on Monday, in celebration of

Easter. We wish you much joy in

the season of Easter and always!

Dear Friends in Christ, These last few days we have remembered how the Lord knelt and washed the feet of his disciples, teaching them that love and service are the hallmarks of true followers of Jesus. We have remembered how Jesus handed over his life in humility and was nailed to a cross for our sins and the sins of the world. And this Easter we remember how this incredible love God has for us has transformed our dying into new life. In the mystery and power of his love, Christ is able to create all things new. May the Lord create all our hearts anew so that we may proclaim the Good News of Easter with a deeper conviction of what God has done for each of us personally and for the world! With Easter Blessings! Fr. Mike

We are Easter People “Then they went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet over-joyed.” The two Marys were in for a surprise. They had come to do the ritual anointing of their dead friend’s body. But on their arrival, not only was there an earthquake, there was also an angel whose “appearance was like lightning” and whose “clothing was white as snow.” The brave guards were so scared they “became like dead men,” but the women managed to stay on their feet and hear the words of the angel. Guess what! Jesus isn’t here. He’s been raised from the dead. Now go share the good news! No wonder these women were feeling a mixture of emotions! They were frightened by these incredible supernatural events, but overjoyed that Jesus was alive again. Just imagine their joy when “Jesus met them on their way,” and they were able to embrace him and worship him. What a day! Now, we too join in the celebration of this day of all days. Every Easter, we recall these glorious events, but we do more than just remember. We also rejoice that our Lord is alive right now, that death and sin have been conquered forever, that the gates of heaven are open for us. The joy of Easter is not a nostalgic kind of happiness that only looks backwards. It is instead a call to rejoice in the gifts that we can enjoy today and in eternity. We may not have seen the angel, felt the earthquake, or kissed the feet of the risen Lord, but we are nonetheless the beneficiaries of this momentous event. We are an Easter people, a people in the hands of a loving God whose power can overcome all the terrible threats and trials of existence with the amazing gift of eternal life. —Cycles of Faith

Mass Intentions Weekly Events at St. Didacus

Do you put God first in all things? Possessions, money, power, ego can easily become gods to many of us. Do a quick check of what is important to you. Is God at the very top of the list? If not, your priorities need to be re-adjusted. Don’t let earthly things become a god before God.

Alleluia! Christ is risen! And that is only the beginning, though in itself it would have been wonderful enough. By the victory Jesus won for us through his death and resurrection, we are united to him in the glory of his

resurrected life. This is far more than any of us would have dreamed or imagined.

Encountering God Recent scholarship concerning the origins of Christianity indicates that from the earliest days of the Christian community its members were making bold claims concern-ing the identity of Jesus, claiming for him a role in salvation that could only be true of God. An earlier generation of scholars had tended to think that the identification of Jesus with God was something that developed only gradually within Christianity, but this seems not to be the case. From the outset, Christians apparently sought to affirm the divine status of Jesus. This raises the question of what possibility could have led the first generation of Christians, almost all of whom were Jewish, to identify Jesus of Nazareth with the God who made a covenant with Abraham and his descendants, who freed the Israelites from captivity in Egypt, and who promised through the prophets to bless all the families of nations. The answer in the New Testament is unambiguous. It was the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. This was the sign that Jesus had done what only God could do—break the power of sin and death. It is from this event that all of our beliefs about Jesus flow: that he is “God from God, light from light...begotten not made, consubstantial with the Father.” All of these phrases are different ways of affirming that the Resurrection has revealed Jesus as Lord of life and death. The Resurrection tells us something about Jesus, but it also tells us something about the God whom we encounter in the person of Jesus. The God we know in Jesus Christ is a God who is love, a love that is more powerful than our sin, a love that can triumph over death, a love that seeks to share itself with us so that we too can triumph over sin and death. This is the message of Easter that we are called to share. —Living the Word

Early on Easter morning some women went to the tomb and saw that Jesus’ body

was gone! Can you help the

women find their way to the tomb?

Our forty days of fasting have lead us to fifty days of feasting: “The fifty days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost are celebrated in joyful exultation as one feast day, or better as one ‘great Sunday.’ These above all others are the days for the singing of the Alleluia!” (Universal Norms, 22)

P. Mike
