Remembrance Day ServiceLast Friday, the School Captains conducted the School’s Remembrance Day Special Assembly commemorating this important occasion culminating with a minute’s silence at 11am. On Sunday 11 November, our two School Captains, Emma B and Tia B, represented Neutral Bay Public School at the North Sydney War Memorial Centenary Remembrance Day Service. Both School Captains laid a wreath at the Cenotaph on behalf of the school community. It was a very special service marking the 100th Anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War 1.

2019 Opportunity Class Orientation MorningThe Opportunity Class Orientation morning for prospective students will be held at 9.30am on Thursday 15 November in the School Hall. We look forward to welcoming our prospective Year 5 OC students and their parents to the school. Thank you to Ms Genevieve Carnegie, Mrs Carol Brown and Miss Kate Murray for organising the Orientation program.

Kindergarten Orientation ProgramYesterday we welcomed our prospective Kindergarten students to the school for the first session of the 2019 Kindergarten Orientation Program. They enjoyed a wonderful experience working in a classroom on rotational activities supervised by the Kindergarten teachers. We were very impressed with their enthusiasm and perseverance during the activities and it was clear that the children are gaining a sense of belonging to our school. The success of the Orientation Program this year is due to the team effort of Mrs Kelly Lockhart, Mrs Bryony Herborn, Miss Sally Haigh and the Kindergarten teachers.

Thank you also to our current Kindergarten parents for providing the delicious morning tea served to the new parents during the initial orientation session.

Wellbeing WeekThis week the staff and students are embracing Wellbeing Week. Students will undertake mindfulness activities in class and may complete a Wellbeing Homework Grid in the place of their regular homework.

P & C AssociationPlease note that the Neutral Bay P & C Association’s AGM scheduled for Wednesday 21 November has been postponed. The AGM will be held on Wednesday 12 December at 7.30pm in the Music Room.

Child SafetyRecently, we were made aware of a ‘stranger danger’ situation in the local area and request that parents:

• Have clear and definite arrangements for your child/children to travel to and from school each day and make sure your child is aware of these arrangements.

• Contact the school immediately if there is a change to these arrangements or if you will be delayed in collecting them. Teachers supervise the Kiss and Drop Zone each afternoon and students come to the Administration Office if they are not collected within a reasonable time so that parents can be contacted.

• If your child is walking to and from school, where possible make arrangements for them to do so with a sibling or friend.

• Have a rule that your child should always travel directly to school from home and to home from school.

• Where your child is involved in an after-school activity that may require them to remain at school at the conclusion of the school day, make arrangements for them to be collected following this activity rather than walk home.

• Discuss basic safety messages with your child to reinforce appropriate responses to dangerous or threatening situations.

Child Safety is part of the NSW Physical Education, Health and Personal Development Syllabus and students at Neutral Bay Public School learn about protective strategies for dealing with unsafe situations in different environments. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Choir NewsOn Monday 26 November at 8am, the Junior Choir will be recording an audition video for next year’s Primary Proms Festival in the Junior Library. Attendance at the audition recording is compulsory. Students need to wear full summer school uniform and black shoes. If students have sport on this day, they may bring their sport uniform to change into after they have been filmed. There will not be a Junior Choir rehearsal on Tuesday November 27. My apologies for any inconvenience caused by the change in routine.

Junior and Bay Choirs will also be performing at the Year 3 Presentation Assembly on Friday 7 December and the Year 4 Assembly on Monday 10 December. Students are also asked to wear summer uniform for these performances.

Junior and Bay Choirs will perform to the residents of Lansdowne Gardens Retirement Residence at the end of term. A permission note will come home soon via pupil post with the details.

Thank you for your continued support.Emma Howells – Junior Choir conductor

TBall ResultsHomerunnersCaptain: Ryan PMVP: Dylan TOn Friday, the Homerunners (Neutral Bay 1) played against Artarmon 2 and had an amazing game. We had some very good hits and did some awesome fielding. In the end, the score was 20 - 28 our way. I chose Dylan as the M.V.P because he hit well and got some homeruns, as well as getting lots of people out and subbing in for us.

