Year 12 student, Tobbi-Shaih, graduated recently in Moree. She graduated with her cohort of seven other students from three other schools, Boggabilla, Collarenebri and Goodooga Central Schools. Tobbi shone on the night, earning the Academic Excellence award, and came first in the Senior Science course. She had undertaken the difficult course of choosing three subjects by external means, and excelled in Biology, coming first out of six students from outside schools which are regarded as quite academic. The 75 guests at the Artesian Spa Motor Inn were entertained by Tobbi‟s address, which she delivered with great panache. She mentioned the challenges presented by the way courses are delivered by video-conferencing, and the benefits associated with the constant use of technology during her latter school years. Tobbi rounded out her speech with the advice, “This is the first chapter of the rest of our lives and we are our own authors.” Tobbi‟s presence at Mungindi Central has been of great benefit to the school and other students. She has shown kind and thorough leadership for the younger students, and been an excellent role model for all. She will be missed by her teachers for her diligence, motivation and good humour. Well

done Tobbi, you deserve a great future.

K/1/2 have had a fantastic week as we continue our animal‟s topic.

1/2 have created some great owls, tigers and elephants this week.

For sport this week we have been learning about gymnastics with the help of Mrs Makila. We have also been working hard to learn the differences between nouns, verbs and adjectives and are getting very good at identifying these in writing.

K/1 have been learning all about time and are getting very good at telling o‟clock time. Mrs Taylor and Miss Freeth

Last Thursday I attended a road safety course which was held at the school. Kristy Childs

presented the course and I was accompanied by teachers from both Boomi and Garah Public

School. To start the day off, the importance of teaching road safety was explored followed by

the discussion of current road safety issues in our schools.

We then collaborated to assess these issues and explore some fantastic interactive and hands

on resources to teach awareness of road safety and to address current safety issues in our

schools.

Towards the end of the day we were provided with interactive activities in which we were able to

manipulate by inserting photos of our school and the community to present to students as a

visual tool when teaching about road safety.

During the day awareness brochures were created for parents and guardians to inform them of

the appropriate road safety routines when students are arriving and departing the school.

Thank you to all parents, students and teachers for talking about the school during the Dare to

Lead School Snapshot held this week. Your ideas and hopes for the future development of our

school are very much appreciated. A report is being developed which will provide guidance to

the next stage of our journey.

Stormco were very active in our school this week. They helped our students erect the sun

shelter for the agricultural plot, helped set in the posts for the Cultural Circle and spent hours

creating the costumes for our Performance night. On behalf of Mungindi Central School, I thank

this very dedicated group of young people who spent their “Schoolies Week” working and

playing with „kids in the bush‟. I would also like to extend a word of thanks to Mr Herdman‟s

theatrical friend, Daryl Kirkness, who has spent the week painting the set for our performance

and putting together the costumes. We are very grateful to him for his expert help.

Next week, the students will be attending a performance by Adam Mitchinal on Thursday at

1:00pm. The school will cover the costs of this fun arts council visit based on Aboriginal Cultural

stories, dance and music. The students should pick up some performance techniques for our

own school performance at the end of this term.

I would like to congratulate students in Years 9 & 10 who have been participating in work

experience over the past week in local businesses. Thank you to Mrs Brosnan for organising

this important aspect of our students‟ education.

Finally, I ask parents to put December 13 in their calendars. This is our school performance and

presentation night. It will begin at 5:30 pm with our school performance being organised by Mr

Herdman and Mrs Makila. We will have a quick light supper and then begin our presentation

ceremony at 6:45. We should be finished by 8:00 pm. We look forward to sharing this night with

you.

Year 10 Work Experience

Educators plan for learning at preschool; we consider our children and their needs and we use

the Early Years Learning Framework to guide us. Then there are the spontaneous actions of the

children that we build on, we adjust our program and let them follow through on their interests.

Spontaneity was our guide this week as we watched the Shire workers outside our fence. They

were digging up, grading and watering our road in preparation for sealing the edges of the road.

So of course the children in our preschool had to do the same. We have the tidiest playground

in the school, the paths are swept and the holes filled in. The children have been using their

tools and hardhats to become shire workers too. Some of the children wanted to cook morning

tea for the workers, so they got out the muffin pans and worked out a recipe, it had some

interesting ingredients. Now just look at us go!

STORMCO SAVE THE DAY

Last week Storm-Co have very generously made a massive contribution of time, manpower and technical expertise in the form of Mr Reg Morgan and his crew of Storm-Co members to help our school with the construction of our agricultural shade shelter. Of course, many other Storm-Co leaders and their teams have contributed to other projects in the school and the wider community, but my focus has been on the Shade Shelter project. For me, an enormous debt of thanks is owed due to Reg and his team completing fabrication of the frame, getting a full coat of paint on the frame and completing the technically and practically difficult task of raising the frame. This has put the Industrial Technology class in a good position to complete the bracing and cladding of the frame before the end of the year. What has also been excellent for me this week is to have seen many of our students in the High School benefit on another level. They have been more involved in a „fair-dinkum‟ industry standard construction project and this invaluable experience will serve our students well as they continue to grow and prepare for careers.
