Responsorial Psalm

Mon. Happy the people the Lord has chosen to be his own. Tue. The just will live in the presence of the Lord. Wed. I praise you, for I am wonderfully made. Thurs. Give thanks, for the Lord is good. Fri. See how the Lord blesses those who fear him. Sat. If you choose, you can make me clean.

In the midst of a storm, Jesus confronted the raging sea. With a single word he commanded wind and waves and exhorted his disciples to greater faith. This is not simply a

nice story told to reassure the timid. It is a gospel word for everyone who, having embarked with Jesus, discovers in the storm that the master seems to be asleep. Jesus initiated the crossing and, alone with his disciples, steered for the eastern shore of the lake. After a tiring day, he fell asleep and remained so into the very heart of the storm until his followers were driven to a frenzy. On a certain Friday, too, he will seem swallowed up in the sleep of death, and the faith of his friends will waver. In the boat, the disciples shook him frantically until he awoke. As if he were exorcising a demon, Jesus threatened the powers of death lashing the boat. Suddenly, the lake was calm but their hearts remained troubled. In quieting the storm, Jesus has stirred up a question: Who is this? “They cried to the Lord in their distress; from their straits he rescued them, He hushed the storm to a gentle breeze, and the billows of the sea were stilled” (Psalm 107:28-29). No doubt Mark was speaking to a persecuted, terrified Church, exhorting them to faith. How could they endure except by turning to the One whom the wind and sea obey? He is always there in the boat, even if he seems to be asleep. Caught as we are in the storm of our day we must have faith in spite of everything.

ONGOING MATTERS OF SPIRITUAL INTERESTS CORNER

FORUM: Love, Tolerance, and the Making of Distinctions (Re: Bruce Jenner) “Once the sense that there is objective good and evil has been attenuated, as it largely has been in our society, the only categories we have left are psychological ones. “ The rest of the article by Fr. Robert Barron is available at the Vestibule (Green in Colour).

THE EUCHARIST & FAITH, HOPE & CHARITY: “Renewed now with heavenly bread by which Faith is Nourished Hope Increased, and Charity Strengthened.” Post-communion Prayer for the First Sunday of Lent:

YOUNG CHILDREN’S BIBLE TIME: Every Sunday @ 11:00 am Mass. Please call Shalin at 604 514-9880 if you can help us with this.

REMINDER OF THE SCHOOL: Please make sure that the front door of the school is locked 15 minutes after your meeting is scheduled to begin. NB: Staff room door could be left open if meeting is there.

“Let us Pray to the Lord” Now a Book of Intentions is provided by the Shrine of Our Lady. You are invited to write in your intentions. These will be remembered at worship. Also, on a regular basis, these pages are burned, and mixed with the incense used at Mass. “Let my Prayer rise up to you O Lord, like incense”. Ps 141:2

COMMENDING OF THE SICK We commend to your prayers the sick of the parish, including, Betty Dechant, Howard Hunter, Hedwig Haner Kebritz, Venessa Miller and Daphne Nagle.

Thank you for your prayers. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Aurelio Piccini, whose funeral will be here on Thursday, June 25 at 10:30 am. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.

MAINTAINING A PRAYERFUL ENVIRONMENT

READERS: After the 1st reading, please pause or about 20 seconds before you begin the Responsorial Psalm. Thank you for helping us to let the Word of God sink in!

ALTAR SERVERS: Please NOW ring the bell 3 times at the elevation of the host and chalice (not at placing on the altar and genuflection).

MODEST SUMMER DRESS: This is just a reminder that we should all, out of respect for Jesus present in the Blessed Eucharist and respect for each other, to please be modest in your dress; no short shorts, no low-cut tops, no spaghetti strap tops, Spandex, etc. (What would Mother Mary advise?) Let us all elevate the true celebration that the Holy Mass is.

USHERS: Please OPEN the INSIDE VESTIBULE DOORS ONLY after the conclusion of Mass, i.e., when the priest blesses the altar servers at the font. Also, a few minutes later, when the congregation has exited, please close these doors. Thank you for your help.

USHERS Re Communion Time:- Please assist people to place themselves in front of the bench on the 2 transept sides – rather than “concerning” about the front rails. Thank you. When approaching the rail, a spiritual “Rule of Thumb”: Let the one who has already received, as they are a living and walking tabernacle, walk in front of you.

Please, note that the rooms off the Vestibule are NOT used on a “First come, first served” basis but rather for those who Really Need it, even after Mass has begun. Please be considerate! The Readings & Homily at Mass are not just some sharing of a history book to an assembly gathered; rather they are a “sacramental” event where Our Lord speaks in the Present Moment to his people that he has “summoned before” him. As these need to be heard with clarity, we request that parents bring their child to the vestibule rooms when they “chatter”. Thank you.

PARISH CENTRE SUMMER USE: Attention Parish Groups: Please be advised that the Parish Centre is NOT available for use in July and August. Sunday’s Coffee and Donuts and monthly “Come to the Table”, however, will continue to occur in the Centre these months. The School is available these months by the usual one month’s notice given to the Parish Office. Thank you for your help.

Stewardship Reflection “He said to them, ‘Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?” Mark 4:40. Most of us like to be in control. Loss of control makes us fearful. Try changing your perspective, let God be the pilot. There’s an old saying, “do you want to make God laugh? Tell him your plans.” Put your trust in God; He always has a better plan.

OUTSIDE THE PARISH VOCATION LIVE-IN: On the weekend of July 3-5, the Seminary of Christ the King is planning a weekend LIVE-IN for young men who are interested in the priesthood or the life of a religious brother. A flyer/application form is available in the vestibule with more details.

12th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SUNDAY, JUNE 21, 2015

Prayers of the Faithful: 1. For the Church, Peter’s vessel, beset by the storms of our restless

times, let us pray to the Lord. 2. For public servants who help administer national and local

government, let us pray to the Lord. 3. For those in industry and the military who work on ships and the

families who wait for them, let us pray to the Lord.

4. For men and women in our community whose presence we miss at the table of the Eucharist, let us pray to the Lord.

5. That our young people thoughtfully consider a vocation to the

Priesthood or Consecrated Life, let us pray to the Lord. 6. For the protection of innocent human life from conception to its

natural end, let us pray to the Lord. 7. For the intentions close to our heart (pause for 5 seconds), let us

pray to the Lord.
