spring Book Fairs raised $3,588.11 and the
Birthday Books, Memorials, and In Honor of donations helped the library with an additional $1,115.Thanks to a
generous donation of $10,000 from an anonymous donor this year we are able to purchase new student chairs
and 2 new bookcases for our library. We now have the space to add new titles to our fiction collection! Thanks to
donations from families and community organizations our book collection continues to grow each year.
The Stones River Woman’s Club continues to support our library program through sponsorship of student activities
and donations. Over the past two years, with monies raised from Book Fairs, Birthday Book Club, donations and
sponsorships we have been able to add over 450 new titles to our collection. We have also purchased a class-
room set of The 2014 World Almanac and several other reference books for students to use as they work and
study in the library. Thank you for making the HRA Library a special and wonderful place for our students to share
ideas, enjoy stories and acquire literacy skills.
