What is Inpho
Trimble Inpho software suite is a comprehensive workflow solution enabling photogrammetrists to rapidly produce highly accurate and quality deliverables for their clients. The modular offering provides the ultimate flexibility depending on whether large frame aerial imagery, LiDAR or Satellite data is being used. Highly automated and refined workflows deliver outstanding productivity to generate point clouds, DTM/DSM’s, ortho-mosaics and other highly valuable mapping products.
What’s new in Inpho 9.1
Inpho version 9 combines the classical photogrammetric software capabilities with modern 3D workflows. The suite includes two new capabilities:
MATCH-3DX software for the creation of rich 3D point clouds and true ortho mosaics; enabling the extraction of higher quality and precise information.
MATCH-3DX Meshing add-on for the generation of photorealistic textured meshes; providing highly visual 3D representations of the environment (e.g. 3D City models).
MATCH-3DX offers the complete functionality of MATCH-T DSM.
The new modules, plus continued enhancements, further establishes Inpho as a comprehensive software suite available for the production of photogrammetric-based deliverables.
True Orthophoto production
The new MATCH-3DX module in Inpho version 9 incorporates state-of-the-art Semi Global Matching (SGM) techniques that enable photogrammetrists to reach a new level of quality and precision when generating large scale point clouds and true orthophotos from aerial (frame) images. Through the high resolution data sets, photogrammetrists can more clearly identify edges of surfaces, such as building corners and roof lines, enabling the extraction of highly precise measurements, CAD objects or Digital Surface Models (DSM). The new True Orthophoto capability ensures that each image pixel is directly related to the terrain height, simplifying mapping and the overlay of GIS data, especially for urban mapping applications.

Photorealistic Meshes
With the new MATCH-3DX Meshing add-on, photogrammetrists can generate highly accurate, photorealistic textured meshes that enable non-professionals to easily navigate and understand the real world environment. The 3D textured meshes provide an efficient data type for use within industry leading GIS systems and web-based 3D visualization services—often used for 3D city modeling, construction simulation and gaming applications.
Multithreaded Photogrammetry
The general trend in CPU development has moved from quad- or hex-core to 24 (Intel) or 32 (AMD) cores chips - parallel programming techniques can benefit from multiple cores directly. Inpho version 9 utilize the power of current workstations by using up to 24 CPU cores in parallel (was 16 threads before). This reduced the overall processing time allowing users to faster produce the results.
GPU processing in the first version of Inpho 9 MATCH-3DX is experimental and not officially supported (users can enable GPU support for tests). GPU processing can accelerate computation by 10-20% compared to CPU only processing with MATCH-3DX, depends from the graphic system.
In general, Inpho version 9 combines both classical photogrammetric processing with new true orthos and photorealistic textured mesh deliverables, all in a single software environment. Photogrammetrists can take advantage of the streamlined workflows and reduced training costs while having the ultimate flexibility to choose the workflow and deliverables best suited to their client's needs. Furthermore, Inpho version 9 offers with the extended multi core support a faster access to photogrammetric results.
The 9.1 release introduces a new workflow for True Ortho Mosaic generation based on MATCH-3DX.
The classic orthophoto generation workflow has been brought to perfection with MATCH-T DSM, DTMaster and OrthoMaster deliver a new level of usability and productivity.

List of Changes
Changes for SATMaster are aligning with changes in the Inpho components associated with satellite processing (ApplicationsMaster, MATCH-AT, MATCH-T DSM, DTMaster Stereo, OrthoMaster, OrthoVista).
Note: Version 9.1 has a new project file version therefore projects generated with the new version 9.1 cannot be opened in previous versions. Projects of earlier versions will be converted into the new format on request. The 8.0.11 patch does not use the updated project file version. If you have on-going projects, Trimble recommends to install the 8.0.11 patch until important projects are finished not to get a mismatch of project file versions.

