SUNDAY REFLECTION High-Rise
"Rise up in splendor! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you." —Isaiah 60:1
On every Epiphany, the Lord commands us to "rise up in splendor," to put the light of our lives in Christ on the lampstand to give light to all in darkness (see Lk 8:16). We must let our "little light shine" and let the world know the true message of Christmas — that Jesus became a human being, was born, died on a cross, and rose from the dead to save us.
Before we rise up, we must see two things. First, we must see what God has done for us, His glory shining on us (Is 60:2). Then, we must see what sin and Satan have done to the world, for "darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples" (Is 60:2). When we see the grace, we've received and the deadly darkness of the world, we know we have the responsibility and the power to rise up. "For God, Who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' has shone in our hearts, that we in turn might make known the glory of God shining on the face of Christ" (2 Cor 4:6).
To rise, we must see. To see, we must repent. On this greatest day of the Christmas season, let's give Jesus three gifts — not gold, frankincense, and myrrh, but repentance, seeing, and rising. Jesus gave us the gift of His birth. May we give Him the gift of new birth for many in darkness.
One Bread, One Body
REFLEXIÓN DOMINICAL Rascacielos
"¡Levántate, resplandece, porque llega tu luz y la gloria del Señor brilla sobre ti!" (Isaías 60:1).
En cada Epifanía, el Señor nos manda a "Levántate, brilla," para poner la luz de nuestras vidas en Cristo sobre un candelabro para dar luz a todos en la oscuridad (ver Lc 8:16). Debemos dejar que nuestra "pequeña luz brille", y que el mundo conozca el verdadero mensaje de Navidad — que Jesús se convirtió en un ser humano, nació, murió en una cruz y resucitó de entre los muertos para salvarnos.
Antes de levantarnos, debemos ver dos cosas. Primero, ver lo que Dios ha hecho por nosotros, Su gloria brillando sobre nosotros (Is 60, 2). Luego, tenemos que ver lo que el pecado y Satanás han hecho al mundo, "porque las tinieblas cubren la tierra y una densa oscuridad, a las naciones" (Is 60: 2). Cuando vemos la gracia que hemos recibido y la oscuridad mortal del mundo, sabemos que tenemos la responsabilidad y el poder para levantarnos. "Porque el mismo Dios que dijo: «Brille la luz en medio de las tinieblas», es el que hizo brillar su luz en nuestros corazones para que resplandezca el conocimiento de la gloria de Dios, reflejada en el rostro de Cristo" (2 Co 4:6).
Para ascender, tenemos que ver. Para ver, debemos arrepentirnos. En este día gran día de la temporada de Navidad, vamos a darle a Jesús tres regalos — no oro, incienso y mirra, pero arrepentimiento, visión y ascensión. Jesús nos dio el don de su nacimiento. Podemos darle el don del nuevo nacimiento para muchos en la oscuridad.
Un Pan, Un Cuerpo
Our Faith Catechism of the Catholic Church 528 The Epiphany is the manifestation of Jesus as Messiah of Israel, Son of God and Savior of the world. The great feast of Epiphany celebrates the adoration of Jesus by the wise men (magi) from the East, together with his baptism in the Jordan and the wedding feast at Cana in Galilee. In the magi, representatives of the neighboring pagan religions, the Gospel sees the first-fruits of the nations, who welcome the good news of salvation through the Incarnation. The magi's coming to Jerusalem in order to pay homage to the king of the Jews shows that they seek in Israel, in the messianic light of the star of David, the one who will be king of the nations. Their coming means that pagans can discover Jesus and worship him as Son of God and Savior of the world only by turning towards the Jews and receiving from them the messianic promise as contained in the Old Testament. The Epiphany shows that "the full number of the nations" now takes its "place in the family of the patriarchs", and acquires Israelitica dignitas (is made "worthy of the heritage of Israel").

Con el bautismo de Jesús en el Jordán y las bodas de Caná, la Epifanía celebra la adoración de Jesús por unos magos venidos de Oriente. En estos magos, representantes de religiones paganas de pueblos vecinos, el Evangelio ve las primicias de las naciones que acogen, por la Encarnación, la Buena Nueva de la salvación. La llegada de los magos a Jerusalén para rendir homenaje al rey de los Judíos muestra que buscan en Israel, a la luz mesiánica de la estrella de David al que será el rey de las naciones. Su venida significa que los gentiles no pueden descubrir a Jesús y adorarle como Hijo de Dios y Salvador del mundo sino volviéndose hacia los judíos y recibiendo de ellos su promesa mesiánica tal como está contenida en el Antiguo Testamento. La Epifanía manifiesta que "la multitud de los gentiles entra en la familia de los patriarcas" y adquiere la Israelitica dignitas (la dignidad israelítica)

Las lecturas de hoy son una inspiración de gozo y de contemplación. El profeta Isaías nos invita a levantar los ojos y mirar a nuestro alrededor: "porque ha llegado tu luz y la gloria del Señor alborea sobre ti". Salmo: Se postrarán ante ti, Señor, todos los pueblos de la tierra. En su carta a los Efesios, San Pablo nos dice que estamos unidos en un cuerpo y por el evangelio somos “coherederos de la misma herencia, miembros del mismo cuerpo y partícipes de la misma promesa en Jesucristo”. En el evangelio de San Mateo, los magos son guiados por una estrella surgente hacia el lugar donde ha nacido un niño: “Al ver de nuevo la estrella, se llenaron de inmensa alegría. Entraron a la casa y vieron al niño con María, su madre, y postrándose, lo adoraron”.

The readings today are an inspiration for joy and contemplation. The Prophet Isaiah invites us to lift up our eyes and look about: “Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you.” Psalm: Lord, every nation on earth will adore you. In his letter to the Ephesians, St. Paul tells us we are united in one body and “are coheirs, members of the same body, and copartners in the promise in Christ through the gospel.” In St. Matthew’s gospel, the magi are guided by a rising star to where a child has been born: “They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage.”
