Our Mission:The Mission of every Catholic Parish was given it by Jesus Christ when he said to the eleven “All power in heaven and earth has beengiven to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the HolySpirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28: 26-30) Our mission is to spread the Gospel!
Feast of Mary, Mother of God On this, the octave day of Christmas, we celebrate Mary s motherhood. And since this day is the start of a New Year, we appropriately ask for peace, peace in our country, peace in the world, and peace in our own hearts. Surely, having undergone a very uncomfortable journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem, finding no place to stay, and giving birth to her Son, Mary had many reasons to be distracted and un-peaceful .She was bone-weary, surely. In pain, likely.
Ready to place her head on the straw and sleep the night away, probably. But first Mary had to see this face. His face . . . To be the first to whisper So this is what God looks like *Two years ago we offered a video series called Catholicism by Father (now Bishop) Robert Baron. In the New Year we will be showing another series by Father Baron called Pivotal Players. This series highlights six men and women who were significant in the life of the Church, beginning with St Francis of Assisi. Because the days are short and the weather sometimes nasty, this will be a daytime series on Fridays from 11:00 AM 1:00 PM beginning January 13th. If there is enough interest, we will consider an evening repeat in the Spring. If you are free during the day, please consider attending as one of your New Year sresolutions to increase your knowledge of your Faith. Happy New Year! HOMELESS INITIATIVEThanks to an overwhelming response and generosity,Our Lady of the Assumption Parish allowed the graceof God to work through us as we sheltered 16individuals last Wednesday night. The people weserved were so very thankful and appreciative!Thanks to all who donated and volunteered.We need additional volunteers to serve breakfastand to assist with the breakdown of the cots onThursday mornings from 5:30-7:30AM. If you areinterested please come to the Auditorium entrance. Our storage is at capacity so the only items we canaccept at this time are new men’s briefs (underwear)sizes L, XL and XXL. We also need men’s work boots,sizes 10 ½ through 14 and women’s warm boots sizes10 and 11. We heard there may be a sale at Kmartbuy one get one for $1, so if you are interested inmaking a donation, please check it out.

God of Mercy, we beg You now to protect in aspecial way, those who are defending us and theCountry we love. Amen
Today we are reminded of the words of blessingwhich Elizabeth spoke to the Virgin Mary:“Blessed are you among women, and blessed isthe fruit of your womb! And has this happenedto me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me?”(Lk 1:42-43).
Mary is so closely united to Jesus because she re-ceived from him the knowledge of the heart, theknowledge of faith, nourished by her experienceas a mother and by her close relationship with herSon. The Blessed Virgin is the woman of faithwho made room for God in her heart and in herplans; she is the believer capable of perceiving inthe gift of her Son the coming of that “fullness oftime” (Gal 4:4) in which God, by choosing thehumble path of human existence, entered per-sonally into the history of salvation. That is whyJesus cannot be understood without his Mother.
May this gentle and loving Mother obtain for usthe Lord’s blessing upon the entire human family.On this day we especially implore her intercessionthat the Lord may grant peace in our day, peacein hearts, peace in families, peace among the na-tions. Let us look to Mary, let us contemplate the HolyMother of God. I suggest that you all greet to-gether, just like those courageous people of Eph-esus, who cried out before their pastors whenthey entered Church: “Holy Mother of God!”What a beautiful greeting for our Mother.

MINISTRY OF CONSOLATION
The mission of the Ministry of Consolation is towalk with and support with loving care those whoare grieving for lost loved ones.
The Ministry of Consolation is looking for vol-unteers to help with funeral Mass prepara-tions.Duties would include:
-Contacting the bereaved family to set up a meeting.-Make decisions regarding readings, music and preparation of gifts that will take place during the Mass for thedeceased.-Contact one of the cake bakers.-Attend the funeral Mass.

INICJATYWA POMOCY DLA OSÓB BEZDOMNYCH7 grudnia 2016 - 29 marca 2017
Dzięki Waszej wspaniałej reakcji na inicjatywę pomocydla osób bezdomnych oraz Waszej hojności , w nocy ze środy na czwartek (w minionym tygodniu) w naszejParafii Matki Bożej Wniebowziętej znalazło schronienie16 osób bezdomnych, które były nam za to bardzowdzięczne. Dziękujemy wszystkim tym, którzy zgłosilichęć ofiarowania nam swojego czasu jako wolonta-riusze lub złożyli donacje.
Potrzebujemy więcej wolontariuszy do podawaniaśniadania oraz do pomocy przy składaniu łóżek wczwartkowe poranki w godz: 5:30-7:30. Osoby, któremogłyby pomóc, proszone są o przybycie do drzwiwejściowych audytorium.
Nasz magazyn zapełnił się i w związku z tym możemyobecnie przyjmować jedynie donacje w postaci nowejbielizny męskiej (briefs - underwear) w rozmiarach: L,XL oraz XXL. Potrzebujemy także męskich butówroboczych w rozmiarach od10 ½ do 14 oraz damskichciepłych butów (boots) w rozmiarach: 10 i 11. Słyszeliśmy, że w sklepach Kmart będzie można nabyćjedną parę w normalnej cenie , a drugą w cenie $1.Jeżeli chcielibyście złożyć donację, to prosimy Was osprawdzenie tej oferty.
Prosimy o dostarczanie powyższych donacji do BiuraPomocy Socjalnej w naszej parafii (Parish Outreach -115 Leonardo DaVinci Street, Copiague, NY) we wtorkii czwartki w godz: 10:00-12 :00 oraz 13:00-17:00.Można je także wkładać do pojemników (Outreach)ustawionych w kościele i audytorium.