With version 9.2, the MATCH-AT log file (.html) will automatically be opened with the browser the user defined as the default one.
Improvement 9.2: Updated report file
The report file shows improved statistics, as the number of tie points per image or the differences of automatically measured tie points and back projected adjusted tie points.
Additionally the sorting is now adapted to increasing ID, the IMU residuals show now 4 decimals instead of 3.
Criteria of tie point distributions added to get a clearer report.
For multi-head projects separate graphics are visible for all camera heads.
https://geospatial.trimble.com/products-and-solutions/inpho Page 21
Fix 9.2: “Move to measured point position” in single stereo view
“Move-to-measured point position” did not work properly in single Stereo View. It moved to the calculated position and not to the measured. This is fixed.
New 9.2: Performance, usage of binary XPF file
For new projects, the default format of the .xpf file is text, but can be defined as binary. It enhances the performance with huge projects. For large projects, the binary format saves up to 60% time on open.
The user may change the format in the basic settings dialog in Project Edit (proedit), the point file will be converted as soon as the project is saved in proedit (may be time consuming!)
The file extension remains .xpf for both storage types.
For projects with binary .xpf file, the .xpf file is ignored when opening the project with version 9.1.x.
The internal representation of image coordinates (measured control points and automatically matched points) has changed. The precision of pixel coordinates was chosen to be 1/64th of a pixel which is well below manual measuring precision (about 1/3rd of a pixel) and also below matching precision (1/10th of a pixel). There may however be small rounding errors of about /100th of a pixel when comparing project files written with software version 9.1 vs. 9.2, but these will not influence computational results significantly.
Information 9.2: Tie areas
Re-introduction of the Tie Areas list.
https://geospatial.trimble.com/products-and-solutions/inpho Page 22
Improvement PMT 9.2: Display of predictions for point list

This version supports now image IDs with a length of up to 120 characters in the processing.
Fix 9.1.4: Complement functions (PMT)
Using the functions “Complement by Least-Squares-Matching” and “Complement and Refine by Least-Squares-Matching” does not work as good as in the previous versions. Fewer positions were matched and the matches were not accurate in some images. This is fixed.
Information 9.1.3: Tie Point Extraction for Satellite Projects
To run the Tie Point Extraction for satellite projects successfully it is strongly recommended to first adjust the radiometry of the input images after image overview generation. This will increase the number of extracted tie points and improve the result significantly. The radiometry adjustment can be done with the Radiometrix tool available in the Image Commander.
Hint for Radiometrix: - When the images appear initially black, use the “Run Auto-Adjustment” in the Auto-Gradation tab.
https://geospatial.trimble.com/products-and-solutions/inpho Page 27
- Make sure that all images fit together regarding brightness and contrast. There are several options available to adjust the images (see example below).
Example – before:
Example – after:
Improvement 9.1.3: Improved stamp display in PMT
The following information will be displayed in the new stamp browser: - position of the image measurement (large cross marker, cyan color) - position of the image point prediction (small cross marker, white color) - quality of image matching (center area of cross marker) - status of image matching (green, yellow, red or blue bulb, bottom right corner)
https://geospatial.trimble.com/products-and-solutions/inpho Page 28
Improvement 9.1.3: Increased stability for RPC Refinement
Some changes regarding the RPC Refinement improved the stability of the process.
Fix 9.1.3: The tie point extraction for satellite projects
Tie point generation for satellite projects does not work when selecting default strategy. With version 9.1.3 the “default” strategy is adapted to run the tie point extraction successfully. Recommendation: Use the option “Highest (time consuming)” as the extraction level.
Fix 9.1.3: Application of camera calibration entries in PMT
In case of huge distortion values and extreme principal point displacements, the measurement of (ground control) points were almost impossible or very complicated. The measured position does not coincide with the displayed one. Now the principal point displacement will be taken into account together with the lens distortion correction. The measurement and its displayed position is now identical.
Improvement 9.1.2: Camera with big principal point displacement
The tie point extraction algorithm is adapted so they work also with big principal point offsets. This helps especially for the use of shift cameras.

