To many of them the visit toGoa was very sentimental as theirforefathers, forsaking everythingincluding their home and hearth had toleave Goa some 450 years ago beingunable to bear the atrocities committedin the name of religion by the then rulersof Goa, the Portuguese.

It was indeed a very rare occasion as two ofthe Saraswat Guru Maharajas, H.H.ShrimatSadyojat Shankarashram Swamiji of ShriChitrapur Math and H.H.Shrimat ShivanandaSaraswati Swamiji of Shri Kaivalya Math, in thepresence of various dignitaries to mark theauspicious beginning of the Convention, lighteda huge lamp, to the accompaniment of vedicchants by the priests and vedic scholars, on thecolourful dais fully decorated.

In his welcome address, Dr.Ajit Gunjikar,President, AISCO stated that we the Saraswatsonce lived on the banks of the ancient RiverSaraswati, migrated to other parts of the countryand after a long time we speak differentlanguages but that should not divide us and our

origin should bond us together as Indiansand at the same time Saraswats withglorious past of which we can alwaystake pride and todays huge gathering hereunder the banner of Saraswats amplyproves it with the slogan of “JoiningHands in Harmony”

In their benedictory blessings,H.H.Shrimat Shivanand Saraswati Swamiji ofShri Kavlemath was pleased to declare that itwas really a great occasion of joining hands inharmony to interact, share and help each otherto grow together as one community, that isSaraswats. H.H.Shrimat SadyojatShankarashram Swamiji of Shri.Chitrapur Mathafter recalling that the first Vishwa SaraswatSammelan was held in Mangalore in 1999 andthat the very thought of joining hands in harmony

Then a two minute silent prayerwas offered in memory of H.H.ShrimatSudhindraTirth Swamiji of Shri Kashi MathSamsthan, who became immortal on 17th Jan.,2016.It was also recalled that Shri Swamiji was

a pillar of strength to the AISCO from the dayone.

Dr.Ramdas M.Pai, President & Chancellor,Manipal University, ManipalThe demise of His Holiness Shri Sudhindra TirthSwamiji is an irreparable loss to the Konkani Samajof which he was the undisputed religious andspiritual head. With his erudition andunquestionable knowledge of the Vedas and thescriptures, he proved himself to be the GuidingStar of the Konkani community to tread in thespiritul path. He commanded great respect andveneration because of his simplicity and amiablemanners. His discourses and spiritual talks werefull of quotes from the Bhagavadgita which couldinstill profound attachment to the tenets of theHindu religion He has lived a life of fulfilment ofhis vision in ensuring a philosophical atmosphereof cordiality and unity for the overall advancementof virtuous human values. We deeply mourn hisloss.

Shri Payyanur Ramesh Pai, President,Konkani Sahitya Akademi, Kochi, Kerala

Srimad Sudhindra Tirth Swamiji wasSaint without a parallel. He was an elavated souland proved to be so by attaining MahaSamadhi inUttarayana period at Haridwar, a wish that hecherished for sometime. His TwelveCommandments are worth emulating for one andall, for one’s purification and elecation. All the time,His Prayer was only for the upliftment, unity anddevelopment of our Samaj. Fortunate are we tohave lived during His lifetime witnessing the greatpersonality and the onus is on us not to deviatefrom the path that He guided to tread.

Homage toH.H.SHRIMAT SUDHINDRA TIRTHSWAMIJI OF SHRI KASHI MATH

Mrs.Gita Pai, Noted Social Worker, MumbaiIn my simple thinking SmdSudhindraTirth Swamijiof Sree Kashi Mutt is one of the greatest seers ofthe Century for many reasons. Swamiji’s nearlyeight decades of Sanyasa is unparalleled in thehistory of GowdSaraswat Brahman Samaj.Swamiji’s calm and serene face itself communicatesgoodness to all.Swamiji’s memory was fantasticand indeed a God given gift.

