Happy New Year! On behalf of the Board at the Parramatta Chamber of Commerce, we are excited to welcome 2016 and hope everyone had a great start to the New Year.

This year will undoubtedly be yet another eventful year. Parramatta and Western Sydney is undergoing so much change and development, and we are thrilled for what lies ahead in terms of growth and success.

We wanted to take this opportunity to inform you of our upcoming events for 2016. We thank you for your continued support.

Business After FiveThe Business After Five is a great networking function for all members and their guests. It is held on the first Tuesday of each Month.

These functions are sponsored by a Member Host in conjunction with the Parramatta Chamber. This allows our host to showcase/promote their venue or their product/services to the business community. At these events we dedicate a small amount of time to formalities. The President of the Chamber will make a few announcements including the formal welcoming of new members.

These typically attract around 130 to 150 attendees at each event. All new members are introduced by the Board. For guests this evening is about networking and meeting other businesses.

Business Before NineThe Business Before Nine is a morning event held 4-5 times a year typically seminar or presentation style but can be delivered in a number of ways subject to your product or service and your creativity. These events are usually presented over breakfast. This year they will be held in March, May, August and November.

eNRGy Networking and Referral GroupHave you joined?

State of the CityWe hold an annual State of the City Address with a presentation by the Lord Mayor of Parramatta. We are proud to present this year at the beautiful Oatlands House.

Charity Golf DayEach year in May we hold a Charity Golf Day, with proceeds from the Golf Day donated to a different charity each year – the focus being on charities based in Western Sydney.

Hole sponsorships and promotional opportunities available for our Charity Golf Day. This is coming up in May.

Christmas BBQ for the HomelessWe are proud to co-ordinate and host Christmas BBQ for the Homeless in July and December. Volunteers and Donations welcome. This is a wonderful initiative to show your commitment to community support.

We are able to put on a special lunch for the Homeless which includes pamper packs. The lunch and personal items will be shared with over 200 people.

Last year we were overwhelmed with businesses in and around Parramatta that donated their time as volunteers, food & beverages for the BBQ as well as fruit and vegies, snacks, personal items etc to enable the day to be a success.

WSABEFor the last 25 years, we have been proud to host the prestigious Western Sydney Awards for Business Excellence (WSABE). This major event will be held on 19 August. Speak to our Chamber office to discuss sponsorship, marketing and promotional opportunities.

2015 December Business After Five

Our last “Business After Five” for 2015 was kindly hosted by Parramatta Phoenix Chinese Restaurant. Over 140 local business people were in attendance.

Record crowd for Parramatta New Year’s EveParramatta welcomed the New Year in style with a record crowd of 65,000 people

enjoying festivities along the River Foreshore and at the Parade Ground, Old King’s

School.

There was plenty to keep revellers entertained with live performances across three

stages including fire tricks and circus stunts by Dauntless Movement Crew, a pyrotechnic

jet-ski display, amusement rides, food stalls and the largest fireworks display outside the

Sydney CBD.

“It was wonderful to see so many people turn out to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Parramatta – an event

that keeps getting bigger and better every year,” Lord Mayor of Parramatta Cr Paul Garrard said.

Parramatta Local Area Commander Superintendent Wayne Cox praised the behaviour

of the 65,000-strong crowd.

“It was a highly successful event for everyone involved. We really want to congratulate

the members of the community for their behaviour and the event planners that created

a great night for all. There were no arrests made on the night and it was a top-class,

family-friendly event,” Superintendent Cox said.

Cr Garrard said he too was impressed by the behaviour of the crowd and police efforts

to ensure a safe event.

“The event’s success re-affirms Parramatta as a family-friendly New Year’s Eve

destination,” he said.

“After an impressive welcome to 2016 our attention now turns to Australia Day - the

biggest event on our City’s calendar. Preparations are well underway for the 15 hours of

entertainment we have planned,” Cr Garrard said.
