Welcome Back Welcome back to school for Term Three. We trust you all had some quality time with family and friends, enjoying all that holidays have to offer. Despite the freezing weather, the students all seem to be buzzing

with excitement at returning to LPPS which is always a very positive start to any term.

Term 3 is a very important term for schools. In fact we would consider it the time where students can make the most learning progress as their confidence continues to grow, school routines are well established and

we are still well away from the energy, excitement and celebrations that the end of the year brings.

In many ways, like the old football saying goesthe third term is the premiership term! We have taken some great steps so far this year after a positive start and this has provided a strong platform for the second semester.

Teachers have been busy preparing Parent Planners which help outline our curriculum and key events during the term. Parent planners are

due to go home next Monday.

Works Over the Holidays We have had a range of works completed over the holidays to further improve and upgrade our school. These

    have included:

Maintenance to the bi fold doors in the general purpose room, including new runners and general service.

Plumbing works throughout the school, with major works in the boys toilets and a new hot water system and sink in the canteen.

Updated cabinetry in the hex building.

Polishing and steam cleaning of carpets and flooring.

Pruning and general garden and school ground maintenance.

Work on our new car park is also progressing well, with concrete pathways laid and levelling of areas to receive bitumen completed. We will keep you updated on when works will be completed, but in the meantime, thank you for your patience with parking, especially at drop off and

    pick up times.

The terrace area near the netball courts is going to be asphalted. Thanks must go out to Andrew Smith for organizing the project. A special thanks for the work done so far to Mitch (Sophies dad) and Rob (Haydens dad) for their help over the holidays. The preparation work needs to be finalised.

URGENT WORKING BEE When: Sunday What Time: 2:00pm What to Bring: Shovels, steel rakes and wheelbarrows What to Do: Prepare the terraced area at the netball courts

Please remember that portfolios should be returned to school by Friday. Thanks to the many parents who returned the portfolios during parent/teacher interviews. As the year progresses students and teachers will continue to add work samples, items of interest and assessment pieces. The enthusiastic response that we have received has certainly reinforced the importance and significance of the portfolios.

Having pride and respect for your school involves a number of behaviours; making sure that our grounds are well maintained is one. Last term there was an increase in rubbish around the school which gives the school an unkempt look. Students have been reminded that the courtyard is the only area for eating outside as bins are close

by for the disposal of rubbish.

Much of the rubbish in the yard is from chip packets, biscuits, muesli bars and other processed foods. This type of food is not the best for providing young bodies and minds with the energy that they need to do their best learning. Although an occasional treat is ok, a treat for recess and another at lunchtime is not good for growing

children. An occasional treat should be that occasional, not every day.

Parents are reminded to look at what they are sending along for students to eat: fruit, vegetables, healthy muffins with grains or fruit, wraps and cheese sticks/ cubes are all great choices to provide energy for healthy minds and bodies. Many processed foods have high concentrations of salt, sugar, flavour enhancers and additives which

are not going to provide what your child needs to be at their best for learning.

Along with considering what you are sending along could you please think about the rubbish that is created by many of these pre- packaged items. In past years we have had Rubbish Free days but are now looking to minimize rubbish each and every week for the benefit of the school

and the planet. There are some fantastic lunch boxes available which have compartments designed to contain everything from a sandwich or wrap to chopped or

    whole fruit.

Reducing rubbish through the use of reusable containers will keep our school clean, look after the planet and send a powerful message to children about the importance of looking after their world. Increasing the nutrition in your child's lunchbox will provide their brain with the best fuel for learning, set up healthy eating

habits and give lots of energy for energetic play.

Next week our Sustainability Team will provide some tips on how to make lunches wrapper free.

Welcome back all, to another term and to the colder months! It certainly feels like snow season now - and I'm sure many of you could see the snow on Mt Donna Buang throughout the holidays. Let's remember to look out for each other in the winter months as it can mess with our health at times. If you find that you or someone in your family are feeling uncommonly down or 'gloomy', please pop in for a chat. There are lots of reasons for this during winter but there's no

    reason to endure it alone!

For the remainder of this year I'll be at school on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, which is slightly different from before. I will be around as always for support for your children and

    for parents too.

    Keep warm, Chezelle Conroy

  • Hi Parents/Guardians,

We are stating a gardening club this term and were hoping to get some tools for the children to use. If you have any old (but in good condition) gardening equipment you could donate, that would be most helpful. Items like; little spades and forks, stakes for climbers, gloves, etc.

You can drop them off to the school office.

    Thank you
