* BREAKING NEWS *

The future of our faith lies with our

children. A solid parish based Religious

Education program alone with parents

ensures a strong Catholic foundation for

our future. Our parish programs are

blessed with volunteer teachers and

committed parents who heed Jesus’

command to evangelize. Whether you

have children or not, you should recognize and thank these dedicated

volunteers and parents.

We are now at a critical time in our history. There are too many

distracting voices from too many sources calling families away from the

faith. Plus, we have the challenge of Covid-19 which in 5 months has

had an unprecedented affect on our church and families. Not an easy

time for anyone.

Therefore, the focus of faith formation must be on family catechesis.

Family Faith Formation exists for the purpose of spreading the Good

News of Christ to children and their parents in a shared partnership with

the parish. The ‘school model’ for parish programs like ours, one hour

per week, has limited effectiveness unless it has strong support from

parents. This year, children and their parents will meet twice per month

along with volunteer teachers (following co-vid protocols) and will

receive instruction on a theme based on the Catechism of the Catholic

Church.

This is a call to all parents to get involved. Follow us on Facebook, on

our Parish App and on our webpage to learn more. You may also call

the office to speak to Stella our Parish Catechetical Leader.

HELP: One more thing: I need a volunteer person, couple, or team

to coordinate and prepare our faith formation meetings at Holy

Rosary and St. Denis. These volunteers will be asked to prepare

the space, make sure we have supplies ready, and help with Co-vid

protocols prior and after the bi-monthly meetings.

Blessings,

Fr. Dave

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS

Being Human is to Doubt

Humans doubt. It’s what we do. We doubt ourselves and we doubt others.

Before any of us say anything about Peter’s doubting the words of Jesus that told him he could get out of his boat and walk on water, we need to get real with ourselves: How would I respond in the same situation? I remember when I was child taking swimming lessons. One day I simply tightened up my muscles and sank. The lifeguard pulled me up and asked what happened. I said I did not know. The truth is that I was sinking under the weight of my own doubt. I did not believe I could do what clearly, I was told I could. That was only in five feet of water in a pool! Now that I’m older, I can look back and laugh. But an adult, the swimming pool is life, and I would be lying if I said that there are no longer times I find myself sinking due to new doubts.

Much of our doubt comes about because of a lack of trust in God. We place our trust in material things, wealth, or imperfect people instead of the One who is worthy of our trust 100 percent of the time. Our stewardship is often hampered by our doubt that God will provide all that we need. If I give more, I may not have enough to survive! When we place all our trust in God, not only do we find that we have been given all we need – our doubt that cause us to sink in the pool of life fades away. We don’t suddenly become perfect in our trust, and there will be times when we find ourselves with concerns again. However, it is in those moments we find that He is still there, speaking the words we need to hear: “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” © LPi — Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

Question: What lessons should I learn from the Assumption of Mary? Answer: Growing in holiness is similar to training in a sport. We need someone to show us how we can live our faith well. Mary is a model of sanctity. She shows us how to be faithful to God’s will, living each day with confidence in God’s mercy and love. At the Nativity, in Jesus’ public ministry, and at the Crucifixion, we see her steadfast trust. She allows the Lord to use her life to accomplish his plan for her and for all of us. In the Preface of the Mass for the Assumption of Mary, we pray: “For today the Virgin Mother of God was assumed into heaven as the beginning and image of your Church’s coming to perfection and a sign of sure hope and comfort to your pilgrim people.”

It is this image of holiness that we strive to imitate. In the office, at home, or in our community, we look for signs of God’s grace that call us to an ever greater love of him and each other. A greater awareness of God is a sign of our conversion of heart that lives the lessons Mary teaches. © LPi

FAITH FORMATION REGISTRATION

All families are warmly welcomed to join A Family of Faith this

coming fall! The goals of this program are to encourage and equip

you to live and teach your children the Catholic Faith at home.

With one adult meeting and one family meeting each month, this

program will give you all the knowledge and tools you need to

bring your children up in the Faith. For more information, contact

Stella at 554.7086.

Registration for the upcoming Faith Formation program will be

done a little differently this year, because of the precautions for

COVID-19. The coordinator for each site will be contacting

families from last year and making arrangements for you to pick up

the forms that we need to begin planning for each site.

For first time families and families new to our parish, please

contact Stella at [email protected] or 554.7086

to make arrangements to pick up your forms.

Registration will remain open through August, classes will begin on

Sept. 13th. A letter will be going out to all families who have

registered, that will explain the protocols, policies and program for

the year, along with a calendar of meeting times and important

dates involving faith formation classes.

It is very important that we have a correct mailing address and

email.

St. Mary’s Church in Presque Isle is in need of

volunteers to ensure we can provide access to the

celebration of Mass to those in attendance at the

Church as well as to those who join us daily through

livestreaming.

We need ushers to greet people and provide

assistance with finding hand sanitizing stations and

seating, Saturday and Sunday. We are in need of

volunteers on Saturdays and Sundays to assist with

sanitizing the church after these masses.

We are urgently in need of people who can commit

to at least one day a week; Monday, Tuesday,

Wednesday and Friday to livestream the Mass at

St. Mary’s to the parishioners who are unable to

attend in person.

The Church Council of St. Mary’s asks for your

consideration regarding these roles. You may

contact Theresa Fowler at 764-3928 or by email at

[email protected] for more

information or to volunteer.

Thank you.

Greetings from the Missions Office!

As you know, we are in the middle of a global pandemic that has affected

not only those of us in the United States but our neighbors in towns and

villages around the world. As a result, we are unable to host in-person

missionary appeals in parishes this summer. Understanding, however, that

the need remains, the Diocese of Portland has decided to continue the

Mission Cooperative Plan, just in a new way.

The Society of African Missions (SMA) is a worldwide organization of

Catholic missionaries made up of priests, brothers, and laymen and

women. Their more than 1,000 missionaries hail from five continents and

joyfully witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout Africa and to

people of African descent wherever they are. They currently serve in 17

countries, both in Africa and in other parts of the world, including the United

States. The Diocese of Portland is pleased to have two SMA priests

assisting here.

For more than 160 years, members of the society have been committed to

evangelization, proclaiming the Gospel to those who have not yet heard it,

most especially the poor and abandoned.

In their work in Africa, they strive to answer questions of justice and peace,

particularly by engaging with street children, former child soldiers,

refugees, war-displaced people, Ebola victims, and people living with HIV

and AIDS. They also focus on human development through education and

health. SMA members seek to promote dialogue and cooperation with

African traditional religions and other beliefs and seek a better

understanding of Islam and evangelical Churches to work together in the

service of all.

Outside Africa, they are engaged in ministry with immigrants and

campaigning for better sharing of global resources.

If you would like to support the mission of the Society of African Missions,

please visit the Parish of the Precious Blood online giving page at the

link below.

We know the economic challenges resulting from the pandemic have made

it difficult for many to provide help at this time, but your generosity has

never been needed more. The struggles of our brothers and sisters in

Christ are great, and whatever you can give will be humbly appreciated by

our missionaries and those they serve.

Please consider a donation to your parish’s missionary group along with

your prayers for our missionaries, and may God bless you and keep you

well.

Jesus, I trust in You!