https://geospatial.trimble.com/products-and-solutions/inpho Page 29
Fix 9.1.2: Multi-Photo Measurement Tool(PMT) - handling of “Save”
Closing the PMT and selecting in the upcoming dialog “Do you want to save current changes?” – Cancel – then returning to the measurement and exiting again was showing the message that the project file is read-only. Then all new modifications were cancelled. This is fixed.
Fix 9.1.2: Tie point extraction crashes
The tie point extraction crashed after level 2 in some cases. This is fixed.
Fix 9.1.2: Z-shift in resulting EO for feet projects
A problem with feet projects, where a constant Z offset in the exterior orientation was introduced, is solved.
Information 9.1.2: Thin out for complete block only
The thin out function can be used only for the complete block and not anymore in sub-blocks. This restriction was necessary to ensure the correct content of the statistic file (.sta).
Information 9.1.2: Multi-head cameras
During the computation of ray intersections all possible model combinations were used which resulted in very high statistical values. Now the computation is limited to stereo pairs from different Stations.

After deleting files there was a crash under certain circumstances when using Undo/Redo function. This is fixed.
Fix 9.1.4: Multiple Load/Unload of TPIX tiles
In case a TPIX tile was loaded/unloaded multiple times and the project was saved in between DTMaster froze and a closing of the program must have been enforced. This is fixed with this version.
Fix 9.1.4: “Evaluate Point Offsets”
It was no more possible to evaluate the point offset of all ground control points of the project. The measurement was possible for one point only all other points were skipped. With version 9.1.4, all ground control points could be evaluated again.
Fix 9.1.3: Reset of active layer
DTMaster did not keep the active layer, but reset it after saving the project. Now the active layer will remain active with saving the DTMaster project.
Fix 9.1.3: Confusing coordinate display for feet projects
Although the project was created in “ft(US) and LAS data were imported in “ft(US), the coordinate display in DTMaster showed metric units. Now the displayed units will be the defined ones and will not be transformed into meters.
https://geospatial.trimble.com/products-and-solutions/inpho Page 39
Fix 9.1.3: Application of camera calibration entries
In case of huge distortion values and extreme principal point displacements, the measurement of points were almost impossible or very complicated. The measured position does not coincide with the displayed one. Now the principal point displacement will be taken into account together with the lens distortion correction. The measurement and its displayed position is now identical.
Fix 9.1.3: Combined export failed
The combined export of DTM and vector data failed. This is fixed.
Improvement 9.1.2: Layer settings

The length of the embankment hatchings has been constrained to be 2 times the distance between the hatch lines. Note that these are not high-quality hatchings, but interpretation aids.
Fix 9.1.2: Locked layer When using a locked layer as active layer and measure lines, the lines are not stored. A message was visible in the output log, but is often overlooked. In the new version the same messages occurs but now there is no line visible when measuring.
Fix 9.1.2: DTMaster runs more stable
To keep the data base (.bgd) stable a message is added that suggests to compress the project after 10 vector files have been removed from the project in one session.
https://geospatial.trimble.com/products-and-solutions/inpho Page 40
Fix 9.1.2: Delete vector data of selected layers in grouped tiles

Ortho-mosaic update for MATCH-3DX True ortho-mosaics directly in DTMaster
DTM update is now also directly available in DTMaster (without opening DTMToolkit)
Handling of data management in Tile Manager (menu: File - Import - Tile Manager…)

New Feature 9.1: Visualization of SGM Metadata (MATCH-3DX)
New visualization of SGM metadata for the corresponding point cloud. This helps to review the results of the SGM process and can indicate problematic areas.
New Feature 9.1: Additional parameters for Best-Fit-Stereo and automatic model change
To improve stereo measurement with high overlap projects, DTMaster is equipped with additional options to allow the selection of preferred stereo models which are not "neighboring" images. Additional parameters for the automatic stereo model change are introduced (see Preferences – Views - Stereo).
Tool options – Best-Fit Stereo

New Feature 9.1: Added columns to the Terrain tab
In the Terrain tab two new columns can be added:
1. NrPL: Number of points (sorting is possible) 2. Type: the type for points and lines are added

