Share Your Blessings

As Canadians, we are fortunate to live in a country where people can practice their faith without fear of persecution. It is not like this in every country. In some places, people are threatened with physical harm on the basis of their religious beliefs. In 2009, Cardinal Collins established the Office for Refugees to welcome families to Canada who are fleeing difficult situations in their homeland. Many parishes in the archdiocese have sponsored these families and welcomed them to their new home. Through ShareLife, we are supporting the work of the Office for Refugees. In 2019, 528 people were welcomed to Canada and 532 resettlement cases were initiated.

PAG For ShareLife Monthly PAG is a simplified way of contributing to ShareLife over the course of a year. Please contact the parish office via phone or email to make a contribution / information on how you can contribute or email the diocese at [email protected] or call 416-934-3411. Thank you supporting ShareLife!

Pastor’s Message: To Our Graduates

Dear Graduates, It is paradoxical that in the time of greatest “communication” mode and power; with Facebook registering 1.5 billion likes and dislikes a day, beside all other communication ways, we feel

more isolated than ever before. But this will pass too. You will remember that you graduated in a unique time. You are unique! So, I would like to say that Graduation is about three things. Time, Talents and Friends! You should remember Time, from Kindergarten till now. As the Bible says, “There is a time for everything under heaven: a time for planting, a time for laughing, a time for growing, a time for speaking, a time for being.” You should carry your memories, special moments with you and treasure them all. The second is Talents. The whole process of your education is to develop talents. It is all about gifts and maturing. It is all about accomplishments and it is about your hard work that will be a steppingstone for the next phase of your life. Third and final, it is about Friends. Treasure your friends and remember all the people who have touched your life. They are not just your classmates, but they are also your teachers and parents who shaped you and made you who you are. Relationships matter too! Keep the faith. Cling to something that has deep roots. Do not be afraid to say a prayer, to claim values and beliefs. As we wish you the best, I conclude with Robert Hastings words: “Stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, climb more mountains, eat more ice-cream, go barefoot more often, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets.” It is all good. But be aware that you must make choices as Robert Frost said, “There are two roads in the wood and as there I stood, I took one less travelled by.” Congratulations and may you make good choices that will make all the difference.

God bless you always! Msgr. Vid Vlasic Pastor- St Justin Martyr Parish

Re-opening Of Church: Message from Cardinal Collins In order to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus almost three months ago I made the difficult but necessary decision to suspend all public celebrations of the Mass and eventually to close the Catholic churches and chapels within the Archdiocese of Toronto. In doing so we strove to be faithful to the call of God for faith, charity and justice as well as the defence of the sanctity of human life. I am grateful to all of you, clergy and laity, whose faith and patience have sustained this effort. Although the pandemic continues and all public health and safety precautions must still be followed, the Archdiocese is now preparing for a partial or gradual re-opening of the churches. This next phase is undertaken in the fidelity to the call of God whose first commandment is to worship Him and the mandate of Jesus Christ “to do this in memory of me”. Based upon an extensive report of a committee of the Bishops of Ontario assisted by experts in liturgical, public health and legal fields each diocese in Ontario is assuming the responsibility for re-opening their parishes for Mass and the sacraments. I am authorizing these norms as the guidelines for the Archdiocese of Toronto. Recognizing the very basic commandment of love of neighbour, we have a responsibility to care for one another in the re-opening. Thus, the procedures for and manner of the celebration of Mass and the sacraments are to be very different from the situation that we have known. I ask for your full co-operation and patience as we do our very best to welcome back the parishioners, even in limited numbers. In the weeks ahead our motivation must remain the Lord’s desire that, even while the COVID-19 emergency remains real, “the source and summit of the Christian life” is to be celebrated with His people. Trusting in Him will sustain us in this next phase of the Archdiocesan response to the present health emergency. May we continue to pray for the sick and for those caring for them and those who have died during this pandemic.

Welcome Back to Daily Mass!

We will celebrate our first mass on Wednesday June 17th at 7pm. We have introduced a reservation system to comply with the seating restrictions. Visit our website www.stjustin.ca for details on reservations or watch out for our emails to registered parishioners.

Your patience and cooperation are much appreciated as we work together to keep St Justin’s a safer place.

See you all soon! Stay safe.

Adoration on Sunday June 14 To celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi on Sunday, June 14 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Church will be open for prayer. There will be seating restrictions (first come, first seated). You will be required to sign up at the entrance. If we have more visitors at a time, you will be asked to wait. We request your full co-operation on

this regard. Thank you for supporting our efforts in keeping St Justin’s a safe place. Statement from Cardinal Thomas Collins Archbishop of Toronto Re: Racism, Dialogue & Respect – June 5, 2020 We have witnessed shocking events, most recently the violent death of George Floyd, that have prompted protests and important conversations both in the United States and our own country, on the topic of racism and violence. In our own archdiocese, there have been peaceful demonstrations and dialogue based on our local reality and concern for one another. It is important that, in these conversations, we authentically listen to the plight of those who have been victims of racism, intolerance and violence. I firmly believe on these occasions that we should all listen more than we speak, in order to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the suffering of others. While we enjoy one of the most ethnically diverse faith communities in North America, we must continue to remind ourselves daily to follow the example of Jesus to love one another as ourselves without exception. Racism knows no boundaries and it remains a present-day challenge that must not be ignored. We join together in prayer for victims of racism, violence and intolerance and for those who are working peacefully to effect change. May each one of us reflect the loving face of Jesus to all those whom we encounter on the journey.

“Love your neighbour”

June Is Senior’s Month Let’s Celebrate Our Seniors! Most loving God, We thank you for the gift of years granted in our time to so many men and women in the second half of life. We thank you for their presence in our parish community, for their life experience, their courage and wisdom, their witness of faith. We ask your blessing upon them as they live the many transitions that are part of maturing years. Be with them, keep them in your care, grant them peace and enable them to become beacons of hope in our world.”
