    PSYCHOLOGY OF MINDPSYCHOLOGY :

    The study of the soul or mind.The spirit or soul.

    a person's mental or moral or emotional nature.

    MIND :The human consciousness that originates in the brain

    and is manifested especially in thought, perception,emotion, will, memory, and imagination.

    Thought creates our psychological experience.

    Thinking is a voluntary function.

    Emotions indicate our level of psychologicalfunctioning and in particular

    Low moods are a sign that we are identifying withour thoughts , rather than witnessing them .

    However, a psychoanalytic theorist might tell youthat this is much more than a random accident.

    The psychoanalytic view holds that there areinner forces outside of your awareness that aredirecting your behavior. For example, a

    psychoanalyst might say that James misspokedue to unresolved feelings for his ex or perhapsbecause of misgivings about his newrelationship.

    The term psychoanalysis is used to refer tomany aspects of Freud s work and research,including Freudian therapy and the researchmethodology he used to develop his theories.Freud relied heavily upon his observations and

    case studies of his patients when he formedhis theory of personality development.

    According to Freud, the mind can be divided into twomain parts:

    The conscious mind includes everything that we areaware of. This is the aspect of our mental processing that wecan think and talk about rationally. A part of this includes ourmemory, which is not always part of consciousness but can beretrieved easily at any time and brought into our awareness.Freud called this ordinary memory the preconscious.

    The unconscious mind is a reservoir of feelings,thoughts, urges, and memories that outside of our consciousawareness. Most of the contents of the unconscious areunacceptable or unpleasant, such as feelings of pain, anxiety,or conflict. According to Freud, the unconscious continues toinfluence our behavior and experience, even though we areunaware of these underlying influences.