Improvement 9.1: Additional Vector File Info for LAS files
The Vector File Info dialog shows additional attributes for LAS files.
Change 9.1: Default setting “Overview window”
The “Overview window” had a very bad influence on the performance of panning and zooming. Therefore by default the display of the “Overview window” is turned off.
Fix 9.1: Export LAZ
The LAS header definition for the Global Encoding is now correct after export.
Fix 9.1: 3D mouse snapping
The problem that the 3D mouse snapping jumps to the previous measured vertex is fixed.
Information 9.1: Change default for loading tiles from TPIX manager
The default for loading tiles from Tile Mange changed to “grouped”. In the Terrain tab the tiles are visible as TPIX file. In case the file name should be displayed the setting “grouped” has to be deactivated in the Tile Manager. If once changed it serves as new default.
OrthoMaster
Change Description
Fix 9.1.4: Whole image as “Area of Interest”
In mountainous areas the resulting ortho photo did not fit to the whole image area because only the 4 corner points are used for footprint computation. Now more points are used so the footprints fit better to the defined whole image.
Improvement 9.1.3: OrthoMaster log file
The log file of OrthoMaster will now show the DTM extents.
Fix 9.1.3: TPIX structure in feet
Importing the Tile Manager file *.TPIX as DTM into OrthoMaster did not show the terrain model at the correct location, because feet units have not been considered. In this version the feet units will be taken into account.
Fix 9.1.3: Crash for large projects with missing aerial links
OrthoMaster crashed if very large projects (thousands of images) missed many image links. OrthoMaster created for each missing image link a warning, causing in a crash of the software. Now OrthoMaster will only show for the first 10 aerial images a warning and will suppress the remaining ones, but summarize how many image links are missing.

Improvement 9.1: Better interface to DTMaster
With the introduction of the Surface Areas OrthoMaster provides now an improved support of the Tile Manager data structure (for DTM). This provides a smoother workflow when coming from other modules (MATCH-3DX, Match-T DSM and DTMaster Stereo).
Fix 9.1: Corrupt XML file
Saving the project caused several times that the XML file gets corrupt. This is fixed.
OrthoVista
Change Description
Improvement 9.2: Performance
The loading of large projects works now faster.
Fix 9.2: Blending and ghost effects
Rarely OrthoVista generated some ghost effects. The algorithm for mosaicking was changed to avoid such effects.
Fix 9.1.4: Seamline in high overlapping area
There was an issue for specific projects with high overlapping orthophotos. The generated seamlines mainly consisted of straight and duplicate lines. The Feature Detection algorithm got reviewed and the issue is fixed now.
Fix 9.1.2: Error message “seam line definition not available”
The seam line definitions (cld) created with version 8 could not be read in version 9. With version 9.1.2 this problem is solved and cld files created in older versions will be recognized.

Change 9.1: Prefer non-JPG images
In case of multiple image formats non-JPG will be preferred, e.g. if TIF and JPG images are available the TIF images will be loaded.
Fix 9.1: Rotated SHP tiles resulted in additional background color
For non-rectangular SHP tile definitions, a max. bounding box will be created. Using the option to rotate the project, it seemed that the original bounding box of the tile definition was be used and a second bounding box was calculated instead of the initial SHP polygon. This resulted in additional background areas. This works now correctly.
Fix 9.1: Empty areas along map edge
Sanity checks for inclusion/exclusion area polygons are added to avoid empty maps in case the area of interest runs along the map edges.
Fix 9.1: SHP tile extent not correct
It could happen that the calculation of the cutout region created a half pixel offset which leaded to random borders with wrong image content. This is fixed.
Fix 9.1: Log file entry for valid RGN
Version 9.1 shows now the correct percentage for the region pixel count.
LPMaster
Change Description
Fix 9.1.3: Intensity calculation not selectable
An error in the basic configuration of the intensity setting was fixed. The intensity setting "amplitude" in the parameter setting couldn't set although this mode was selected. The "normalized" mode (fixed or dynamic) was always activated. This resulted in an oversized spread of the intensity calculation, if the measured distance was greater than ~2000m.
Fix 9.1.2: LPMaster project with MATCH-AT Lite license
A problem with opening a project created with LPMaster when using a MATCH-AT Lite license was solved.
