Powell Mrs. C. Spence Principal Administrative Assistant NATIONAL DAY OF RECOGNITION FOR WORKERS KILLED OR INJURED ON THE JOB On Friday, April 28, the Richmond School District will support CUPE Local 716 by recognizing workers who were killed or injured on the job. At 11:00 a.m. there will be one minute of silence and the flag will fly at half-mast that day. TALENT SHOW Our talent show will be at 1:00 on Friday. It’s going to be a great show. Hope you can join us. PAC MEETING Our penultimate PAC meeting of the year will be on Wednesday, April 19. It’s not too late to come out and support your child and the school by getting involved. Open gym will be available for those students whose parents are attending the meeting. The meeting begins at 6:30 in our Multipurpose Room. JEANS DAY, MAY 4 Jeans Day™ is a fun and easy way to show your support for BC Children’s Hospital. Students, staff and parents can buy Jeans Day Buttons at 8:30 a.m. on MAY 2 to MAY 4 or until they last. Then, please wear your denims on MAY 4 to show your support for BC Children’s Hospital. TRACK AND FIELD Our Track and Field day is set for Tuesday, May 2. We need all Cyclones to do a sun dance so we’ll have good weather on that day J. Our philosophy is that all students in Grades 3 – 7 who wish to participate will participate. We can only put four students per event and students are only allowed to be in four events (five on rare occasions). To participate, students must show good sportsmanship and co-operation. On track day, we will require parent drivers and parent volunteers for supervision, especially of our Grade 3s who will be attending for the first time. A notice has gone home today for permission and volunteers. Please return this to school no later than April 25 so we have time to co-ordinate students and drivers. On track day, students should dress in layers (it can be very windy and chilly at the track) and need to bring a water bottle, healthy lunch and snacks and sunscreen. Students should come to school prepared to go to the meet even if the weather looks iffy. CHANGE TO REGISTRATION REGULATIONS Due to substantial changes caused by the court case victory, many schools will be at capacity and beyond for September as class sizes are reduced. For this reason, registrations will be accepted to neighbourhood schools on a first come, first serve basis. Students will no longer be guaranteed a place in their neighbourhood school if they register before a certain date. If you know of anyone who needs to register a kindergartener, or who will be moving in the next couple of months, please advise them to register as soon as they possible can.
