THE International Youth Day (IYD) 2017 kicked off with its call for action through the “Human Peace” sign formation at the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) Campus, La Paz, Iloilo City on Aug. 11, 2017. In recent years, Iloilo has distinguished itself as a powerhouse of innovative fashion design producing an array of talented designers.

Among them is Jun-G Candelario whose ambi-tious and inventive spirit has earned him recogni-tion not only in Iloilo, but also all over the country and abroad.

Candelario was introduced to the fashion world through his elective subject in dress making way back in High School in his native town Lemery. After moving to Iloilo in 2011 to pursue his studies where he graduated his BS degree in Architecture at the University of San Agustin, at 22, he started a new life as fashion designer. Candelario carved himself a budding career by dressing beauty pageant contestants. Re-nowned for his elegant style, Candelario’s designs use rich and luxuriant fabrics to create a clean, classic look that oozes sophistication.

His gorgeous hablon prom dresses have been a new favourite among prom dress shoppers. His award-winning collection of crystal-embellished silk chiffon or hablon pageant gowns have been worn by pageant winners and prom goers alike. Candelario is an accomplished designer of prom

and pageant evening wear worn by beauty queens. Other signa-

ture designs are his ballroom gowns, mermaid prom dresses

adorned with dazzling beaded sequins, delicate lace, or beautiful embroi-dery.

Candelario show extra attention to detail that is exquisite. Nothing short of fabulous, short dresses and ballgowns are of exceptional fabrics like soft organza, delicate lace, flowy chiffon, and smooth satin, hablon, pina and jusi. From vintage elegance to modern trends, Candelario is a designer for all reasons.

Candelario is one of the featured fashion de-signers for Habol Ilonggo, the closing ceremony fashion show for the 10th Fiber Fashion Fair at SM City Iloilo Event Center, 6 p.m. He joins fellow Ilonggo designers John Montinola, Sid-ney Eculla and PJ Arañador in showcasing his collection after the very successful Sidney and Canberra, Australia fashion show last July.

The 10th Fiber Fashion Fair fashion show starts every 6 and 7 p.m. with Habol Miagao-anon by Miagao-LGU and Anyag by Ram Silva on August 21 (Monday); the Iloilo Tourism Officers Association on Spotlight and John P. In Iloilo there are a lot of great passionate profession-als in this field especially in know-how and creativity, and amongst the well-known even beyond our country’s borders is Sidney Eculla.

A proud native of Igbaras, Iloilo, Eculla is famous for creat-ing truly timeless pieces, classic with sophisticated cuts.

His design style is typified by sleek tailoring and modern, elegant silhouettes that blend local traditions with western sensibilities. His pieces exude high-end elegance and always produce work that has a clean, polished finish. His work has become a favourite by the elite society.

sophistication. The latest collection ANYAG for Habol Ilonggo featured during the Philippine Independence Day celebration in Canberra and Sydney, Australia captured the simple patterns in a muted palette on chic silhouettes.

The designer had received glowing praises from respected fashionistas in the industry. His enchanting and fairytale-like creations landed him at the 2017 Miss Universe new Zealand where he was commissioned to dress up all the candidates in evening gowns. He incorporated traditional styles, but at the same time exuded modernity with emphasis on the ladies’ curvaceous hourglass figures.

Already a burgeoning international success, Eculla will present his collections back to the motherland for the closing ceremony fashion show of the 10th Fiber Fashion Fair at 6 p.m. event center of SM City Iloilo. He joins fellow ilonggo designers Jun-G Candelario, Sidney John Montinola and PJ Aranador.

THERE is a new wave of Ilonggo fashion designers who are op-timistic about the future of

Iloilo’s fashion industry--a future they are actively shaping with their designs. The 2017 Fiber Fashion Fair spotlights two up-and-coming fashion designers to watch.

Only 21 years old, Oton-born Jeffy Ticao already has a good list of creden-tials under his belt. A 2016 graduate of Fashion Design and Merchandising at ISAT-University, the designer focused on creating ‘contemporary everyday wear that is made to last’. His intention

is to create ‘a new in-terpretation of minimal chic’ through the use of fine fabrics and gentle embellishment.

He had featured his designs along with his classmates during last year’s Fiber Fash-ion Fair. In light blue hablon, he showcased three fashion pieces that embody subtle so-phistication with natu-ral confidence, wit and spirit.

This year, he goes solo and will work on simple, feminine yet playful silhouettes using hablon in lilac, plum and hot pink for his Garboso show seg-ment on August 23 at SM City Event Center, 7 p.m.

John Pe Larlar, 20, from Lambunao, Iloilo is also a student of Fashion Design and Merchandising at ISAT-University. The designer is in the early stages of his rising local fashion stardom. He is an immediate force to be reckoned with on the local fashion scene.

Larlar’s futuristic black hablon collection featured in last year’s Fiber Fashion Fair examined ideas about masculinity and sexuality and achieved his goal of building an eclectic women’s wear with a global outlook.

His interest in structure and lon-gevity and will feature his elegant, pragmatic and minimalist clothing that will never date for his solo show on August 22, SM City Event Center, 7 pm for Preciosa at the 10th Fiber Fashion Fair. He will showcase his fu-turistically minimalist aesthetic which favour black in sportswear influences and lines that are gender-neutral. Long gone are the fashion stereotypes; his modern aesthetic is elegant, edgy and

Fiber Fashion Fair week celebrates local weaving history and the people

who are making serious moves to promote our local fabrics in the fashion industry. And among those who quickly worked his way up through the ranks to becoming one of Iloilo’s best is John Montinola.

A mainstay of the an-nual Fiber Fashion Fair since 2008, Montinola has estab-lished himself as an eclectic fashion designer. It was his love for everything beauti-ful that steered him into fashion. He loves design-ing and creating everything from accessories to ornate evening dresses. Most of-ten, the designer utilize the material in a revolutionary manner, creating unusual and unexpected silhouettes with a futuristic dimension.

His own love of everything classic, fine arts and the glam-our of the movies led him into the realms of couture, examin-ing the beauty of design and the multitude of material available with which to bring those de-signs to life.

At times, his style is wonder-fully simple with notes of nostal-gia, demonstrating the exquisite beauty of detailing. Victorian style mutton-chop sleeves on dramatic jackets and beaded jersey camisoles are offered in a range of neutrals, with the oc-casional flash of red and maroon to demonstrate the diversity of his design technique.

His latest collection present-

ed at the Habol Ilonggo fashion show in Canberra and Sydney, Australia last July showed a sense of cross-cultural influ-ences of traditional designs and has a modern outlook on Ilonggo heritage.

Montinola will present his hablon and jusi collections in Midnight Voyages for Habol Ilonggo, the closing ceremony fashion show for the 10th Fiber Fashion Fair at SM City Event Center, 6 p.m. He joins fel-low ilonggo designers Jun-G Candelario, Sid-ney Eculla and PJ Arañador.
