Dear Parents/ Carers,

I can’t quite believe that we are already three weeks into the Autumn term!

We have had our student council elections this week for Year 4, 5 and 6 and we look forward to our Year 3 children taking part next week. I have been amazed at the quality of presentations from the children as they present their manifestos. Each child presented to their whole year group of 170 children, explaining why they would make a great student council representative for their year group. That alone is an amazing achievement and I want to say a huge well done to those children. Look out for the results of the elections in our next newsletter where we will run a report on the individuals who make up the student council!

Could I also take this opportunity to remind everyone about the safety of all children when dropping off and picking up at the end of the day. As the evenings become darker, it is vital that children are fully aware of ‘road safety’ and keeping themselves safe.

Our Macmillan Coffee Morning last year was a wonderful success and we are hoping for the same this year. I look forward to seeing many of you at our event on 29th September!

With very best wishes,

Kelly Cursley

Acting Head of School

Recognition Express is delighted to have teamed up with the road safety charity Brake for the ninth year running to help promote Road Safety

Week to schools across the UK.

We are inviting all children to enter this competition by creating a banner design to help raise awareness about road safety. Children will bring

home an entry form. Please complete and return this to school no later than

Friday 6th October 2017. There will be twelve prize-winners, each of whom will have a large-scale

banner featuring their winning design printed for display outside their school during Road Safety Week (20th - 26th November 2017)

to raise awareness about the importance of driving slowly

In addition, winning schools will receive a high-visibility drawstring bag for each child and the pupil behind the winning design will receive a

special personalised award.

This year’s official Road Safety Week theme is Speed Down Save Lives which gives your budding artists plenty of scope to come up with a great

design.

We are looking for bold, eye catching designs. Remember your road safety banner could be displayed outside school premises, so make sure

it attracts attention!

Good luck and we look forward to seeing your entries.

COMPETITION TIME!

Year 6 have had an amazing start to the new school year studying World at War. They have found out about the causes of WW1 and how the war

changed the map of Europe. Last week the focus was on the war itself and what it would be like to be a soldier in the trenches. Using their knowledge

and empathy skills, Year 6 were asked to write a letter home from the trenches to their loved ones.

Take a look at some of the amazing letters they produced.

Inspired by our Year 6 topic World At War, Oliver from 6JG bought in some of his military collection. We have been discussing what life was like for soldiers in the trenches and how the government used to recruit people in to the military using propaganda and conscription. Oliver was able to explain the differences between the modern military and the military of WW1. He explained how these replicas are much easier to move in than the heavy, itchy uniforms they would have worn in World War one.

His friend Archie helped to model his beret.

Mrs Blackhurst and Mr Thomas set a science summer challenge! As some of you may be aware, the ingredients for making slime involved a detergent only found in Aldi. Unfortunately, Aldi has changed the ingredients in this detergent and therefore the slime recipe no longer works. Many of the recipes found online require an ingredient known as Borax. This is dangerous and has been banned from many products in the UK. Mrs Blackhurst and Mr Thomas were desperate to find a new way to make slime, using safe ingredients and thought that the TMA children would be up for the challenge. Fortunately, we have some new recipes and some competition winners.

Well done to Emilie 6DI, Julia 6RE and Shaan 6RE

This is Emilie’s winning recipe.

You will need: 235ml PVA glue 1 Teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda Gel food colouring 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution—must contain boric acid (for example Alcon opti-free express solution from Tesco) Method 1. Fill a clean bowl with the PVA glue. 2. Add 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda 3. Add a dollop of the gel food colouring. 4. Mix together really well 5. Next add 1 tablespoon of the contact lens solution. 6. Mix with a spoon until it starts becoming sticky. 7. Now remove from the bowl and knead it with your hands. Really

sticky at first but will become less sticky the more you knead it. 8. If it is still sticky add a few drops of

contact lens solution and knead a bit more

9. Be careful as too much will make it brittle

10. Have fun!

In Year 3, the children have been busy writing ‘What Am I?’ poems in our English lessons. We have looked at including lots of rhyme, adjectives and even some similes! Here are

some examples

PARKING AROUND TWO MILE ASH SCHOOL

We have recently received complaints regarding parents’ parking and the way parents are driving around Two Mile

Ash School. Please be respectful and consider our neighbours. It is not acceptable to park over residents’

driveways or to park on double yellow lines. The ’kiss and drop’ area behind the car parking spaces is for dropping and picking up only. Please do not leave cars unattended here.

Please remember to activate your ParentPay account.

If you require any assistance with this, please contact our finance team.

We now use ParentPay as our main form of communication with parents.
