Mule Whispers From Carole
February 20, 2020
Snarl, snarl, snarl!! Ah, the joys of learning two new computers. Getting all my programs up and running. Then getting the printer to respond when I tell it to print. Have had my local Ferndale Tech computer gurus up here three times to get it all synced. And as of this morning it seems to be all set and all components working.
Cathy and Jacque were our directors to the State Board meeting in Santa Nella February 7-9, 2020. They will report at our regular meeting on Wednesday, March 4 at Freshwater School. We are down to only one voting director as our membership as of December 31, 2019 was below 150.
Next up is the Trail Challenge on Saturday, March 7, 2020, beginning at 10:00 am. Susan is handling registrations and questions. The snack bar will be open, and Marty will probably do french fries. A committee has been formed to take care of the prep work for the Challenge. We will need extra help running it if you are available. Be there, rain or shine!
The State Rendezvous it Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29,m 2020 in Red Bluff. There are quite a few Redwood Unit members going over to attend and help with putting on this event. The next planning meeting is Saturday, February 29, in Red Bluff, and some members will be going over for this.
Our next meeting is Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Freshwater School. The dinner group will gather at the Sizzler about 5:30-6:00 p.m. or so.
The weather is really nice lately. Plenty of sunshine, but its also cold. So bundle up, and get out there for a ride. Exercise your equines! And you!
As always, saddle side up!

Standing Committee Reports Public Lands – See Carole’s report elsewhere in newsletter. Public Liaison - Mort Scott absent. Education – Jacque Murphy absent. Other Committee Reports Billie Mohr said the monthly conditioning ride would meet at the Cuneo log deck Saturday, February 22,
2020. Meet at 10 a.m., ride out at 10:30. Cathy Mathena reported she had submitted volunteer hours to state. David Pritchard needs three more shirt sales to send in an order for the handsome, long sleeved, button down
green cotton Unit shirts. Vests are also available. Historian Matt Giacomini absent but he’s still collecting photos for scrapbook. “Save Your Horse” has been lent to the Blooms. Unfinished Business Rendezvous 2020 will be March 27-28 at Red Bluff. Cathy, David Pritchard and Lori White will bring ropes
and plastic calf heads for kids to rope. David has some donations for auction. The 2019 audit has been completed and sent to the State. The members-only pack clinic at Polasek’s was well attended and the food was good.
Cathy and Jacque will go to the state board meeting February 8. Anna Baglione may not be able to attend but will send a report on the packing intern issue. Carole may be able to go in Anna’s place.
The Trail Challenge is March 7 at Humboldt County Fairgrounds Covered Arena. The committee will meet February 7 but for sure will need help, especially event day, setting up and manning obstacles and helping clean up.
The Catered Ride is June 26-28. Posters are done and registration forms are being prepared to go out. The committee will meet February 12. Unit will vote at next meeting on whether to register and insure reefer trailer so it can be taken to grocery stores when food is being bought so food can go straight into reefer rather than being loaded into pick ups and then re-loaded again into reefer. It will save a lot of labor.