StrikersCaptain: Mack WMVP: Alex MOn Friday, the strikers (Neutral Bay 3) played Middle Harbour 2 and we had an amazing game. In the end, the score was 23 - 6 our way. I really think we could work on our communication. The M.V.P was Alex M because of her amazing catches and teamwork.

Double OutsCaptain: Thomas MMVP: Toby HToby from 6S played very well and was our M.V.P. He was great at batting and fielding. Sadly, Artarmon won. The score was 30 - 14. I think we need to work on our fielding.

MVPsCaptain: Harrison MMVP: Joel A-EWe had a comfortable win against Cammeray 2. The result was that we scored 32 - 18. The M.V.P was Joel. He was amazing with his batting and he was great in the field. It was an amazing game today.

StealersCaptain: Matthew YMVP: Evie MLast week, we didn’t know the base layouts so a lot of us ran the wrong way. The other team also had different rules so they got us out a lot. I picked Evie because she ran the wrong direction and got out and didn’t argue. The score was 25 - 13 their way. We played Artarmon 3.

SlidersCaptain: Elise BMVP: Ruby OToday we played Anzac Park 1 and we tied for 16 - 16 but we didn’t get to finish our game because everyone was packing up. Our team batted really well. The M.V.P was Ruby for being respectful..

Miss J. Carew - 2C Class TeacherMiss S. Medhurst - KM Class Teachers

In Science this term Kindy has been learning about toys that move. KM used a Venn diagram to sort toys into three categories: push, pull, both. We experimented with toys that push, pull, spin, roll, slide and bounce!

I can push a lightsaber and a ball. You can push buttons. - Alan

I can push my Elf on the Shelf. I can pull a kite. - Penelope

I can push a tennis ball and a dice. I can pull a kite and a trolley. - Ally

I can push a tractor. I can pull blocks. – James W

As part of our Persuasive Writing Unit, Year 2 read ‘Hey, Little Ant’ by Phillip and Hannah Hoose. In the story, an Ant tries to convince a young boy NOT to step on him! It is a very amusing and thought-provoking story about differing points of view. 2C then used the topic ‘Ants Should Not Get Squished’ to write an exposition. Here are some of our texts. Which side are you on?

I believe that the ant should not get squished.Ants are food for other animals. If ants are not alive then other animals that eat ants will not be alive as well because they will starve.Ants have families too. If ants get squished then ants will be lonely and their families will miss them.Ants are strong. If the strongest ant dies then the weakest ant will die because their leader will not be there to teach them how to survive.Do not squish the ant!By Jamie L

I believe that we should squish the ant. There are millions of ants in the world. Who cares about squashing a few hundred ants! Every day lots of ants hatch from their eggs.Ants eat food that take for ever to grow so you have to grow them again and then they might bite it again and again.Ants bite. When they bite us it stings. If ants get squished they won’t be able to hurt us.I strongly agere we should step on them. It’s fun.By Noah V T

We then created some artworks based on the theme: What does the world look like from the perspective of an Ant. 2C decided everything would look humungous!!

3K was lucky enough to experience working with virtual reality. The students were able to explore the depths of the ocean including the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a shipwreck in Mexico. They even saw our very own Tank the Turtle under the sea. The students also used Quiver to make their colouring come to life. These activities created a unique and engaging experience for the class where nothing seemed impossible.

In preparation for the Year 6 Art Show on Wednesday 14 November, 6S studied the individual painting styles of several, famous artists. We also read a book entitled, ‘Picasso’s Trousers’ by Nicholas Allan. This book gives a brief introduction to the evolution of Picasso’s unique style, as he moved through his Blue, Red, Heavy and Front/Side periods.

Here are some look-a-likes completed by 6S students.
