On Saturday 18 September 2021 several pole walkers made the most of the lovely spring weather with a walk along the foreshore and then enjoyed a morning coffee afterwards.

The Pole Walking group meets every Wednesday at 8.30am at the QEII Seniors & Community Centre. Come along and give pole walking a try, it is a great exercise for stability, core strength and just general wellbeing, not forgetting the social aspect of the group.

Paul Walsh, P.S.C. President, opened the September meeting (2/9/21 ) and welcomed the 39 members present then handed over to Secretary, Pauline Brockwell to read the committee meeting and also August lunch meeting minutes. Lyn Walsh brought us up to speed with the club’s finances. All is well.Elaine Beard won the door prize and Gail De Lacy won the $25 on the money card. It has been decided that the $50 card will not be on offer for a couple of months as sales of that one slowed up the previous month. SO people - if you want the $2 /$50 to be kept as a regular prize it will have to be supported otherwise it’s not viable. Hokay?Pat Parker was a lucky little birthday girl and took off a few prizes on the strength of it. CONGRATULATIONS were offered to Pauline and Terry Brennan on 58 years of marriage.Pat Parker gave a run-down on the November Perth trip and outlined a change regarding the previously planned boat cruise which has now been booked with a different company, for a

different river, different boat, different time of day-----but hey—everything else is the same! We were informed that we will be responsible for our own mobility, so no slips and falls are allowed! Hope that doesn’t mean we have to pass a SAS fitness test first.Fred from CGG was on hand to give us the details of the new recycling shop at the tip. Now keep in mind that we must not call it the “Tip Shop” anymore or we will be fined $1. It has undergone a transformation and is painted very nicely and has an appropriate name – The Bowerbird. They are looking for donations of good quality items for sale. All electrics will be tested before sale. They will not take mattresses, paints, bedding, prams, helmets or clothes and are working in conjunction with St. Vinnies, Red Cross, and Midwest Disaster Relief. It’s also planned to be able to offer plants, mulch, seedlings, compost etc in the future. EFTPOS is available and they are open in Landfill Way, 9am - 3pm, every day except Tuesdays. This project has been undertaken because

of the huge expense of the City having to excavate more holes to the tune of $1.5 million each. Large items can be picked up if you can’t deliver and smaller articles may be left at QE2. Centre.Hope to see lots of members at our 7 October meeting. We only have 2 more trading table days left now as there won’t be one in December

so if you have anything to off-load it’s a good time to have a rummage around and drag it out for us. Stay well and keep smiling!

SAG Pairs Competition 3rd Place - Rob & Tina

A Monday afternoon Bowls Pairs competition was played over several weeks.1st Group Winners were Janet Rodan and Lina Mittoni who received $50 each. 2nd Place was Rob and Tina Lucas and 3rd Place Cheryl Samborski and Peter Clift.2nd Group Winners were Val Dunn and Dennis Sands who received $50 each.2nd Place was Di Keighran and Elle Henderson and 3rd Place Steve Quince and Leila Green.Grand Final Winners were Di Keighran and Elle Henderson who received $50 prize money each. 2nd Place was Rob and Tina Lucas and 3rd Place Steve Quince and Leila Green. The MONTHLY LUNCH MEETING was held on Tuesday 14th September and was opened by President Trevor Hansen and attended by 36 members. Card raffle winners were Lyn Blackmore and Mary French. Unfortunately, the Guest Speaker was unable to attend but we are hoping that she will be able to come in the near future. The President asked members to think about joining the Committee next year as a few have indicated that they will not be continuing. Everyone enjoyed a really yummy lunch of homemade beef lasagne, chips and salad followed by Vanilla Slice (also homemade) with fresh fruit and ice cream. These lunches are not only delicious but are so reasonably priced at only $10. The committee also provides a free morning tea at 10am. Thanks to the little band of helpers who set up and clear up at these events. You are appreciated. Please Note: New members get a free day at S.A.G. activities (Bowls, Table Tennis, Darts and Cards) when they sign up and also a free lunch when they attend their first lunch meeting.

The Bathtub TestIt doesn’t hurt to take a hard look at yourself from time to time, and this should help get you started. During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director what the criterion was which defined whether or not a patient should be institutionalised.

“Well,” said the Director, “we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub.”

“Oh, I understand,” said the visitor.

“A normal person would use the bucket because it’s bigger than the spoon or the teacup.”

Mini Lemon CheesecakesMakes 10 ● Prep 5 minutes ● Cook 3 hoursIngredients• 250g cream cheese (softened)• 280g Lemon Butter (you can purchase prepared or make

yourself)• 200g Butternut Snap biscuits• 250g fresh strawberries (halved)Method1. Line 10 holes of a muffin tray with paper shells. Place a

Butternut Snap biscuit, flat-side up, into each.2. In a large bowl, using an electric beater beat cream

cheese and lemon butter until smooth and velvety. Spoon the mixture evenly across the 10 biscuits.

3. Freeze for at least 3 to 4 hours. To serve, remove the paper shell and garnish each cheesecake with strawberries.

People attending the clinic are seen by Exercise Physiology students supervised by qualified an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.

We can offer services for a range of conditions including but not limited to:

• Arthritis • Osteoperosis • Osteopenia • Cancer • Cardiovascular Conditions (e.g. high blood pressure)

• Diabetes • Mental Health conditions (e.g. depression)

All students provide assessments and an exercise program designed to increase function, increase strength and improve health.

Clients will also receive a home program to enable them to maintain their progress.

What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP)?

AEPs are university qualified allied health professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for people with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities.
