When I was in high school, I discovered an
old album in the back of a cabinet. I t was
dusty and fal l ing apart. I careful ly pul led i t
out and opened i t . I was instantly enthral led
by what I found —luggage tags, postcards,
photos stuck in with classic photo corners,
t ickets, love letters, and photos of my
then sixteen-year-old mom with her sister,
mother and grandmother.
I asked my mom about the album and
she told me about her 3-month adventure
through Europe. In 1954 this journey
involved ships not planes, postcards instead
of emails, and a slower way of experiencing
the world. Looking at those images thri l led
me and inst i l led a passion in me.
I didn’t real ize unti l years later, after my
own (but very dif ferent) adventure through
Europe and my complet ion of rather
unfulf i l l ing degree, that that passion I fel t
that day was for graphic design.
I rediscovered the old dusty album again
during my t ime at the Academy of Art, and
I real ized this heir loom object has been
instrumental in the direct ion I chose in l i fe.
This is my departure and arr ival into the
fascinat ing, passion-f i l led, inspir ing world
of graphic design. I can’t wait .

Extend a brand into the barbecue sauce
market. Create dif ferentiat ion between
f lavors and extension i tems.
Levi Strauss was an obvious choice because
of their or igin as a dry goods company and
their roots in San Francisco. Using vintage
broadsides from the gold rush era for
inspirat ion, I was able to honor the history
of the company. The greatest chal lenge was
working with such a variety of typefaces
and gett ing them to work as a unit .

To design the col lateral for a typography
conference that dealt with the issues
of learning disabi l i t ies. The conference
covered dyslexia, Asperger ’s Syndrome,
and attention defici t disorder.
The conference material is a typographic
expression of the chaos and confusion
of learning disabi l i t ies. The purpose of
the project was to raise awareness and
understanding of learning disabi l i t ies and
to encourage further research.

winery of our choosing. Make i t a unique
and contemporary label in the marketplace.
Show variat ion in the design of a low-t ier
and high-end label.
The Digging Man is a f ict i t ious label based
on a tradit ion started by my brother—
burying and then later unearthing a bott le
of wine to enjoy in nature. The company
is dedicated to keeping the wine as pure
and humble as possible without the
chemicals and contamination that comes
with conventional viniculture. In a world of
snooty wineries, i t is “down to earth.”

Brand and package a l ine of tonic water.
The goal was to create a packaging l ine that
would stand up against high-end l iquor.
This imagined brand, Antidote Tonic
Water was born out of the wicked
fascinat ion with poisonous potions: ones
that have the power to enchant the heart,
entrance the soul, and ensnare the mind.
One sip of this mystical tonic wi l l leave you
with a begui l l ing glow.

conference. The conference focuses
on breaking the stereotype of knit ters.
In order to capture a macrabre tone, I
used the Tale of Two Cit ies as inspirat ion.
By showcasing couture and experimental
techniques and materials, I was able to
show the edgy high-fashion side of knit t ing.
Knitt ing is not just for grandmas anymore.

Develop the identi ty and col lateral for a new
bar in the Marina distr ict of San Francisco.
During the renovations of this bar, a vintage
sign was discovered under the facade. I t
turns out the locat ion used to be a dist i l lery
founded in 1908. The owner decided
to name the bar after the dist i l lery and
the sign was kept to pay homage to the
locat ion’s past. My task was to recreate
the sign in a digi tal format and design the
col lateral to be cohesive with the style of
the sign and the bar.

system that would bring in a wider target
audience and make JCP the preferred store
of consumers. By updating the brand, i t

Redesign the packaging for J.C. Penney
to compete with Target by refreshing and
revital iz ing their brand system.
We created a l ine of home, bath and body
products that is high qual i ty, luxurious and
affordable. The l ine makes luxury more
accessible by using sustainable and long-
lasting materials, such as bamboo and metal.

A logo best represents a company when
the proper color palette and visual style
are used. For each mark, I did extensive
research in order to capture the spir i t
of the company.
