After President Sigrid opened the meeting, she invited a somewhat reluctant PP Kaka Singh to welcome the guests. We were joined at the meeting by RTN Ian Horner visiting us from the RC of Pantai Valley of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and RTN Angela Tng from RC Pandan Valley Singapore together with our guest speaker Ms Jorine Sim an Image & Etiquette consultant. In total we numbered 23 including our guests not forgetting one respected but infrequent RCRC member whom even President Sigrid struggled to remember, PP Joseph Foo. PP David Ong then swiftly proposed the toast to RI, and who shared details with members on the Charity Film Show fund raising event to be held at Lido 1 showing the James Bond Film “Spectre”. Following some lively discussion, the date of Tuesday, 24th of November at 9:30 pm was settled upon. President Sigrid then took the opportunity to remind everyone about the club’s signature project for the coming year where the club is planning to raise $20,000 to be applied as Educational Grants for disadvantaged children while working in conjunction with ISCOS. IPP Corina was next and she urged everyone to register on the Rotary Website as soon possible explaining in detail how quick and simple the process. RTN Pany then updated members on recent donations received for a previous speaker Tammy Durand Pomory and her organisation “ABCs and Rice.” He went on to explain a new initiative which is being promoted whereby for $500 per year a donor can take care of one child . A grand life changing deed for a very modest sum. PP Vincent has been one of the first RCRC

members to support this initiative. RTN Pany continued with an announcement of a wine tasting fund-raising event on the 29th of September for a Bali Project involving Daniel who has addressed the club on several occasions about this in the past. RTN Luis Coronado reminded us all about the Oktoberfest fellowship event next month, meanwhile the rest relaxed tucking into a tasty lunch which included Chopped chicken, Coleslaw, Penne with mushroom in tomato sauce, Roasted vegetables & potatoes, Fresh fruits and Strawberry delight with ivory chocolate. It was then over to RTN Judy Tan to introduce the speaker Ms. Jorine Sim, an Image & Etiquette consultant to talk on "Impress at first sight". Jorine entertained us all with a refreshing and light hearted overview of dress etiquette and the implications. Amongst other things she shared with us the secrets of warm and cool colours and IPP Corina lost no time in volunteering to be her assistant modelling an array of colours and shades to demonstrate what colours might suit a particular person or occasion. Finally RTN Geoff Hogg was called upon to give a brief vote of thanks. President Sigrid then closed the formal meeting at 2:05 pm while informal fellowship continued.

ROTARY’S GUIDING PRINCIPLES The Four Way Test

In 1932, Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor created The Four-Way Test. The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions: Of the things we think, say or do

1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL

and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all

concerned?

Object of Rotary The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

DG Philip Chong has requested all Rotarians to register as member of Rotary International (RI). The Rotary website provides very wide information about our Rotary moments and you are sure to find something of interest to you. I have volunteered to provide a simple guide on how to register: 1. https://www.rotary.org/myrotary/en

2. Click on Sign in/Register

When you receive the email from RI with temporary password, please click on the link and change your password. You have successfully registered! In order to achieve the 100% registration, I volunteer to do this for you. Please drop me an email at [email protected] and I will do it for you. Please forward the RI email to me so that I can change the password for you. I prefer to change the password for you because I know many Rotarians do not respond to such email promptly (like within one year) and therefore the registration is not confirmed.

The Rotaract Club of Raffles City held its 15th installation last Saturday, 19th of September at the Social Service Hub@ Chinatown Point. VP Aaron Tan was the Guest of Honour at the event. IPP Tan Kah Chuan passed over the baton to Charles Lee who has taken over as the President of the Rotaract Club of Raffles City for the Rotary year 2015/16. It was a “frightful” afternoon when the Rotaractors organized the handover ceremony. There were Rotaractors from the other clubs who were present at the event. After the ceremony there was a tea party organized for the Rotaractors, Rotarians and Interactor (Tampines Junior College) who were there to witness the event. Present from the Rotary Club of Raffles City were VP Aaron Tan, PP Ron Pereira and Rita and RTN Brian Tan.

It is our pleasure to announce Rotary’s annual World Polio Day kickoff event on 23 October in New York City. We'll use this occasion to shine a light on Rotary’s leadership in the fight that has brought us This Close to ending polio. The Livestream event, co-sponsored by UNICEF, will bring together our partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, government officials, and global health leaders from nongovernmental organizations and will mobilize more than 30,000 supporters. July and August brought great milestones in the polio eradication effort. For the first time in history, Nigeria -- then all of Africa -- marked one year with no new polio cases caused by the wild virus. We are closer to making good on our promise to end polio forever, but there's still work to be done. As we protect the progress made in Africa, we focus even more sharply on Afghanistan and Pakistan. Our World Polio Day kickoff event is our opportunity to update participants around the world on our progress and next steps and inspire them to share their voices, donate, or advocate for eradication as we near the finish line. We invite you to join us and watch the event live, starting at 18:30 New York time (UTC-4) or later -- a recording will be made available. We also ask you to raise awareness of our polio eradication effort in your own community and build a local audience for our World Polio Day event. Visit the End Polio Now website to download resources that can help you raise awareness and funds. Share this information with your Rotary clubs, districts, communities, and elected officials. Thirty years ago, we told the world what Rotary believes: that we can achieve the eradication of polio. Our dream is becoming reality. For every child, on World Polio Day, let’s push ahead to the reality of a polio-free world. Warm regards, Rotary International President K.R. Ravindran and Rotary Foundation Chair Ray Klinginsmith
