Sheboygan Area - SHRM Letter from the President Inside this issue: Introduction of the Board of Directors. • Committee Summary Upcoming events and programs Picture page This time of year finds many of us trying to remember that old saying regarding something about “Falling Ahead or Springing Behind.” Or now that I think of it, it’s “Spring Forward, Fall Back!” Well hopefully you have all adjusted to the annual movement out of Daylight Savings Time by the time you read this newsletter. Regardless of the time, I can assure you that Sheboygan Area SHRM is not falling back…we are moving FORWARD this fall with a variety of changes and exciting programs. As many of you may recall, we have changed our bylaws to reflect a new fiscal year. We are joining both the National SHRM and the WI SHRM organizations and the vast majority of local chapters in their fiscal years. The majority of our local members voted in the affirmative for this change – Thank You! As for the programs, we have started the year off with two wonderful programs. Victor Schuller helped us to better understand our “Reptile Brains” and the fact that evolution hasn’t necessarily meant that we don’t on occasion use our more Neanderthal reactions towards others. And then in October, Julie Kowalski addressed the issues surrounding Accountability and how we sometimes need to hold individuals accountable, even when they don’t report to us… In future months, we have Nancy Conway from SHRM, State Senator Joe Liebham, a presentation on Social Media and the Law, etc. Great topics and presenters that are timely, relevant, and a value for all of our members. Speaking of value, we are working on a way for us to get our programs out to more members this next year. We have made a decision to have more consistency in our programs – namely, we will conduct our programs at breakfast time each month and those meetings will be help at either Blackwolf Run OR the Inn on Woodlake. Now for some members, that makes it more difficult to attend the meetings – here is where the change comes. We are investigating the potential for SA SHRM to video tape the programs and then deliver them to our members via a YouTube channel or other media…we will continue to think of ways to make your membership in this great local chapter more useful and valuable. I look forward to seeing you at a meeting someday soon! Doug

Sheboygan Area - SHRM

Letter from the President

Inside this issue:

• Introduction of the

Board of Directors.

• Committee Summary

• Upcoming events and

programs

• Picture page

This time of year finds many of us trying to remember that old saying

regarding something about “Falling Ahead or Springing Behind.” Or

now that I think of it, it’s “Spring Forward, Fall Back!” Well hopefully

you have all adjusted to the annual movement out of Daylight

Savings Time by the time you read this newsletter. Regardless of the

time, I can assure you that Sheboygan Area SHRM is not falling

back…we are moving FORWARD this fall with a variety of changes

and exciting programs.

As many of you may recall, we have changed our bylaws to reflect

a new fiscal year. We are joining both the National SHRM and the

WI SHRM organizations and the vast majority of local chapters in their

fiscal years. The majority of our local members voted in the

affirmative for this change – Thank You!

As for the programs, we have started the year off with two wonderful

programs. Victor Schuller helped us to better understand our

“Reptile Brains” and the fact that evolution hasn’t necessarily meant

that we don’t on occasion use our more Neanderthal reactions

towards others. And then in October, Julie Kowalski addressed the

issues surrounding Accountability and how we sometimes need to

hold individuals accountable, even when they don’t report to us…

In future months, we have Nancy Conway from SHRM, State Senator

Joe Liebham, a presentation on Social Media and the Law, etc.

Great topics and presenters that are timely, relevant, and a value

for all of our members. Speaking of value, we are working on a way

for us to get our programs out to more members this next year. We

have made a decision to have more consistency in our programs –

namely, we will conduct our programs at breakfast time each

month and those meetings will be help at either Blackwolf Run OR

the Inn on Woodlake.

Now for some members, that makes it more difficult to attend the

meetings – here is where the change comes. We are investigating

the potential for SA SHRM to video tape the programs and then

deliver them to our members via a YouTube channel or other

media…we will continue to think of ways to make your membership

in this great local chapter more useful and valuable. I look forward

to seeing you at a meeting someday soon!

Are you interested in being more involved in a SA-SHRM Committee? Here is a brief Profile of a few of our Committees.

Survey Committee This committee works to survey the Chapter member’s information needs and

compiles the collected data into relevant and usable information, which is

distributed to current members.

Professional Development Chaired by DiAnne Kober This committee works toward a net increase in the number of Chapter

members certified as PHR or SPHR. Additionally, the committee works to

promote the advantage and value of human resource certification and

recertification to Chapter members. Consider joining this committee to

promote the profession.

Membership Committee Chaired by Deborah Morgan This committee works to solicit new Chapter memberships through Chapter

mailings and networking. It has been another strong year for membership

and still more applications are trickling in. A new member luncheon will be

held on November 27th to welcome the people who have joined Sheboygan

Area SHRM. We look forward to another year of excellent programs and great

networking opportunities. If you have a knack for attracting and welcoming new members consider joining.

Program Committee Chaired by Wendy Haas This committee selects appropriate human resource topics and quality speakers for monthly

membership meetings. The group arranges the program schedule and mailing notices. Communications Committee – Chaired by Travis Knier This committee reports current Chapter, State and National SHRM news to the members through the

local SA SHRM newsletter, websites and local newspapers. The SA-SHRM Newsletter is published two

times a year. If you love to write this might be a great place for you.

Golf Outing Committee – Chaired by Jeff Froh This committee organizes the Chapter’s annual golf outing activities. If you like to golf and can

dedicate time to this one event feel free to contact Jeff.

College Relations/Workforce Readiness Committee – Chaired by Tracy Brinkman The College Relations Committee focuses on the sponsorship of the student chapter of SHRM at LTC,

the college scholarship program, and the internship program for students in member businesses. This

group is also concerned with indentifying the workforce requirements of local companies and the

educational opportunities available to foster those characteristics within the local labor pool. If you

have an interest and can dedicate time to this committee, they would be eager to have you.
