Remember that the Church was born to go forth, that morning of Pentecost,” This statement by Pope Francis is a deep reminder that our duty as Catholics and Chrisans is to have the courage and proclaim the Gospel into the streets. He does not mean stand out on South Road with the Bible and scream “Jesus is King”. Our acons, lives and the way we treat one another is a form of evangelisaon to the public. But in saying this, we must have the ability to live out the Gospel message which is inspired by the Holy Spirit, live out charity, peace, love and mercy towards all people and always remain faithful to the Church and her teachings. All of these acons are forms evangelisaon. If we could all work together and have the qualies given by the Holy Spirit, what a wonderful Church we would really be! Pope Francis finished his speech with this, “Let yourselves be guided by the Holy Spirit, with that same freedom. And please, do not cage the Holy Spirit!”. Let us live up to what the Pope is saying, let us not cage the Holy Spirit up, bring Christs message to the streets like the first Pentecost and let us never be ashamed of our Catholic faith and take courage like those first called on the day of Pentecost! Mary Queen of Heaven, teach us to love Christ as you did. Give us the courage to say ‘Yes’ like you once did and be prepared to receive the giſt of the Holy Spirit as you did! PENTECOST I extend a special invitation to tonight's (Saturday) Holy Hour of Adoration in the church at 8:30pm with Fr Peter Zwaans. It will be Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in a candlelit setting with youth from the diocese providing reflections and readings to invite the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Today we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost. Today we recall the great day in which Jesus breathed the gift of the Holy Spirit to Mary and the Apostles in the upper room and they were given the courage to go out into the world to preach the good news to all nations.

Each year we have a birthday turning a year older, we have a cake to celebrate and if we’re lucky we might even get a gift. Birthdays are usually a day in which we receive rather than give. But in saying this, how wonderful is our God! That this day of Pentecost which is the Birthday of the Church, rather than receiving, Gods gives. He gives us, the church, the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, right judgment, piety, courage, fear of the Lord and fortitude and he gives it in abundance so that we may have the fullness of Christs promise after his Ascension.

For some reason, whenever I talk to Catholics, there is a blockage when we talk about the Holy Spirit. Personally I see that after our confirmation, we lock the Holy Spirit up in a cupboard and forget that it exists. If we only knew what a wonderful gift the spirit really is, our lives would be different as we would be able to use these 7 gifts mentioned above to get us through everyday life. His Holiness, Pope Francis said in an audience this week, “Go forth into the streets and evangelize, proclaim the Gospel. Remember that the Church was born to go forth, that morning of Pentecost,”

This statement by Pope Francis is a deep reminder that our duty as Catholics and Christians is to have the courage and proclaim the Gospel into the streets. He does not mean stand out on South Road with the Bible and scream “Jesus is King”. Our actions, lives and the way we treat one another is a form of evangelisation to the public. But in saying this, we must have the ability to live out the Gospel message which is inspired by the Holy Spirit, live out charity, peace, love and mercy towards all people and always remain faithful to the Church and her teachings. All of these actions are forms evangelisation. If we could all work together and have the qualities given by the Holy Spirit, what a wonderful Church we would really be!

Did you know?????????????????????????

Pentecost was originally a Jewish harvest festival which was celebrated 50 days after the Passover. It was one of the great “pilgrimage” festivals, which meant that people came to celebrate this time at the Temple. It was for this festival that so many pilgrims were present in Jerusalem on the day when the Spirit was manifested in the lives of the disciples.

The Christian feast of Pentecost is 50 days after Easter and is the culmination of the Lent-Easter Pentecost cycle

The Church teaches that the Holy Spirit brings both gifts and fruits to the faithful Coming to faith is not so much acquiring a new set of beliefs about God as it is discovering God’s existence within the realities of our daily lives. The gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit help us to be more attuned to the actions of God in our lives and in our world, At Baptism, the Spirit comes upon the newly initiated Christian, and at Confirmation the Spire of God is renewed and confirmed in the faithful The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are: wisdom, understanding, counsel (right judgement), fortitude (courage), knowledge, piety (reverence), and fear (awe) of the Lord (CCC#1831) The Church lists 12 fruits of the Spirit: charity (love), joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control and chastity. (CCC#1832) Explore these gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit. How do you see them manifest in yourself and others? In what ways do we need to cultivate these gifts and fruits?

MORNING TEA SUNDAYS: Thank you to those people who have organised a roster for morning tea. This fellowship is a great opportunity after Mass but it is important that providing for the tea and coffee etc does not become a burden for the few. +Please contribute something towards the morning tea in the box provided. This will ensure enough coffee and tea and sugar is available each weekend.
