Our Lady of the Assumption School 2141 Walnut Avenue, Carmichael, CA 95608 (916) 489-8958 April 15, 2014 With Hands to Serve and Hearts to Love Holy Week is here, our most sacred week of the year. We experience Jesus with his disciples in the upper room, we are with him in the garden of Gethsemane, we are there at Calvary where he is crucified, and on Holy Saturday at the Easter Vigil we experience the joy of his resurrection. This Saturday night, we have 20 members of our parish receiving the Sacraments of Initiation, and most of them are OLA School Parents. The catechumen, who will receive all three sacraments, including baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation, are: Melinda Borg, Karina Eckard, Angela Escay, Kevin Goings, Scott Gordon, Kade Pascal, Jill Rockenstein, Andrea Rutledge, and Karan Terry. The Candidates who will receive First Eucharist and/or Confirmation are: Stephanie Bill, Jeff Caspar, Don Holliday, Jeff Incaudo, Aeisha Mastagni, Michael Morris, Robert Munn, Lara Saich, Nicholas Saich, Glenn Seitz, and Jeffrey Tverberg. Please pray for them as they prepare themselves for full membership into the Church. Participation in Holy Week is a gift. Next Week at OLA School Work Day Our groundskeeper is in need of a few extra hands to help move bark into the area around the new play structure. So, a School Work Day has been announced for Monday, April 21

st, beginning at 8:30am. If you are looking for a way to honor

your ONE Campaign service hour commitment and have some time to spare, this is a perfect opportunity for you to earn some hours. Or, perhaps you would just want to lend a helping hand. Either way, please bring a pair of work gloves to protect your hands and a well-labeled wheelbarrow and shovel, if you are able to do so. Hope to see you there. Shred Day 2014 THE TAX MAN COMETH…and so is SHRED DAY!! Mark your calendars for April 26

th! Now you can get rid of those OLD

TAX FILES you’ve been saving for SEVEN YEARS, OR MAYBE EVEN LONGER! AND, while you’re in a clean-out mood, why not get rid of some of those other old dust encrusted files or papers you’ve been hoarding, and benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. The purpose of Shred Day is to raise funds to support our mission of helping the poor within our parish boundaries. The suggested donation is $5.00 for a full paper grocery bag and $10.00 for an office box. You can even watch and listen as your old confidential files are chewed up by professional shredding equipment. It’s a whole lot easier and faster than doing the same thing one page at a time on your own shredder!

APRIL 26th, from 8:00am to noon, rain or shine! Spread the word to your friends.

Preschool News

Field Trip The preschool had a visit from the Tooth Fairy (aka Tamara Rosa) this week. We learned bout teeth brushing and how fairies travel during the day (they only have flying powers at night). We also learned about good foods to eat for our teeth and foods we should avoid.

Over the course of this 8 week study, you will discover how God speaks to you - even in the smallest encounters. All are welcome to join us on Thursday mornings, from 8:45-10:00, in St. Paul’s Room. Meditation Group Do you need a little quiet time and let the concerns of the world slip away? Then you may want to consider joining our Meditation Group each Monday evening at 7:00pm in the school library. Please contact the Parish Office if you would like more information. Adults Inquiring About Becoming Catholic Have you been thinking about becoming Catholic? Have you been missing something in your life? Are you looking for a faith community to belong to? Inquiry sessions for adults who are not Catholic are held on Monday evenings, from 6:30-8:00pm, in St. Anne’s Room (Parish Office area). These informal sessions provide an opportunity to begin exploring questions about what Catholics believe and how God may be calling you at this time in your life. For more information, please call Beth White at the Parish Office: 481-5115.
