Thought for MeditationThe disciples went to Galilee, and there met the risen Christ on the mountain. We are told that they worshiped him, even though some doubted. Christ spoke with authority and gave them a task. Sincethen, people have ventured into all nations, teaching what Jesus commanded. As people continue tolabor in the shadow of Christs cross, others are enabled to delight in the radiance of its glory.

O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth! When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, whatare mortals that you care for them?Yet you have made them a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth!Let us worship God!

Call to ConfessionThe proof of Gods amazing love is this: while we were sinners Christ died for us. Because we havefaith in him, we dare to approach God with confidence. In faith and penitence, let us confess our sinbefore God and one another.

Prayer of ConfessionO God, when we are put to the test we do not quickly respond. If called upon to decide, we lackthe courage of faith. Confessing commitment, we confuse your will with our own. Seekingsecurity, we turn to devices that we control. Your voice comes from heaven to chasten anddiscipline. Your commandments Jesus proclaimed as the course we should take. Forgive uswhen we deviate from the truth you deliver, and increase our trust in you.

    Silent Prayer

The Gift of ForgivenessAs Jesus met his disciples on the mountain, he is with us today, even to the close of the age. Withauthority he commissions us to service; with redeeming love he sets us aright when we fall. All whohumbly approach him seeking forgiveness for their sins can live with assurance, since Christ died for usall. Thanks be to God; in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

About the Brief Statement of FaithIn 1983 the two largest Presbyterian churches in the United States reunited. The Plan for Reunioncalled for the preparation of a brief statement of the Reformed faith for possible inclusion in the Book of Confessions. This statement is therefore not intended to stand alone, apart from the other confessionsof our church. It does not pretend to be a complete list of all our beliefs, nor does it explain any of themin detail. It is designed to be confessed by the whole congregation in the setting of public worship, andit may also serve pastors and teachers as an aid to Christian instruction. It celebrates our rediscoverythat for all our undoubted diversity, we are bound together by a common faith and a common task.

The faith we confess unites us with the one, universal church. The most important beliefs of Presbyterians are those we share with other Christians, and especially with other evangelical Christianswho look to the Protestant Reformation as a renewal of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Diversity remains. But we are thankful that in our time the many churches are learning to accept, and even to affirm, diversity without divisiveness, since the whole counsel of God is more than the wisdom of anyindividual or any one tradition. The Spirit of Truth gives new light to the churches when they are willingto become pupils together of the Word of God. This statement therefore intends to confess the catholicfaith.

We are convinced that to the Reformed churches a distinctive vision of the catholic faith has beenentrusted for the good of the whole church. Accordingly, "A Brief Statement of Faith" includes the major themes of the Reformed tradition (such as those mentioned in the Book of Order, Form of Government,Chapter 2),2 without claiming them as our private possession, just as we ourselves hope to learn andto share the wisdom and insight given to traditions other than our own. And as a confession that seeksto be both catholic and Reformed, the statement (following the apostle's blessing in 2 Cor. 13:14) is atrinitarian confession in which the grace of Jesus Christ has first place as the foundation of our knowledge of God's sovereign love and our life together in the Holy Spirit.

No confession of faith looks merely to the past; every confession seeks to cast the light of a pricelessheritage on the needs of the present moment, and so to shape the future. Reformed confessions, inparticular, when necessary even reform the tradition itself in the light of the Word of God. From the first, the Reformed churches have insisted that the renewal of the church must become visible in thetransformation of human lives and societies. Hence "A Brief Statement of Faith" lifts up concerns thatcall most urgently for the church's attention in our time. The church is not a refuge from the world; anelect people is chosen for the blessing of the nations. A sound confession, therefore, proves itself as itnurtures commitment to the church's mission, and as the confessing church itself becomes the body bywhich Christ continues the blessing of his earthly ministry

A Friendly Reminder Unity Sunshine Pre-School is one of our tenants. They have been with us for a long time, but recentlythey have been experiencing problems with people coming into their space, using their equipment, andleaving food crumbs and juice marks on the tables. Since there are no doors to lock off their area fromthe rest of the church it is important that we not go into their area. If you see children or adults goingthrough the curtains that are hanging at the entrance to their space, please tell them that area is off limits and we are not to use it. Thanks to everyone for their help.
