The internet was my main form of research as it is such a large database of information, I was able to use the search engine Google through the internet in order to find existing CD covers/ magazine adverts and gain some inspiration through those designs in order to produce my own digipak. Being the editor of our music video, it was left to me to add effects and such to the music video so having the internet by my side enabled me to research tutorials allowing me to create a final edited product that was aesthetically appealing but at the same time not too overloaded with effects. The main effect we were hoping to insert within our video was colour edits instead of the whole video being black and white but as an amateur editor this proved too difficult for me to do so as a team we decided to leave it black and white.

In order to find inspiration for what we could base our music video on, we turned to video uploading website YouTube. YouTube allowed us to research existing music videos from all types of genres and also allowed us to scout for a potential artist to base our music video on. We stumbled upon an unknown artist by the name of Princess Landa who already had the song that we used on YouTube but there was no visual video for it, as one of our team members was already personally acquainted with Princess Landa we thought she would be the most time effective solution and as a team decided we should use her. In the shooting process, she proved to be a very unreliable figure and was never available for shooting but did allow us to use her song so we replaced her with an acting artist instead. YouTube was also the platform we used to upload our video onto and gain reviews from viewers. We also found the mainstream music video that we based our own music video on which was by reggae artist Sean Paul and the name of the song was ‘Watch Dem Roll’.

We used a digital video camera in the construction process of our music video in order to record it, due to the fact that none of us were accustomed to such equipment we decided to firstly play around with the camera and familiarise ourselves with the settings and think about what types of shots we could use when we start officially shooting. We used a tripod in order to make sure that the footage was clear and not shaking and for the first scene we decided to use three cameras which proved to be very time consuming so after that stuck with one camera. We recorded a multiple amount of times to ensure that we had enough footage when we start our editing process which required us to use more than one DV tape (picture shown above).

Final Cut Pro was the program I used to edit our music video with, it is a very complex program so as with the digital video cameras I decided to take a few training sessions in order to familiarise myself with the program to ensure that our final product was as we wanted. As me and the rest of the members of my team each had our own ideas of how we wanted the music video to be edited, we decided to edit the music video as a team in order to ensure all our ideas would be heard and we could create a product that was approved by all of us. We had to log and capture the footage we shot from the DV tapes and then sync the visuals on the screen with the audio of the song which proved to be very time consuming so required us to stay in the editing room more than we had hoped. We created the black and white effect which was the main effect for our music video using Final Cut Pro and also added other effects such as Dazzle, we have also used a numerous amount of straight cuts within our music video which is a convention regularly visible in reggae/dancehall music videos so we decided to implement this convention within our own music video.

I used an online blog website by the name of Blogger in order to record the overall process of creating our music video, it was much easier to electronically record the process of creating the digipak rather than writing it all up using paper and pen. Nonetheless I did experience a few difficulties when recording what happened in my first few blog posts such as uploading our storyboard as the image was too large but this was overcome as I started to familiarise myself with the functions of the blog.

Powerpoint is the program I am using to record my evaluation on, I am very familiar with the software as I use it quite regularly so therefore I do not experience any difficulties with using this program. Using an electronic program to record my evaluation enables me to upload it onto my blog using the online website SlideShare.
