Oriental Herbology Clinical Notes Preface

PrefacePublication of this text is meant to educate doctors and laymen alike on the extraordinary nature of Oriental Herbology. It was originally compiled and written by me during Oriental medical school training at the Community School of Traditional Chinese Healthcare in Miami, Florida, the Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Harbin, People’s Republic of China, the Ryan White Program at South Shore Hospital in Miami Beach and the University of Miami Medical School post-graduate courses in Traditional Oriental Medicine. The notes have been continuously supplemented in clinical practice since 1998.

The most commonly used agents in the clinic are included and accompanied by photography of the live herbs, the live animals or the raw form of the minerals. This should facilitate identification in the field and provide guidance for their appropriate collection and preparation anywhere. Some of the photography was taken by me at the herbarium of the First Hospital of Heilongjiang University. Other photographs have been obtained from the internet, digitally processed for clarity and consistence, and their source clearly referenced whenever possible.

Oriental Herbology Clinical Notes Acknowledments

AcknowledgementsI'd like to gratefully acknowledge my patients over the years for providing rich feedback on the use and effectiveness of Oriental herbs.

My thanks to my friend and teacher, Fu Di, MD, for his comprehensive lecture series on herbology and for the thorough clinical training I received with his direct supervision at South Shore Hospital's Ryan White program. My thanks also to the staff of the Community School of Traditional Chinese Medicine for making these teachings available.

Special thanks also to the curator of the herbarium of the First Hospital of the Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He was very helpful during photography of the herbs, clarifying the herbs' nomenclature and preparation. Here's a picture of him during one of the sessions:
