Please arrive at 8:00am for an on-time 8:30am start. The sessions finish at 4:00pm. * Rotarians who have partially completed RLIs prior to today and wish to do individual parts can still do so on a weekend course. Contact PDG Ian Scott for registration by response to this email.”
Today’s BBQ was not a success, probably the less said the better.
The numbersof attendees was very low and not the sort of people to eat sausage sandwiches .
The Art Centre provided food and we sold very few sausage sandwiches. In future we won’t do this type again if they are providing food.
Many thanks to John Hartley, Peter Lefmann, Malcolm Pilcher, Ian Fraser, Di Wilkinson, and Peter Lewis for helping with the event.
PLEASE ALSO SEE THE ITEM ON PAGE 5 ABOUT THE THEATRE NIGHT AND THE SCREENING OF “MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS”.
President Peter.

NEXT MEETING - 14 NOVEMBER 2017
DG PETER WARDOfficial Club Visit
This will be the Official Visit to our Club by the District Governor Peter Ward.
Peter Ward joined the Rotary Club of The Entrance in 2004. The attraction at the time was the people he would be associating with and this still is the case. Peter has served as Club President first in 2007-8, again in 2011-12 and most recently in 2014-15. In 2015-16, Peter served as the Assistant Governor for the Central Coast. Highlights for Peter have been the variety of successful projects he has led ranging from fund raising to the refurbishment ofRotary Park to community engagement days. a common element has been partnering with the local council, community groups or another Rotary club. Peter held the office of Treasurer in 2005- 6, 2006-7, 2009-10 and 2010-11 and Vice President in 2008-9 and 2012-13. Peter has been Youth Director in 2010-11, 2013-14 and in 2014-15 and has supported RYPEN, RYLA, MUNA and RYDA (successfully obtaining funding for RYDA from the local council). in addition Peter has held chairs for membership in 2013-14 and Foundation 2005-06 and 2008-09. Peter is a centurion and a Paul Harris Fellow. Peter continues to work in information technology with a career spread across Australian and multinational companies having held local and Asia Pacific responsibilities for sales, operations and the occasional project. Peter sees his greatest challenge as preserving what makes our District great while meeting the needs of our beneficiaries, partners and newest members. Married to Anne, they have two adult sons, two cats, and together they have toured much of Australia. When time permits a quick trip into a national park or to a beach recharges their batteries. If Peter wasn’t actively “making a difference” via Rotary, he would rather be sailing.

The ticket costs will be $20.00 which includes sherry and nibbles being offered prior to the commencement of the Movie.
Members are encouraged to invite family and friends along. We need to get more than 200 people.

DISTRICT RESOLUTIONS FOR AGM
Clubs are invited to submit new Resolutions and or changes to the current Regulations to the Governance sub-Committee Chairman (PDG Ian Scott) by 28 October 2017 for consideration and circulation to other Clubs by 10 November 2017. Resolutions on any other matter the Club considers to be significant and warrant a vote at the AGM Resolutions session (at the AGM on 25 November 2017) may also be submitted. Proposals should identify the current Regulation if a change is sought, noting wording changes and submitted as a new proposal in a completed form.
New Resolutions and changes to Regulations must be approved by at least two-thirds of the members being present and entitled to vote. Clubs are also invited to submit any suggested changes to the Constitution following the same procedure that applies for the District Regulations.
Changes to the Constitution require a Special Resolution and must be approved by not less than 75% of the members being present and entitled to vote. All Resolutions should be accompanied with a rationale and signed off by the Proposer and a Seconder.

10 TIPS TO ATTRACT AND RETAIN QUALITY MEMBERS
By Tom Gump, president of the Rotary Club of Edina Morningside, Minnesota,
Since 1 July, 2016, my Rotary club has recruited and brought in 31 new members. Eleven of these new members are women and eight of them are under 40 years of age. The club has gone from being classified as a “medium” sized club in our district to being classified as a “large” club in just over nine months. How did this happen? Here’s our tips:
1. Know your club’s strengths. If you meet in the morning, you will probably be a good fit for a 9 to 5 employee. But if you meet at noon, you’re more likely to appeal to retirees or parents of school-age children. If someone doesn’t fit your format, recommend them to another club. They won’t forget you and may send you someone another day. Let all the clubs in your area know you are looking for members, and they may send you some that better fit your format than their own.
2. Keep a list of potential recruits. It doesn’t matter if it’s a paper list or if it’s kept on the desktop of your computer – it just makes you think about those people and others that may be a fit for your club.
3. Make recruiting the top priority in your club. You can’t do everything as a club president, and knowing that will give you some freedom to focus on the most important thing. Having new members – with new energy – will help you have more people to raise money for The Rotary Foundation, serve on your committees, and invite additional members/more smiling faces to your meetings and fun event. Let your members know this is the top priority so they can all help.
Rotary Club of Roseville Chase Bulletin 12
4. Create a letter that lists all the great things about your club. List your star members, the advantages of where your club meets, how many members it has, etc. Make sure to tailor the email/letter to the wants of any potential new member.
5. List potential areas of responsibilities. Potential members will want to know how they can fit in and what opportunities there are for serving.
6. Be persistent. There will be times that it takes literally a dozen requests to get someone to a meeting. Keep asking. They may come to a meeting, or tell you they can’t join now because they are too busy, or they aren’t interested in joining at the moment. These are all fine answers as long as you keep track of them and keep in touch. How many times did you have to be asked? (It was over a course of two years for me)
7. Talk about Rotary wherever you go. At church, temple, work, neighborhood gatherings, family gatherings, parties, etc. You’ll be amazed how easy it is after you practice for a while. Getting a lot of “no” answers built my confidence because it didn’t hurt as bad as I thought and most people were actually happy I asked, even if they responded negatively. It’s always a good time to recruit.
8. Celebrate when you get a new member. This gets the club excited about getting more members. Our club makes a poster of the individuals after they’ve been voted in and we put it in the front of the room at our next meeting. We do the same thing when we induct a new member.
9. Realize there is no finish-line. Even if you are at the size that your club wants to be, there are always reasons people leave. And new insights always benefit a club. You’re either growing or you’re dying.
10. Be vibrant. Wear a turkey suit before Thanksgiving (it’s only your dignity you stand to lose), wear a lanyard with lots of “flair”/Rotary pins (it gets people talking to you), make outrageous centerpieces for your meeting tables (it gets people talking to each other), greet people outside the building you are meeting in and hold the door open for them (it lets people know you care).
These really work. Try them out.
