The following letter was written by the Senior Class and reviewed by the high school faculty and administration. It was accepted today and will go into effect tomorrow, Sept. 27, 2013.

Dear Island School Administration,The senior class of 2014 believes that our demonstration of strong, consistent work ethic and respect for Island School, its faculty and campus has earned the following senior privileges:

• Formal Dress Monday to Friday: This permits the senior class to choose between wearing normal Island School attire or wear collared shirts, polo’s, button down shirts, dresses, blouses and college wear as school attire. Clothing that contains or displays any vulgar imagery, inappropriate language, or clothing that violates the Island Student Handbook dress code will not be permitted to be worn at school.

• Casual Monday: This entitles the senior class to wear any clothing that is permissible under the rules of the Island School Student Handbook dress code, with the exception of the required Island School Logo.

• Signing Out: Seniors will only be allowed to sign out of a study hall or during lunch break. A student with a study hall during first period will be allowed sign in to school by the beginning of the following non-study hall period without receiving a tardy. Seniors are still required to attend all class and general meetings and any school related meetings. Seniors will be allowed to use their authorized vehicles to leave campus while they are signed out.

• The senior class secretary will request a weekly update of tardies received by the senior class from the faculty and will inform the students during the weekly class meetings who have been put on probation of their infractions and their punishments. The secretary will also talk to the faculty and report on dress code violations and punishments.

If a student …… …... Then privileges shall be/student willreceives more than three tardies for a single class, …… prohibited for one week.receives six tardies for all classes combined, …… prohibited for one week.receives another tardy during the one week probation, …… prohibited for two weeks, which shall begin at the end of the first week of probation.receives another tardy during the two week probation, …… revoked, and a meeting will be set up with the administration to discuss privileges.breaks dress code, …… receive a warning, and be asked to change.receives a second warning in the same day or same …… prohibited for one week.week as the initial warning, receive a warning during their one week probation, …… prohibited for two weeks, which shall begin at the end of the first week of probation.receives a third warning in the same day or week as …… revoked, and a meeting will be set up with the the initial warning, administration to discuss privileges.receives a warning during the two week probation, …… revoked, and a meeting will be set up with the administration to discuss privileges.has a letter grade of C- or below in any class, …… shall have the “Signing Out” privilege taken away. until the grade is brought up and confirmed by the teacher. The grades will be checked at midterms and finals and may be brought to the administration’s attention by a teacher at any time.

All seniors must continue to be respectful and behave appropriately in order to maintain their privileges. If a student is disrespectful or does not behave appropriately, it will be left to the faculty and administration to decide how the students privileges will be effected.

Pre-Privileges Tardies: The administration will decide which students will be allowed to start with no tardies counting against them and which students will need to have a meeting to discuss their tardies and decide if they deserve their privileges or not.
