Judging to commence at 7.45pm

Remind members to get their raffle tickets from Alf Filia price increase to $2.50 a strip the prizes are a

variety of well grown orchid plants & sundry items.

Please sign the attendance book.

The President Barry Kable declared the General Meeting open at 8pm. Welcome to Members, Visitors

& Judges.

Plant sales payments are not available tonight, Nick need more time to process them the show only fin-

ished yesterday afternoon.

Financial Report: Treasurer Nick Woolley presented the Financial Report for September 2016.

Balance Brought Fwd. $50,177.83

Income $ 449.59

Expenditure $ 1153.81

Cash Book Balance $49,468.61 (Copy of report was tabled)

607 people through the door, plants sales around $14,000,00. Not a great show, plant sales were down

but we didn’t have the plants to sell.

General Business:

Guest Societies tonight; Brisbane Orchid Society & Gold Coast & District Orchid Society.

Apologies from Gold Coast unable to attend. Barry asked Ken Haase to speak about Brisbane Orchid

society. They meet at the Progress Hall at Upper Mt Gravatt on the 4th Monday each month. One

show a year next show will be 1st & 2nd April 2017. Around about 60 members but have been

steadily building up. Facebook page get a few members from there, they do talks at Bunnings

Garden Clubs. They have a new grower group which meeting every 2 months. Try to give any

money raised back to the members.

Guest Societies for November will be Eastern District & Mt Coot-tha Day Orchid Societies.

The Spring show – Thank you to all who helped, especially in the Kitchen as Margaret ended

up in hospital the Tuesday before and was unable to there. We were all feed over the week-

end. Great benched display looked wonderful Barry said he was standing at the front of hall

and could not see back tables, good quality plant, thats what we want our visitor to see Oh

Wow, the show was a bit down in sales area, don’t know how we can fix this any ideals let me

know. We need our members to sell their orchids but also need to have flowering plants for the

public to buy. Everything went well with setup & judged on Friday. About 600 people through

the door.

Autumn Show will be 14th & 15th April 2017 only 2 days Good Friday & Easter Saturday.

Our next event will be the Christmas Party on Monday 5th December 2016 here at this hall

6.30pm for 7.00pm meal, cost $5 for members and $10 for non-members, note that it is the

first Monday night of the month, not our usual night as we can’t get in to the hall early on that

night. It will run much along the same lines as last year, it is good to come along and

enjoy the good food and company. Mini Show on night so don’t forget your plants,

also a rolling raffle bring a gift each. See Ann to book your place.

This year is almost over we don’t hold a January meeting so after December Christmas party

we get a month off, Barry said he for one was looking forward to a break, the last few months

have been very busy for many of us with other Societies shows.

There are only a few show left to be held, this week-end is busy with Redlands Bribie Island &

Boonah, then Species 22nd & 23rd, North Moreton 29th & 30th October and Pumicestone &

Tweed Orchid Fair 5th & 6th November.

Members can sell plants at monthly meeting –but you have to do it yourself, no commission

taken

Any Other Business: Barry welcomed two new members Tess & Harris that signed up at the show.

Tonight Guest Speaker: Stephen Cox spoke about his Tour of Japan, very interesting how some of the

orchid Nurseries are run over there.

Housing : Polycarbonate & Shade Cloth Covered cool house with fogging system and air Conditioning

under thermostat and humidistat Control to try to keep summer maximum of 30 ‘c high humidity plant

gets about 80% shade

Watering : Overhead sprinklers in late afternoon from October till April every 2-3 days reducing to

twice a week in winter in the morning .

Feeding Program : Horticultural Solutions HSO22 during summer months once per week changing to

HSO12 from April till September once per week.

Potting Medium : Sphagnum Moss in small plastic pot

Other Cultural Comments : Moss is kept evenly moist & not allowed to remain dry for long periods

Constantly high humidity with good air movement.