Swamiji was traditional as well as believedin bringing changes in the society as it was theneed of the hour. The present controversy aboutwomen’s status in temples is a good example whereour Learned Swamiji would have handled thesituation in an organized way. Traditionally Swamijiwas not supposed to meet widows for anydiscussion nor bless them. A few ladies in thesociety sent a request letter to Swamiji to changethis situation, so that their children could followtheir mothers in meeting Swamiji. Swamiji’sapproach to this was highly democratic. Swamijiwanted a feedback from the society, rather thanpushing Swamiji’s opinion, which turned out to bethe excellent response. Letters were sent to GSBInstitutions in Mumbai, Mangalore Cochin, Mulkietc, where many of GSB people reside, and basedon this response, Swamiji graciously received therequests in Swamiji’s inimitable style, decided tomove with the times and granted blessings to thewidows. May 26th 2006, should be written in GoldenWords and considered a landmark day which wasachieved with kindness and grace of His Holinesswith Swamiji’s progressive views and leadershipof Samaj Bandhavas.

Srimad Sudhindra Tirth Swamiji, ourRevered Dharma Guru, has been a Guide,Philosopher and Visionary who guided us throughoutHis Sannyasa life to tread the path of righteousness.Compassion, generosity and farsightedness werethe hallmarks of Swamiji’s personality which invitedthe steady devotion of His disciples. Swamiji was averitable living example of the ideal sannyasa withsupreme renunciation, rare saintliness, deep wisdomand divine dignity. To Swamiji, Adhyatmic wealthalone is the real wealth. The essence of all Hispravachanas is : “Man should strive for earning‘Devakripa’ (God’s Grace) which would then takecare of the rest.” Swamiji’s austerity shone withthe added lustre of brilliant intellect and a masteryof Sanskrit and Vedic lore. Swamiji was a Bhakti-Jnani who never divorced Bhakti from Jnana.Though firm in tradition, Swamiji’s reformist andprogressive bent of mind shone forth in every questHe has pursued. It is a great fortune for the G.S.B.community to have got such a Sadguru as SrimadSudhindra Tirth Swamiji who was always concernedabout the happiness and prosperity of the disciples.

Swamiji’s Divine Grace has always been aguiding light for all the disciples and it will evercontinue to guide us.

Prof. K. R. Prabhu Bangalore. VishudhatmaVishodhanaha (Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam)

His Holiness parama poojyavrindavananthargata Sri Sri Sudhindra Tirth Swamijiwho has attained the Maha Samadhi has left amemorable history behind him for the centuries tocome for the shishya varga of not only togoudsaraswat samaj but also for others.

Sage Vyasa Maharshi, the author of SriVishnu Saharsa Namam describes the “thepavitratma/parishudhatma known as “vishudhatma.”Swamiji in his long life of sanyas and niyat hasattained the level of “vishudhatma” the shishya vargatouching (pada sparsha) his holy feet become“vishodhanaha” – become holy (pavitratma). Thisis the tradition (parampara) from the first yati H.H.Yaadavendra Teertha Swamy.

His smiling face, soft communication, blessings followed since 1944 has made mirclesamong the shishya varga reaching the highest levelof “daivatwa” (pujaneeya)

The community is rich to have successivegurus having had the “wealth of punya phala” leftto the community which works as a “vajrakavacham”. Let this parampara continue from H.H.Samyameendra tirtha swamiji

Smt.Sudha G.Pai, President, GSB Sabha,Matunga, MumbaiShrimad Sudhindra Tirtha Swamiji was thetwentieth head of Shri Kashi MathaSamsthan. From an early age he had showninclination towards a spiritual life. Guru-SwamiShrimat Sukrateendra Tirth on May 24th 1944initiated him into Sanyasa in the divine presenceof Lord Venkataramana, Lord Narasimha andLord Bindu Madhava in Mulki.Shri Swamijimerged with GOD around 1:10 AM on SundayJanuary 17th 2016. His physical health wasdeteriorating over the past few months. May behe was waiting for Uttarayan to start, to mergewith GOD. He will always be remembered by usand we are quite certain that he will guide usthrough his spiritual prowess in our future also.Inhis discourses he always told us about theimportance of ‘preethi’ in human life. He alwayssaid ‘nishkalanka preethi’ to Lord would bring inbountiful joy in human life. The ‘preethi’ towardsLord should be unconditional like that between amother and her child beyond all barriers. Weshould continue to hold the feet of Lord firmlywithout any doubts in our mind both during happyand testing times of our life like an innocent childrunning towards its mother with tears in eyes evenafter being reprimanded by her. Our faith anddevotion to Lord must be single minded only thenhe will hold our hand and lead us on His path.Only those who are blessed by Lord can attain‘santhrupthi’in their lives and rise above theworldy attraction. Life can become fuller only bydeveloping compassion towards people around usand devotion to Lord.We all pray at the Lotus Feetof our Gurudev to continue to guide us—themortals, on the enlightened path.

