AAA Word From the Pastor Fr. Rafferty's niece, Elizabeth, extends her sincere thanks and appreciation to all parishioners for your kind words of sym-pathy and support last week. She is also grateful for your prayers and the Masses offered by parishioners and friends of Fr. Rafferty. My thanks and appreciation, too, to all for your visits during the wake and your presence and participation at the Vigil Mass and the Funeral Mass. Let us continue to pray that Fr. Rafferty was received into Heaven with these words from Jesus, "Well done, good and faithful servant. ... Inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the beginning of time." Eternal rest, grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen. Come and enjoy one another's company at the International Celebration on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Holy Name of Jesus Church beginning with the 5:15 Mass concelebrated by Father Damian (and the parishioners of the Korean Catho-lic Apostolate), Father John (and the parishioners of St. Mary's Siro-Malabar Church), and Fr. Bauhoff (and the parishion-ers of Holy Name of Jesus). A sumptuous buffet will follow in the Parish Hall to celebrate and enjoy one another's com-pany. See the announcement and response form printed elsewhere in the bulletin. Hope to see you at the dinner. Remember, you can easily donate electronically to Holy Name of Jesus Church using charge cards, debit cards etc. Please visit the parish website www.hnjchurch.net. Rockville Centre Bishop John O. Barres released a pastoral letter to the people of God entitled, “Ya Gotta Believe!” Cop-ies of the pastoral letter are available as you leave Church today. If you have ever puzzled over the Book of Revelation, come hear scripture scholar Bishop Emil Wcela’s talk “The Book of Revelation and Apocalyptic Literature: Hope in the Battle between Good and Evil” on Sunday, October 27 at 2 PM. Bish-op Wcela’s presentation is part of the free Book Talk series in the library of the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, 440 West Neck Road, Huntington. No admission charge or reservations necessary; refreshments will be served. Kellenberg Memorial Reunions for the class of 1989 (30 year) will be held on Saturday, October 25 beginning with Mass at 6 PM followed by a private cocktail party from 7 to 10 PM. Cost is $65 for those preregistered by October 22. Walk-ins at the door will be $80. The class of 1994 will celebrate their 25 year reunion on Saturday November 2 with the same schedule and costs. Visit www.kellenberg.com/alumni for more information and to register. Consider supporting the Sisters annual gala being held on October 25 at the Crest Hollow Country Club by purchasing a 50/50 raffle ticket ($50 each or 5/$200), purchasing a journal ad or bidding on one of their silent auction items. For more information, please contact Susan Jappell at (631)-842-6000 ext. 246 St. Anthony’s High School (275 Wolf Hill Road in South Huntington) will be hosting their annual Christmas Craft and Ven-
dor Fair on Saturday, November 2 from 10 AM to 4 PM with over 200 vendors. Come enjoy food, shopping and raffles.

November 2 is All Soul’s Day. Each year, many parishes have an All Soul’s Novena which consists of nine Masses of-fered for relatives and friends who have died. The Novena begins on Saturday, November 2 at the 5:15 PM Mass and concludes with the 9 AM Mass on Monday, November 11
th. HNJ, like many parishes also has the practice of remember-
ing in a special way all those who have been buried from the parish during the past year. We will do this at the 5:15 PM Mass on Saturday, November 2. If you wish to have loved ones prayed for and remembered in the Novena of Masses, please return your All Soul’s Novena Envelopes as soon as possible. The envelopes can be placed in the basket along with your weekly donation to the Church or dropped off or mailed to the Church office. October is dedicated to our Blessed Mother and is also known as Respect Life Month. Why not consider praying a beauti-ful prayer composed by St. John Paul II: O Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living, to you do we entrust the cause of life Look down, O Mother,
upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born, of the poor whose lives are made difficult, of men and women
who are victims of brutal violence, of the elderly and the sick killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy. Grant that
all who believe in your Son may proclaim the Gospel of life with honesty and love to the people of our time. Obtain for
them the grace to accept that Gospel as a gift ever new, the joy of celebrating it with gratitude throughout their lives and
the courage to bear witness to it resolutely, in order to build, together with all people of good will, the civilization of truth
and love, to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life.

FOCUS: Today’s Gospel and first reading remind us
that God often acts through people we easily dismiss.
For the times we have done that, we ask God’s
pardon. In the first reading, a man receives a healing in his flesh. But there is also healing within his heart. In the second reading, Paul assures us of God’s love. The Lord remains faithful eve3n if we do not. In the Gospel,
10 lepers are healed by Jesus of their affliction, but only
one is aware that he has received mercy beyond mercy. Published by Franciscan Media
