Valentine’s Day

On February 14, on Valentine’s Day all of the groups did a differ-ent party for the kids. The K-2 girls got to do pin the arrow on the heart, hitting a piñata, made Valentine’s Day cards and sacks to exchange with each other as well as getting popcorn and can-dy from the leaders. The K-2 boys made cards to exchange to each other where they had to write something nice about each other, as well as playing fun games and decorating cookies. The 3-5 groups got to watch a fun movie and play fun games. While the 6 and up groups were able to interact with each other, and play fun games. All the kids had a blast being able to do some-

thing different that is not what they usually do.

Silly Safari! On Wednesday, February 19th, Kimodo Kourtney came and interacted with the kids and gave them an amazing look into what Silly Safari is all about. She kept all of the children engaged and even had multiple volunteers go up and get a chance to pet the animals and even feed them! There was a particular animal, called a Kinkajou, that had everyone’s hearts warming up because of how cute it was. It even wrapped itself up to go back to sleep. This experience was amazing and the kids enjoyed every bit of it!

Service Project Every Wednesday we do a thing called Drama Club with Jessica Becker. On the 12th of February, the Wednesday before Valentine’s Day, we did some-thing a little different than what we do on our usual Drama Club Day. The kids made Valentine’s Day cards for the residents at Westridge nursing home. The kids had an amazing time and we’re sure it made the residents feel EXTRA special.

End of Basketball Season

The ISU women’s basketball team has their last two games in this first week of March. They will play against Bradley on Thursday the 5th and then play Illinois State on Saturday the 7th. The kids always look forward to supporting their home team and are so excited for the last two games. Emma Jean always makes it fun especially because she takes the girls out to eat and even gives them money for conces-sions!

Bowling Results We want to thank the 40 people that attend our bowling fundraiser and the others who sponsored kids for the bowling fundraiser! We had a great time at Vigo Bowl on a Sunday afternoon in February! Our award winners are Pastor Scott Johnson from Memorial UMC for the Men’s High Series with 623 pins, Mary Wade from Seelyville UMC for the Women’s High Series with 341 pins, Colton Wright from Vision Baptist Church for the Youth High Se-ries with 345 pins, and then Memorial UMC with the most in attendance! We appreciate Vigo Bowl for hosting our fundraiser and again for everyone who attended or sponsored our fundraiser! A great time was had by all who came out!

Did you know??

Last year, Trevor Ley won the award for the youth’s highest score, Hallie Pell won the award for the women’s highest score, Cody Steele won the men’s highest score, and Memorial UMC won

the traveling trophy for the most participants at the fundraiser.

Summer is coming! Even though spring is not even here yet, it is time for us at the center to begin planning for the summer program. We officially have applications in our front office for Summer Interns! We are looking to hire about 20 college students for 10 weeks over the course of the summer. They would work together with other leaders to be in charge of a group of kids. They would plan activi-ties, create crafts, supervise out on our playground and of course supervise on our field trips every Friday. They must be dedicated to working Monday through Friday from 8 am to 2 pm starting Tuesday May 26th, and ending July 31st. If you or someone you know is interested in joining our

staff this summer, please have them stop by the front office and pick up an application today!

Along with planning for summer, our Grumbling Tummies Café is beginning to collect items for our sack lunches. We have sack lunches every Friday with all of our field trips, and we need enough sack lunches to feed between 80 and 100 people. The items the Café is currently looking for is individual bags of chips, fruit snacks, pudding cups, fruit cups, individual bags of cookies and/or goldfish, granola bars, fruit roll-ups, gushers, and bologna. We also need bottled water, Ga-torade, and Juice pouches to keep our kids and staff hydrated on the hot summer days. These items would be greatly appreciated and would help us enjoy being away from the center and out in the community! We appreciate everyone who helps support our

summer program!

Staff Features One of the staff features this month is Caitlenn McAdams (right). She is a senior in the Social Work Program at Indiana State Universi-ty. She is working at 14th and Chestnut through her senior year in-ternship for her program. She really enjoys getting to know the chil-dren she is working with at the center and knowing that the girls feel comfortable coming to her if they need help with anything. What she is most excited about is her engagement and getting to spend time

with her family and friends planning their wedding next September.

Another staff feature we have is Sydney Ray (left). He is a junior majoring in Communication with a focus in media studies. He is working at 14th and Chestnut because he likes working with all the kids. He has been here for 5 years. He usually works in the sum-mers, however this is his first semester working through the school year. He tries to come back as much as possible because he not only enjoys working here, but he also loves working with the kids. What he is most looking for about his engagement is he is getting married in April, and he is looking forward to growing not only through Christ but also being able to

contribute back to the community and their church.

Writing Staff A lot goes into play when it comes to making and writing the newsletter for the center. We have three people who gather with Bill to make sure everything gets addressed. Heather helps to fill in Bill with what is happening that he may not notice. In addition she formats, and makes sure all the articles are completed. We also have two writers who help to make the newsletter a success. Memphis and Kaylee are two of our staff members who sit down every month with Bill and Heather and help to complete the newsletter. Each girl takes on about three articles to help com-

plete the newsletter. We are proud of our newsletter staff who help to make this a success.