SAMYUKTA SARASWAT March 201610

Shri V.M. Pai, Bangalore With Srimad SudhindraTirtha attaining ‘mukthi,on Sunday the 17th Jan.,2016, an epoch making era not only in Kashi Mathhistory but also the GSB community and theSanathan Samaj in the country, has come to anend. During the 72 years of his sayasi life from1944 to 2016 and during his reign of 67 years asMathadhipahi from 1949 to 2016, he providedstrong and decisive spiritual and dharmic leadershipto the community spanning 5 generations. Thecountry in this period witnessed tumultuouschanges in political, social and economic spheresduring this period. Swamiji made particularlystrong impact on the young generation. Heprovided a powerful Northern orientation to thesamaj indicative of our roots as Northern VedicBrahmins through building historic monumentaltemples to Vedavyasa in Haridwar and Kalpi. Byextending branches of Kashi Math fromRameshwaram in the South to Badrinath in theNorth and again Dahisar in the West to Calcutta inthe East, he made possible the integration of GSBSamaj all over India. His stress on leading simplespiritual life as well as ‘daana’ and scrifice andshowing by example what these words mean is agreat inspiration to the community. He tackled theserious crisis of the erstwhile shishya with greatpatience and compassion and acumen andultimately provided a worthy successor in ShrimadSamyameendra Tirth Swamiji, the 21st Guru whois coronated to the illustrious ‘peetha’ on 28th Jan.,2016 at Haridwar. Glory to Shri Hari and Guru!

Shri K. P. Mallya, Retd. Chairman, NetravatiGrameena Bank, MangaloreHis Holiness Shrimat Sudhindra Tirth Swamiji wasalways in the forefront in spreading the values ofSanatana Dharma in our country. He was visitingvarious places especially pilgrimage centres fromRameshwaram in the South to Badrinath in theNorth. Wherever he visited, devotees andfollowers in large number were assembling seekinghis blessings and also to listen to his preachingsand benedictory messages. The most fascinatingaspect of his teachings was they were simple anddown to the earth capable of practicalimplementation. Shri Swamiji was regarded as agreat saint and sage of our times with the following

qualities: Truthfulness, Self-control, Simplicity andFull knowledge and Wisdom of our SacredWritings. At the advanced age of 90 years (1926to 2016) Shri Swamiji attained Moksha on17.1.1926 in Haridwar the place and the shrine heliked the most. Although he is no longer visible toour eyes, he will always live in our heart. Hispreachings and teachings will remain as a sourceof strength in our path of social, spiritual andreligious life.

Shri M.M. Pai, Retired Bank Executive &Author, Bangalore

I was one among those fortunate peoplewho could witness the Deeksha Ceremony ofShri Sadashiva Shenoy, (DOB 31.3.1926) atRiver Shambhavi in the morning and thereafterat Shri Venkatramana Temple, Mulki on 24-5-1944 the auspicious day to become ShrimatSudheendra Tirth Swamiji under his spiritualMaster H.H.Shrimat Sukrateendra Tirth Swamiji. After 5 years Shrimat Sudheendra Thirth Swamijibecame the Chief of Kashimutt Samsthan(Muttadhipathi) after the ‘mukti’ of ShrimatSukratheendra Tirth Swamiji in the year 1949.Shri Swamiji devoted his life for the benefit orservice to G.S.B. community in particular andother people i.e. Humanity, in general. HisHoliness taught us to face difficulties in life byobserving “adhyathma tathwas” (spiritualprinciples) in our day to day life. He loved peopleand was loved and adored by one and all. Swamijimade us understand that ‘Nothing’ in this world, not even a blade of grass can move without thewill of the Almighty. Simplicity and clarity arethe ‘hallmark’ of his “Pravachana” (preachings).Swamiji was a true ‘Sanyasi’. His Holinessattained Samadhi (union with God), through‘Dhyana’ (concentrating mind on God) on 17th

January this year. He is now living in the heartsof Each and Every one of us.

“Living in the hearts of those we leavebehind is not to die.”
