TODAY’S READINGS: This reading from Luke’s gospel is the passage

most often proclaimed at the dedication of a church

building or at the annual celebration of that event.

Catholics have traditionally termed their worship

spaces the “house of God”. The story of Zacchaeus

teaches us the authentic meaning of that title. The church building

is the “house of God” only when the assembly there gathered is a

community continually called to conversion by the experience of

Jesus present among them at table. There is no recorded instance

of Jesus refusing an invitation to share food and drink. On this

occasion he even invites himself. More surprisingly, in the midst of

a city of “true believers” he chooses the house of an outcast. But

this outcast has gone out of his way to catch a glimpse of Jesus.

The table is the privileged place of conversion and reconciliation. In

sharing food and drink with the source of all life, Zacchaeus comes

to a deeper sense of his own sin than he would ever know in an

introspective examination of conscience. Thus does salvation come

to his house and ours

Wisdom from the Saints:

“Late have I loved you, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new, late have I loved you!” -St. Augustine

“Eat my flesh,’ [Jesus] says, ‘and drink my blood.’ The Lord supplies us with these intimate nutrients, he delivers over his flesh and pours out his blood, and nothing is lacking for the growth of his children.” - St. Clement of Alexandria

“The nation doesn’t simply need what we have. It needs what we are.” -St. Therese Benedicta (Edith Stein)

“Christ said, “I am the Truth”; he did not say “I am the custom.” -St. Toribio

“You cannot be half a saint; you must be a whole saint or no saint at all.” -St. Therese of Lisieux

St. Michael the Archangel,

defend us in battle. Be our defence against the

wickedness and snares of the Devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,

and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts,

by the power of God, thrust into hell, Satan, and all the evil spirits,

who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.

SAFETY

Parking: Attention All Parishioners: Diligent care needs to be taken to where you park, namely, only in designated parking stalls. Unfortunately, (usually after Mass has begun) some park in driveways where it is marked “NO PARKING”! These driveways are required to be free at all times for Emergency Vehicles!! Generally, there are always some stalls vacant at the back of the school entrance by the southwest Fraser Street gates. Also, some people even find it helpful to park at Centennial Pool across Shaughnessy Street and walk (also easier then to exit!). In any case, how we park and drive is to reflect our Faith, e.g., if you have a rosary hanging from your inside mirror, we would want you to show Christian Courtesy at all times and not give Christianity a bad name!!

Stewardship Reflection 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time

“But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the

Lord, ‘Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I

will give to the poor, and if I extorted anything

from anyone I shall repay it four times over.' "

(Luke 19:8) We are all called to gratefully give back to the Lord in proportion to the blessings we have been given. This means everyone isn’t called to give the same amount, but is called to give equal sacrifice. No amount is too small or insignificant! Open your heart, how is God calling you to be more generous with your financial resources and possessions?

Knights Corner

Pancake Breakfast today, Nov.3, with the proceeds going to the Fall Fair.

Also at this year’s Fall Fair on November 16, the Knights will be hosting a concession with the theme of “Tail Gate Party”. Please support the Parish Fall Fair. New Member Drive Weekend of Nov.16/17

New Members Welcome: Do you know someone who is considering joining the Knights of Columbus? Please contact Grand Knight Bob Jones with the name and phone number for follow up. Or send the prospective member this link so he can receive an invitation to join from Supreme: https://info.kofc.org/BC-Landing-Page-Council-9125_Landingpage.html Or encourage him to visit www.kofc.org/joinus to join on-line.

OUTSIDE THE PARISH

On the weekend of November 15 - 17, there will be a Vocation Live-In for boys or young men interested in the priesthood or the consecrated life, at the Seminary of Christ the King, Mission, BC. For more information, call 604-826-8975.
